Drew Carey Is Bob Barker's Replacement
Jul 23, 4:29 PM EST
The Associated Press
NEW YORK -- Genial comic Drew Carey was tapped Monday to replace silver-haired legend Bob Barker on the CBS daytime game show "The Price is Right."
Carey confirmed the deal during a taping of the "Late Show" with David Letterman.
The selection attracted more attention than usual for a daytime show because of the prospect of replacing Barker, 83. Barker retired after 35 years in the job last month following taping of his 6,586th episode.
The opening attracted widespread interest, including from comic Rosie O'Donnell after she left "The View."
Carey, 49, spent a decade on his own ABC sitcom and also was host of the game show "Whose Line is It Anyway?," a comic improvisational show.
He will also be host of a new CBS prime-time game show, "The Power of 10," that will air first next month. He told The Associated Press that CBS officials first contacted him about "The Price is Right" immediately after he completed a pilot of the other game show this spring.

I'm not a Drew Carey fan, so, this news doesn't excite me. It's not that I don't like him, just that I've never found him to hold any interest for me. I honestly don't care to watch "The Price Is Right" with him as the host. Oh, well.

Well, this combines Drew's two favorite things, audience banter and leggy attractive women. So good for him, I guess. I think he's pretty much set for life after this.

I can think of one that might be a worse choice... Rosie O'Donnel...Anthony wrote:This is horrible news! Drew Carey is an awful choice to replace Bob Barker!! Guess I won't be watching the show anymore.
Anyway At least its not Ross the Intern.... or else we might be seeing Male Models
I will reserve my judgement on Drew Carey as the host of The Price is Right until I see it... Who know's perhaps Drew Carey will turn out to be a great host of this show... then again the apocolypse of the Earth on December 21st 2012 might be more realistic than that..

I do think his voice isn't right for the show, but he really isn't such a bad choice. They could have done a lot worse (Rosie O'Donnell is not a bad choice, and unless you let politics get in the way of everything, you wouldn't think so). It's just going to be hard to see anyone take over that role. I think most people would even begrudge Dick Clark initially (though he's just as old, nearly). Nobody's going to be good enough. I say we give him a chance (as long as he doesn't have that awful bleeched hair).

I have to say I was a little surprised to hear about this. With his new show "The Power of 10" coming to CBS this fall, and now hosting "The Price is Right" he is going to have a lot on his plate. I'm not sure if he is the best new host they could have picked, but CBS could have done worse.

Who's line ended years ago from what I have seen. "New episodes" are just ones that were taped but had not yet aired.jennydumas wrote: But what about Who's Line is it Anyway? Is he not doing that show anymore?[sorry if I'm not up to date with Who's Line etc]
Back on subject I think that he will do a great job and I’m sick of Drew being ragged on. This man has gone through so much in his life that these should be the years where everyone sees how good he is in whatever craft be it acting, hosting, writing or stand up. He knew Rodney Dangerfield but that does not mean that he deserves to get no respect!

I'm a fan of Drew Carey's, so I'm happy to see him get a major gig like this. I love "The Price is Right" but never liked Bob Barker, so I think I'll like this even more. My only concern is that the role will be too limiting for Drew. Unless the show is revamped a little to make room for a more comedic tone, then Carey is going to have to hold back on his comic tendencies in order to be "host". It will be interesting to see just how much of a "funny man" Carey gets to be. Regardless, I'm sure I'll still enjoy watching TPIR when I get the chance. I just hope this doesn't keep Drew Carey from getting to do other things in the future.

Hey, now. Calm down. I'm not ragging on him. I'm just not a fan. I don't dislike him, but, I do not find him interesting. It's alright if people do not like Drew Carey. That doesn't mean they are ragging on him. I don't think anyone here has shown any disrespect towards him.JiminyCrick91 wrote: Back on subject I think that he will do a great job and I’m sick of Drew being ragged on. Apparently I'm alone in this opinion, but I always thought he was very condescending to all of the contestants. He just always seemed like a jerk to me and I didn't think he was all that entertaining. I don't want to make anyone mad, though, as I know a lot of people like Bob Barker. I admit to having a certain fondness for him anyways, just having watched him so much on "The Price Is Right" all my life.Lazario wrote:Why not?AwallaceUNC wrote:I love "The Price is Right" but never liked Bob Barker
Rod Roddy, on the other hand, was awesome! I think he was a much greater loss to the show.
