Complete Series Sets
Now, here's a real treat for people. The definitive Sherlock Holmes, from the definitive actor.
Sherlock Holmes
I regret getting my old UK 23 disc Cinema Club pack now. Since it was released, there's certainly been better releases on both sides of the Atlantic.

You're really getting annoying.Lazario wrote:Sorry James, but I have the right to say what I want to say about this show. And I will.
Besides, I already clearly stated: we all hear things we don't want to hear. It's a fact of life. And I've heard enough pro-Gilmore Girls stuff on the board. I didn't like it, but I put up with it. Now I've had enough.
Since your advice was completely disrespectful, I'll offer something a little more constructive: I think the best solution to this is if you post some of your wonderful Gilmore Girls stories in a pro-Gilmore Girls thread (one of the many headache-inducing ones already here). I promise you that I won't go into that thread and sabotage it.
However, you can't control my actions in this thread. And it's wrong of you to think you can. Just because you and your friends want to say 'majority wins' doesn't fly in my book. You don't want to read it, take a walk out of this topic.
Okay?
You can say "Well in my own opinion, I dislike this show." Instead of saying "This show sucks."
And it's not that the "majority" wins, it's that you are pissing people off whenever they say "I think it's a great show" and you start saying "No, it sucks."
Just leave it at that.
We would completely respect your opinion when you say you like this show or that. But if you dislike a show, don't be so pushy about it. Just because someone else likes what you don't like, doesn't mean you can tell them that what they like sucks.

Jenny, don't tell me that I annoy you. Because I don't care. Why should I? I have already clearly explained that a lot of things annoy a lot of people. It doesn't mean they're going to go away.
People listen up: you've heard me loud and clear. I'm not going to stop saying negative things about The Gilmore Girls. And I think you should know the reason why: it's because Gilmore Girls is a horrible show and physically hurts the quality of television and makes people collectively dumber.
This is not an opinion. If it were, I wouldn't be expressing it. My opinions are rather insignificant. I have seen enough of this show to know it's terrible and I've seen the people who watch it. They are... well, to put it nicely, they do not care about good TV anyway. So it doesn't really matter what they think.
And the only reason I seem to be "pushy" about this "opinion" of mine is because you won't accept that I'm not going to drop it. Not until you all accept that I have the right to say it. Which you can do by not replying. Don't tell me how annoying I am. That's not going to change anything.

Are you that ignorant?
I mean seriously, it's not a fact that this show is horrible. It's an opinion if you dislike it!
If it was a fact then no one would like it!
You have to be dumb to not know that!
And go ahead and say whatever you want after this.
I am out of this thread.
Good luck finding anyone else who cares what you say!

I'm not ignorant at all. And I don't think you are, either. Which is why you need to see that I did not say it was my opinion that Gilmore Girls is a bad show. It's a fact. Which it is.jennydumas wrote:Are you that ignorant?
The production values are good, but that comes with Money. Money buys the locations, top-quality technical equipment, chic costumes/wardrobe, and pays the stupid, annoying actors. But production values don't make a show good. The writing matters. Money can't make a show good if the writing, characters, and plotline ideas are bad. And if you knew that, you wouldn't assume I was ignorant.
That's where you are wrong. And you would know this if you knew anything about Bad-TV. People don't always watch a TV show because they want to see a good show. Take the imperial examples of other Worst Shows of All-Time. The Howard Stern Show: people tune in for crass behavior, dumb girls who don't talk back, loud and rude conversation, and eventually because they get to liking Howard Stern for his bad programming. Baywatch: dumb women with big boobs and trim figures in tight bikinis. And a show like Gilmore Girls they watch because it's simplistic, nothing serious ever happens, all the main cast are Perfectly Dressed and Attractive and High-Strung and "Nice."jennydumas wrote:If it was a fact then no one would like it!
If that's the way you want it.jennydumas wrote:I am out of this thread.
Now, that was uncalled for. Though I wouldn't put it past a Gilmore Girls-fan.jennydumas wrote:Good luck finding anyone else who cares what you say!

I never seem to have enough money for Complete Series sets
I might be tempted to buy the Full House series set, if I don't get it for Christmas, that way it's more than likely lower in price if I haven't recieved it as a gift.
Other than that I have this to say:
I think everyone needs to take a chill pill or something, I haven't seen a more annoying to read arguement/debate in my life. The only reason I read through it was in hope someone had something worthwhile to read that was actually ON TOPIC
Let's see if this can settle things down a bit:
Lazario hates Gilmore Girls
Most other people here like Gilmore Girls
So, now that we've stated the obvious, let's look at possible solution that I think is worth a try.
1. Everyone can just drop the freaking subject, and we could just all agree to disagree and then get back on track instead of constantly going back and forth getting frustrated.
I don't like Gilmore Girls simply because my cousin is always watching it, and going on and on and on about it, so I see what Lazario is saying about how it's annoying to hear about it. HOWEVER Lazario, instead of hijacking this thread, you could have made your own thread that's Anti-Gilmore Girls and posted all your "revenge" in there. I think it's unfair that you chose this thread to do this in because it wasn't solely about Gilmore Girls, and all your doing is ruining what could be a very nice thread to talk about ALL the different series sets. Now seriously, this is getting ridiculous. Yes, there are people who will say things you don't want to hear Lazario, but why in the world would you want to shove your view and opinion down everyones throat??? So please let's just all move on to a totally different topic now.

I've thought about doing just-that. An episode by episode review as I see them on TV. Just to prove I know what I'm talking about. But why on God's Green Earth would I subject myself to that kind of torture?Chernabog_Rocks wrote:you could have made your own thread that's Anti-Gilmore Girls

Yes, I do get it, to an extent. I understand you have a strong dislike for it and that you find it to be so horrible. But instead of just posting "It's a stupid show' or anything along those lines, why not provide examples of what you think are horrible about it? Is there certain episodes in particular? Maybe a characters personality, bad dialogue?
Of course why stop at just a thread in this forum? Why not make an entire website?

Well, thanks for admitting it.Chernabog_Rocks wrote:I went back and re-read what you wrote on the previous page, sorry about misquoting you, it's just one of those days![]()
...Close. Very close. I didn't say I have a strong dislike for it until I was asked or it was assumed of me. I am a person with very broad tastes. I like a wide variety of programs. And I can accept a lot of different kinds of approaches to television programs. But I'm also very quick to know what's good and what's bad. That is, if it is definitely good or definitely bad. Or definitely not for me. When I see a show about people fixing up / working on cars, I change the channel immediately (unless, of course, they're wicked hot) because I know that's definitely not for me. Same goes of course for most stuff about home renovating, home shopping, cooking, fashion models, and fatheaded people Holding Books standing in front of large crowds of people (no, I'm not talking about C-Span/That Book Review Channel) - the sort of How-To reality programs. But when I see the show is clearly a structured, written program with actual characters, I pay close attention (perhaps too close for most people who would use the show as a bizarre form of Escapism) to it.Chernabog_Rocks wrote:I understand you have a strong dislike for it and that you find it to be so horrible.
I really know my stuff. Because I know when A) no one I have ever met in my entire life worth talking to or getting to know could ever relate to it, or B) the plotlines and performances are bland and stale... that it's a uniformly bad show. I've checked Gilmore Girls out plenty of times and it was so bad that I squinted so hard my head nearly imploded, squirmed in my seat to the point where my eyebrows were touching the floor, and called the local Priest to make sure the world hadn't ended (not to mention pinched myself to make sure I was fully awake). That does not mean I really don't like the show, that means the show is really awful. Because I'm not the kind of person that checks with my personal tastes before judging a show's quality. If I decide I want to.
For instance, Full House. When I watch that show, I'm completely in a fantasy world. Not because I enjoy watching it. Because the whole time, I'm thinking of crazy things to happen to the characters to make the show even 1% realistic. I watch that show because of it's inspired awfulness. Yes, there is such a thing. It's so bad, you actually have to wonder if either it's not a subversive / double-meaning laden satirical comment on something socially relevant, or if an adult human being actually took any part in the production of it. How could anyone not be aware of how absolutely wrong that show is? But... it's so wrong that it manages to easily trick the viewer into thinking it's kind of good. Certainly the reputation it has with me and my friends is that we honestly laugh to the point where the cops show up at our house because we've dialed 911 and hung up so many times thinking one of us was actually about to die from laughing SO HARD. Laughing at the fact that this is actually intended to be some form of comedy.
The same cannot be said for Gilmore Girls. That's not the kind of show where you're compelled to stare at the TV because you can't believe how awful it is. It's not enjoyably awful. That's the kind of show where you're compelled to stare at the people who watch it because you can't believe anyone could be that... Well, you know the rest.
Are you trying to kill me? No one should have to subject themselves to even 1 more second of that wretchedly, ghastly awful thing. Besides, we don't get Cable at work, so I'd have to actually do this on my time off... And really, who would I be doing it for? People who would just get offended if they saw me bash it again? I promise you, they could not stand me going into details about how horrible it is, if I were to cave in and try this Twisted experiment... I can be excrutiatingly meticulous in my critiquings. However, your idea has intrigued me. I shall think about it.Chernabog_Rocks wrote:why not provide examples of what you think are horrible about it?

When I was younger, I loved Full House it just had an appeal. But now I like it just for the memories. Whenever I watch it now, I think "As if that would actually happen
" I'm assuming the same goes for Gilmore Girls. One thing I found hilarious, was when I was talking to a friend about t.v shows, and she said "I hate Friends, it's just not believeable or realistic" and yet she watches shows like Charmed
yeah people with magic powers are running around doing whatever, and yet 6 friends living their lives is unrealistic.

Oh, I've been Reformed when it comes to Friends. My Friends bashing days are over. That show is much funnier than I gave it credit for originally... In spots, that is. Usually only once or twice an episode. Then again, I was only watching the '95/'96 episodes the other day. But that episode where Rachel brought Pheobe to dinner to tell her mean Father that she was pregnant was just hilarious. I can't believe how much I laughed at that. And that was the episode that changed my mind on the show. As for the characters, most of them are generally unlikable and stupid. But I actually think Chandler and Phoebe are good enough to stick with. Monica I'm still on the fence about, but the other 3 are just second-fiddlers.
As for Charmed... no, it's not very good. But at least the cast are mostly adults of mature-enough age where they don't muffle and SpEd-through their allegedly hip dialogue. Which alone puts it a notch about Buffy. Though I guess Charmed has always aimed itself at an audience at least 4/5 years older than the average Buffy fan. But the fighting-demons thing is just too silly. And the fact that everything is so nonchalant. "Oh, it's a demon. I must vanquish you. There! Is he gone? Phew, what a relief. Now, back to life as we know it." Though I should probably give it credit for not being as long and drawn out as Buffy's stiff, cruddy-looking fight scenes. And the majority of their demons looked human, so they saved money on a lot of terrible make-up applications and attachments.
I don't know why I have such trouble resisting 3 really beautiful women... sometimes I just can't. But honestly, I've watched less than 20 minutes of that show this entire month. So, I'd say I'm pretty much safe right now.

Info is available on "The OC": The Complete Series, which is coming at the very low SRP of $179.92. The best part is that S1 will be in widescreen for the first time ever. There's going to be 2 discs of extra supplements as well (no word on what they are outside of an additional new gag reel). Looks like the package will be great, even if the show wasn't always.

"The OC" ran for four seasons. It started in the summer of 2003. Season One: 2003-2004 (an extended season run), Season Two: 2004-2005, Season Three: 2005-2006, Season Four: 2006-2007 (a shortened season run). Each of the sets have typically retailed between $50 and $60 in stores, so it's a really good value. I'm hoping Amazon will offer a 30% discount (at least at first), making it an even better deal.

So Warners have jumped on the Complete Series Bonus Disc bandwagon.
We know somethings gone wrong when Warners have resorted to such cheap tricks.

Hey guys, I found some info on two upcoming Seinfeld releases, including one complete series set. It's from an Aussie website, but it'll essentially be the same releases for both the US and Australia. I'm sure it'll be the same for the UK too.
Seinfeld- Season Nine DVD Boxset(4 discs)-

Seinfeld- The Complete Series Boxset (33 discs)-
http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/795105
It'll have all the nine seasons, plus a bonus disc featuring an entire cast table read. The Complete Series is presented in an old-embossed, smooth black gift box with a bonus disc plus an exclusive leather-bound coffee table book featuring an retrospective of the Seinfeld phenomenon with images and trivia from every episode. Sounds pretty good, right? Sucks that cover art isn't available yet though.

Well, I found out yesterday that David Lynch himself is directing some (all?) of the supplements on the Twin Peaks Complete Series Set. Now, anyone who has only a passing interest in David Lynch will understand what a monumental occurance this actually is.
I really do feel like this is a slap in the face. Dedicated Twin Peaks fans have had to wait through stalled releases due to rights issues, unfulfilled promises of a release date that kept slipping and then (and at the time there was no talk of a complete series set) S2 released with next to no supplements (after LionsGate/Artisan did - admittedly - such a good job with the shorter S1).
And of course, what really irritates is that had S2 not sold, we wouldn't have even got a "Complete Series" set worked on and released.
