Disney MGM-Studios is now Disney-Pixar Studios

The big problem with changing the name to the Disney-Pixar Studios is that the theme park is themed to old Hollywood, thus the MGM in the name.

You mean it <i>was</i> themed to old Hollywood. Ever since the big hat was built, it's sort of lost the nostalgic feel.

As I understand it, the hat was in response to something about the owners of Grauman's Chinese theatre having a problem with the replica in the park. Don't recall where I read about that though.

And also - when the change-over occurs....I bet the Great Movie Ride will be altered dramatically. I'm glad I got the chance to see it for the first time last month, even if my whole family thought it wasn't worth it. They could alter it to a faster moving vehicle with all Pixar movie scenes/interaction inside.

I say this because they are MGM movies (mostly). It wouldn't make sense to have that in the park if they end their licensing with MGM. They could change a million different ways - just update the sets for other movies....like The Santa Clause, National Treasure, Chronicles of Narnia, or even Song of the South.

Do we know if they are gonna tear down everything not related to Disney or Pixar? I wouldnt jump to conclusions yet. However if I find that Lasseter had anything to do with this new plan I will lose all respect for him!

Well, at first I was just going to ignore this news as I thought nobody here really cares about Disney news unless a mutated fish girl is involved(and still hold that suspicion), but since Pixar discussion has been popular and a couple people here besides myself actually are fans of the parks, this is news from last Thursday:

There has been a lot of speculation for years that the Disney-MGM Studios theme park could change its name, but Disney says that won't be happening anytime soon.

It was first reported that it would become the Walt Disney Studios park after a naming agreement with MGM expired.

Then, industry analysts thought the name would be shared by MGM and Pixar once Disney acquired the movie studio last year.

Disney confirmed that an area of the park will be named for Pixar once a new Toy Story ride opens, but the MGM name will remain for the entire park.

Difference is that I've always loved almost everything Disney and not just one movie.

Ya know I'm all for a few pixar themed elements added to MGM, and if they change the name, whatever, what's in the name? But MGM has always been my second favorite kingdom (after Magic Kingdom) and has rides and shows that are just as memorable as others. Fantasmic is Disney's best show out there and there is no way they can get rid of that. Rockin' Rollar Coaster and Tower of Terror are some of the few rides that attract the teens and older people to Disney World when they are not true Disney fans. The Great Movie Ride is a classic and the BlackLot Tour is always fun. They also have a small section of the park dedicated to Star Wars with its Star Tours and Star Wars weekend. They also have two "newish" things there. The new stunt show that shows how stunts are done, focusing on car stunts and the animation studio, where you can see not just pixar but classic disney come to life. For me I'm in crew, a paint crew head and find the behind the stage stuff and the on stage stuff, which Disney does more than one might think, Tarzan, Marry Poppins, Beauty and the Beast, and now High School Musical, plus the little kid stuff. I think it would be a bad idea to go through with changing a already completely loved kingdom. If they want a Pixarland I suggest buying more land, of course it would be more expensive to start from scratch but they wouldn't get as much critism for it either. But starting from scratch probably isn't all that promising and thats probably why Disney is keeping MGM, more or less MGM. The only thing that worries me is that they might take their time and slowly warp it into a true Pixarland before you see it happening.

Different strokes, Justin. It comes down to personal preferences. Not everyone in this fandom will want to discuss everything Disney. Unlike other fandoms, the Disney one tends to split itself into lots of sub-fandoms, all whom enjoy a fair share of passionate fans (ie: Theme parks, Winnie the Pooh, The Little Mermaid, Disney Treasures, DVDs, Pirates... The list goes on). It would ease your frustration if you could just learn to appreciate that.

I wonder if the Disney/MGM Studios is going to be like Pixar? Let me see!

1. The Disney/MGM Studios is now going to be callled the Disney/Pixar Studios.
2. The MGM name should be thinking about putting another park there some place else, or...
3. Put these attractions next to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas or put this one there, MGM is part of the Sony Partnership along with Columbia and Tristar and there you go!

If they are going to change the name, then they should retheme the entire park. But really, aren't there enough Pixar related rides and attractions? Do we really need an entire park of them?

Yeah, I think retheming the park would be a big mistake, and I can deal with the name change as long as they DON'T do that. They really should have just created a PIXAR-themed section of the park (with a Pizza Planet that actually looks and feels like Pizza Planet, not the crummy one they had last few times I went there).
