Mickey's Surprise Party

Post by Prince Phillip »

This is a cartoon I recently discovered as an (easter egg?) on the Mickey in Color tin set. This was not what I expected. I remeber a cartoon, where all the characters, were at a party for mickey:
Donald and Daisy, Clara Cluck, Clarabelle Cow, ect. The whole time Goofy is baking a cake and at the end, the cake falls on top of Mickey's head. However, the cartoon I saw was more of a Norbisco Comercial. :? Does anyone know what I'm talking about. I expect the cartoon I'm thinking about will be on the volume 2 DVD released this December. It is strange that "Mickey's Surprise Party" was included on the first set, as the animation shows it must have been made around the same time as the other one. Oh well.

Also, a clip of the cartoon appears in the Treasures advertisement at the begining of each DVD, on disc 1. It is the clip of Donald and Daisy dancing.

You're thinking of "Mickey's Birthday Party" (1942). Great short. Probably be on the next Treasures release. If I remember correctly, it's a remake of a short on Black & White (which one, I don't recall).

Yeah, there was a BW short called "The Birthday Party" but bares as much resemblance to it's color remake as the 1931 Ugly Duckling does to the 1939 one :) .

I loved getting to see the Mickey Suprise Party cartoon. I love all that obscure freaky kind of stuff. Listen to the Leonard Maltin intro, he explains that the cartoon was basically an ad for Nabisco.

I Have it on a tape I belive was released in the early 90's. It was a series and it is the first on the tape. I don't know the name but Mickey's face is on the cover and it's a pink box.
