Seduce Me, Mrs. Robinson! The Graduate 40th Anniv. 9/11/07

Post by Escapay »

DVDActive has just announced a two-disc 40th Anniversary Edition of The Graduate for September 11!

Extras aren't officially announced yet, but various sites are reporting for inclusion the following:
--Audio Commentary: directors Mike Nichols & Steven Soderbergh
--Audio Commentary: actors Dustin Hoffman & Katharine Ross
--Screen Tests with Video Introductions
--Coming of Age: The Making of The Graduate
--Would You Like Me To Seduce You?: The Seduction Scene Revealed
--One on One with Dustin Hoffman
--Behind the Scenes Documentary (I'm guessing this is the original "The Graduate at 25" documentary from 1992)
--Original Theatrical Trailer
--Soundtrack CD

No problem, Anthony. I was super-excited too when I read it at DVDActive (and even more excited when I checked other sites to confirm the extras!)

First Misery, then The Graduate! Two pieces of good news in one day!

(If they announce a nice two-disc SE for It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, I'll be on Cloud Nine!)

Awesome! It looks like a lot of older films are getting updated releases.

My mom would be mad if she heard about this. She already owns the movie on a single disc DVD.

I've purposely been avoiding the old release in hopes of a SE, and now my waiting's paid off. This will be mine. :D

Even though he's a little too good at playing a realistic stalker character, for the duration of that movie- does anyone else find themselves forming a raging crush on Dustin Hoffman in the movie?

I sometimes find myself crushing on Dustin Hoffman in certain movies he's in...

Short of his obsessive nervousness, he was just beautiful in that movie. I especially liked the scenes of him relaxing or in the pool. He's a very seductive, sensual man when he's quiet. It's almost only at that point that we can really put ourselves in his position. The rest of the time, we're only watching him. I just think he talks too fast, when he does talk. And he's very nervous all the time. For the most part, he seemed the most comfortable with Mrs. Robinson.

And did anyone have any thoughts about that ending on the bus? I was almost confused by it. I seemed to be getting the message that him and Katherine Ross weren't going to make-it.

Color me disappointed.

I haven't gotten this yet, but I read on Amazon that the following bonus features weren't included in the DVD, despite originally being announced:

-Coming of Age: The Making of The Graduate
-Screen Tests with Video Introductions

:(

As for the new stuff, the "retrospective documentary" is called "Students of The Graduate" and is a 25-minute piece on how the movie influenced several present-day filmmakers. Sounds more of a praise piece than something about the making of the film, unfortunately. And the "Would You Like Me To Seduce You?" is only 8 minutes long, which I somewhat expected. On the plus side, the two commentaries sound interesting and worth the listen, and the film is FINALLY anamorphic, woohoo!

Still, I'm upset over the newer making-of doc and screen tests being dropped.

According to Home Theater Forum members there is a massive improvement to the transfer which is what really matters.

Count me in on a rare non-Disney double dip.
