Quick question about the Gold Collection Pocahontas DVD

Post by Jungleprince_55 »

On the back under "Specifications" it says it includes English, French, & Spanish 5.1, But it also says it has "Theatre Vision(TM): 2.0 Dolby Surround.

It that just a fancy way of saying that the 2.0 track is the one that was presented during the Theatrical run.

TheatreVision actually is an audio-description track for the visually impaired. A narrator would describe what's going on in the scene. It was used in the original Tarzan releases (single-and-two-disc) as well. According to their site, in addition to Pocahontas and Tarzan, TheatreVision tracks exist for Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules (I wonder why they skipped over Mulan...).

*goes and gets Tarzan, will re-edit this post with a transcript excerpt*

Okay, here's an excerpt from the beginning...

Over a blue background, the all-white many-tiered castle of Disney appears in the center of the screen, with white script underneath reading "Walt Disney Pictures". This dissolves into a dark eerie jungle, crowded with low hanging and thick green plant life. As we move swiftly through the dense jungle night, white titles appear proclaiming "Walt Disney Pictures Presents..." The word "Tarzan" appears carved into a slab of thick brown rock. White lightning flashes revealing a small baby held tightly in the arms of its young beautiful mother. They sit inside a tiny brown dinghy, which is being lowered in the raging waters of the feisty ocean. Above them a giant ship is in flames. A bearded man in a torn white shirt struggles to lower the rope attached to the dinghy while the ship disintegrates all around him. He barely escapes the flaming spar that hits the winch beside him. He falls backward as the dinghy careens into the sea. When the boat is still, the mother looks up into the flaming ship and sees no sign of the brave man. Then, the man comes diving off the ship, down into the water. He swims to the dinghy, where the mother, still clinging tight to her frightened baby helps him up and into safety. As their dinghy floats away from the ship, the young couple embraces warmly as the ship sinks under the ocean currents.

My word Escapay. Do you know shorthand! :D

Most Disney DVDs over here have Audio Descriptive soundtracks. I believe this is because the producers get a grant from the government which funds the recording. (either fully or partially)
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
