DMC's contractor's employee sells my credit card info to FBI

Post by skippy »

I got a letter in the mail today that my credit card information was sold to the FBI by Alta Resources, Inc, which handles order processing for the Disney movie club.

It was part of an undercover sting operation.

Wow!!!

I'll be watching my credit card statements very, very carefully from now on.

Anyone else get a letter like this?

I got mine a couple days ago. It's kind of creepy...I don't think I've noticed any suspicious activity yet, and hopefully no one involved will.

I just talked with a Disney Visa representative about my card.

What they are doing is changing the credit card number of anyone who calls and expresses concern about it. I should get my new card within 5 days.

Pretty cool of Disney Visa to be right on top of it.

Boo to Disney Movie Club for doing business with an organization that does not properly screen it's employees.

I have a Disney Visa, but that's not the card I use for the DMC...I probably won't change anything unless I see some suspicious activity on my bank statement, I guess.

This kinda freaks me out, is any one considering canceling their accounts because of this? I kinda am.

Personally, I'm not going to go through any hassle for something that may not have happened...I'm being optimistic, I guess. If I do see something suspicious, though, then I'll contact my bank.

I got the letter last week also but I haven't noticed anything suspicious on my account (hopefully it stays that way!). People will do anything for money!

There's probably not a need to panic at this point.

Remember, you're only responsible for $50 worth of fraudulent charges made on a credit card, by law. I'm keeping watch on my credit card account that I use with DMC, and if I notice any unauthorized charges in my statement, I'll notify my credit card company and have the account number changed.

And this sort of thing could happen with any merchant, and has recently (TJ Maxx, for example) so I wouldn't necessarily fault DMC for this.
