Family Fun Editions

Post by danfrandes »

I wonder if they could release any animated movie in a Family Fun Edition like these movies

1. An American Tail (Steven Spielberg/Don Bluth)
2. The Land Before Time (Steven Spielberg/Don Bluth)
3. An American Tail: Fievel Goes West (Steven Spielberg/Phil Nibbelink)
4. We're Back! - A Dinosaur's Story (Steven Spielberg/Phil Nibbelink)

Those movies are owned by Universal, and the Family Fun Edition line is by Fox and MGM, so unless the studios decide to work together to make a release, or Universal licenses the titles out to them, you won't see any Family Fun Edition for those movies.

Let's hope we see Home Alone 2: Lost in New York: Family Fun Edition this Christmas. Or better yet, something similar that isn't called that.

I hate that title. Do families actually sit around audio commentaries, featurettes, and trailers with the silly traditionalist's idea of "family glee" stretched from ear to ear and eyes so wide everything bounces off of their beaming pearls and tenderly pass a bowl of popcorn around to each other as they lay on the living room sofa their heads curled up in their hands while they regale themselves in the innocently enchanting stories of how the filmmakers got the production money together and where every scene was shot?

Or are they just trying to rip-off Disney's child-oriented DVD bonus features? And encouraging Disney to start using silly names like "Friendship Edition." What friendship has got to do with nightmares about heffalumps and woozles - I'd like to know.

You should be proud, you got all that out in one breath.

I'm not really a big fan of any of these movies, so I could care less if they got new DVD's. Plus, as Escapay pointed out, Family Fun Edition is a FOX entity.

Not sure if I take your meaning correctly. But if I do - cheers!

But Home Alone so deserved a new DVD. And it has a commentary with Macaulay Culkin and one of 2 important guys - either Hughes or Columbus.

Hey, I was wondering, do you think 1989's Don Bluth movie "All Dogs Go To Heaven" could be released as a "Family Fun Edition"?

There's another example of a movie that is truly not "fun" for a family. It was very serious and even emotional.

But- HA! Someone on a message board said that Sony still controlled MGM. Now we know that's not true anymore. Just like I said, Fox has it now. Was it this board? Anyway... good show. I'm so glad Sony was told to go to hell. They were ruining MGM.

Dude, Sony DOES still own MGM. They just have Fox distributing the dvds and taking care of the Home Entertainment front.

Okay - if Fox is doing all the work (I'm not doubting you), what does Sony do with MGM? What are they doing with MGM? Fox is the only one we're seeing do anything.

Next Family Fun Edition?

Post by Sotiris »

Do you have any idea or any news about which movie will be the next in the Family Fun Edition line? I just bought The Secret of NIMH and I was wondering which one will be next.

I really hope All Dogs Go to Heaven and Thumbelina get Family Fun Editions. Even though both films have a lot of problems (All Dogs can be kind of muddled in its storytelling, and Thumbelina is often cloying and saccharine), I still like both and would be willing to buy them with solid transfers and bonus features.

DvdActive just announced that the next Family Fun Edition will be (sadly) Jingle All the Way. I don't know why they chose this movie.

^ Agreed, that would have been the last one I would have thought of. :( Come on Fox, get your head out your A** and give Home Alone 2 a new dvd.
