Beyonce as "Aida" ... Could be!

Post by Rowlf_The_Dog »

It seems "Aida" may be coming soon to a big screen near you ... as a big flashy live action movie musical ...

From JimHillMedia.com ::
But instead those offices have been abuzz lately with the news that Walt Disney Studios is seriously thinking about turning DT's earlier production, "Aida," into a big budget movie musical.

"And just who would play the title role in the film version of this Elton John musical?," you ask. Would you believe Beyoncé? The Mouse is reportedly already in talks with this pop diva, trying to convince Ms. Knowles to make "Aida" her follow-up project to "Dreamgirls."

Starring in the movie version of this Tony Award-winning musical should be a no-brainer for Beyoncé. Particularly since the show's title role has proven to be such an effective showcase for chart toppers like Toni Braxton and Ms. Knowles' fellow "Destiny's Child" survivor, Michelle T. Williams.

Mind you, the folks back at the studio are thrilled that a movie version of "Aida" is finally in the works. After all, that's why Disney bought the rights to the children's storybook version of Giuseppe Verdi's opera that Leontyne Price wrote back in 1990. Because they originally thought that this material might make fine fodder for a feature length cartoon.

So now -- after almost 20 years -- to have "Aida" finally come full circle and return to the studio. Only this time not as a proposed animated feature, but as a live action movie musical ... Well, there's something very pleasing about that.

I've never seen the broadway show, but I did hear the plot only recently. I'd like to see this come true.

I saw the show in February and I think it would make a great musical. The lyrics and music are so breathtaking, and I think Beyonce would do a good job as Aida.

i loveeeeeeeeeeee aida! but i dont think beyonce's vocal and singing style fits the strong commanding prowess needed for aida and her songs. i'd rather alicia keys play the part IF theyre going 4 a celebrity casting. but as ive said time n time again, i really wish theyd make it into animated form.thatd be a strong revitalisation to the 2d art form.

I'll believe this when I hear something from a studio instead of Jim Hill's wild speculations. Either way, it's not a musical I'm very enamored with.

I agree with whoever said they don't think Beyonce's vocal style fits her character. I can't really imagine Aida riffing up all her songs. But who knows. Maybe she'll surprise me.

I think a live action verison would look BEAUTIFUL! Especially if they hire Chicago director, Rob Marshall. I can just imagine how stunning it would look.

I don't think the role of Aida, is for Beyonce. Even though, Beyonce is very beautiful, and would look great in the egyptian desert. I think the role, needs a more mature look, and much stronger, deeper voice. I guess they want a young Aida, but in my opinion, Toni Braxton would be perfect. She already played the role, and she has the amazing talent needed for the role.

Also, if indeed, it is live action. I wish they would write a special part for Vanessa L. Williams, she would look incredible in something of this nature. Her eyes would glow like a pool in an oasis. And we all know, that Ms. Williams can carry a tune.

Heather Headley's still my pick. She played the part extensively during its Broadway run and has just the right vocal style for it. Plus she's more beautiful than Beyonce.

I haven't seen Aida either, but I really hope that this big screen version goes ahead, cause I'd love to see it, and see Beyonce do another role. Any word on who else would be starring with her in it?

Do you mean you've heard he's supposed to be in the film or you hope he'll be?

Why? Because Egyptians weren't originally white? I think an interracial cast would give interesting contrast to the story. I also hope they don't try to do a historically accurate and completely realistic film, but keep some abstract and theater-like elements in it. It could be beautiful if they do it right.

I must admit I've been secretly hoping Disney would realize the potential of Aida as a live action film musical, before they become unpopular again...

I read that on Jim Hill Media today, too. I just read on Wikipedia about the plot and the role of Mereb. I'm very confused about the plot and who Aida's love interest is, etc. Way confusing. I would LOVE it if Corbin would be in "Aida", though...that'd be awesome!!! :) :) :) Can a Nubian servant have big curly hair? Because I can't imagine Disney telling him to change his hair.

I really hope they don't ruin it with the casting. If it's true atleast.

It'll be plenty funny if in Beyonce's follow-up to Dreamgirls, a movie in which she played a lead singer who stole the thunder of her girl group partners, she plays a role previously performed by her real-life ex-girl group partner.

Wow, award for most pointless post ever? :|

I've never seen the musical, or even heard any of the music from it. I've just seen the poster. It would be cool if they made this, Disney hasn't done a live-action musical in a long time (not counting Enchanted since it's not out yet).
