Billboard Music Charts- Miley Cyrus tops Kelly Clarkson

Post by James »

Hey guys, check this out-
Cyrus Sidesteps Clarkson To Debut At No. 1
In a battle between two top-selling female acts, Miley Cyrus triumphed over Kelly Clarkson to score the No. 1 position on The Billboard 200 with the confusingly titled double album "Hannah Montana 2 (Soundtrack)/Meet Miley Cyrus." The Disney project sold a whopping 326,000 units in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Clarkson's embattled "My December" (RCA) opened at No. 2 with 291,000.

The "Hannah/Miley" album is a two-disc, 20-song set evenly divided between music from Cyrus' TV series "Hannah Montana" and her debut studio album. On one side of the album is cover art for "Hanna Montana 2," while the other side boasts artwork for "Meet Miley Cyrus." The first "Hannah Montana" soundtrack also debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 last October with 281,000.

Clarkson's first-week total with "My December" improves on the opening frame of her 2004 smash "Breakaway," which started at No. 3 with 250,000. But the new album has been mired in controversy, beginning with rumors that RCA didn't like the self-penned material and continuing on with Clarkson's split with her manager and cancellation of her summer tour due to poor ticket sales.
Wow, can't believe Miley beat Kelly. The power of tweens is in full force isn't it?

Doesn't anyone care about this? Come on guys, a tweeny bopper beat out an established and popular artist that won American Idol! Someone who's only been famous for a year! Doesn't that mean something to anyone!

I think that's awesome! Yay for Disney! I like Kelly Clarkson, but I'd rather have the HM/Miley CD, which I'll hopefully get at some point.

Walt Disney Records' and Hollywood Records' Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus Debuts at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart

– Trifecta as #1 Selling Album in the U.S., #1 on the Billboard Soundtrack and #1 on Children's Charts; Ships Platinum –

– Miley Cyrus is Youngest Ever Recording Artist with Two #1 Albums in Less Than a Year –

BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The highly anticipated album release Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus, a two-disc set from Walt Disney Records and Hollywood Records, soared to #1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart in its release week (June 24-July 1), scanning over 325,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan. In addition to debuting as the #1 selling album in the U.S., it is #1 on the Billboard Children's and Soundtrack charts and shipped over one million units with Platinum certification by the R.I.A.A. expected within 30 days.

Digital sales were strong as well and the CD ranked #1 on the iTunes Music Store while two new episodes of the series ranked as the top two best-selling TV episodes.

Bob Cavallo, chairman of the Disney Music Group, says, "Miley has a long career ahead of her. When I watched her performance on Good Morning America I was impressed with her confidence and her effervescent delivery."

The pop/rock double CD marks the solo recording debut of 14-year-old singer/songwriter Miley Cyrus, star of Disney Channel's "Hannah Montana," and is the second soundtrack from the hit series for kids, tweens and families. Last fall, the series' first soundtrack, "Hannah Montana," debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200, the first ever TV soundtrack to do so, and scanned over 280,000 units. It is now triple-Platinum with over 3 million units sold worldwide.

Miley Cyrus is the youngest ever recording artist with two #1 albums in less than a year.

Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus is rolling out worldwide now and is expected to be available in over 45 countries by the end of the year.

Walt Disney Records' Hannah Montana 2 soundtrack features 10 songs from the show’s second season performed by Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana. The set also includes Hollywood Records' Meet Miley Cyrus, marking the teen’s solo debut. Cyrus co-wrote seven of the songs on her debut CD.

This fall, Cyrus will launch her first North American concert tour, a double bill show where she will be featured as both a solo artist and as Hannah Montana. The 54-date arena tour embarks October 18 in St. Louis with full routing to be announced shortly. Cyrus will donate $1 from each ticket sold to The City of Hope.

"Hannah Montana" is seen on Disney Channels all over the world and on DisneyChannel.com via streaming broadband video. It is also available at the iTunes Music Store. In 2006 and 2007-to-date, it is the #1 series on basic cable television with kids age 6-14. In 2006, across all television, it was second only to "American Idol" in those key youth demographics. The series is also seen Saturday mornings on the ABC Television Network’s “ABC Kids” programming block.

More information on Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus can be found on DisneyRecords.com, MileyWorld.com, and on MileyCyrus.com. Walt Disney Records and Hollywood Records are part of the Disney Music Group, the recorded music and music publishing arm of the Walt Disney Company.

Even though I'm embaressed to admit it, I'd rather have the HM/MC cd too. I'd love to hear her solo stuff, so hopefully they release it in Australia and I can hear it soon.

It's Hilary Duff all over again. Except with less talent. And the fact that she topped Clarkson is just scary.

Ha, yeah, just proves how powerful the 8-14 year old market is. I'm sure that High School Musical 2 will debut there as well, which is kind of sad in a way, even though I like the movies.

Even though she didn't debut in the #1 spot, I still am happy about the sales of Kelly's CD. 291K in its first week out is still a great accomplishment.

And this Hannah Cyrus chicky (or whatever her name is) will probably have a huge drop from #1 next week. It's just all the tweens who bought it within the first week. It'll have no staying power.

We don't have an "official" Miley Cyrus thread, so I figured I'd post this in this thread:

Miley has a new song out (thanks to tommy2.net for letting me know):

I really like it! She's great. When I read that she had a new song out, I figured this would be one of the new songs she performed at the Disney Channel Games concert, but it isn't- all of the new music I've heard of hers is awesome. I mean, I like all of her music, but it's all so good!!!

Yay! :)
