well I saw At World's End and I'm lowering my prediction for its domestic total to $371 million

Anyway, <i>Ratatouille</i> appears to have dealt Pixar its smallest opening weekend since <i>A Bug's Life</i>. According to BOM estimates, it clocked in a full $13 million less than <i>Cars</i>, which itself opened $10 M below <i>Finding Nemo</i> and <i>The Incredibles</i>. I expect <i>Ratatouille</i> to have fairly good legs but it will need pretty remarkable ones to pass $200 M in the face of all the summertime competition. With legs like <i>Cars</i>', it'd end up with $191 M, which would put it right at <i>Toy Story</i>, tied for the 2nd lowest Pixar domestic gross, and just about where I predicted it'd end up.

If it ends up in the $190-$200 M range, it will land alongside <i>Madagascar</i>, <i>Happy Feet</i>, and <i>Ice Age: The Meltdown</i>, which now have a shot at becoming the only non-<i>Shrek</i> CG-animated films to outgross Pixar ones this decade.

Not with Transformers coming next week, and a low-budget film with a cliched market called "Harry Potter" coming after that. Cars had strong legs because it didn't have much competition for about a whole month. Ratatouille looks to not have much competition for about a whole week(and it still has to face Die Hard and a bunch of other films).

I wouldn't be surprise if this grosses less than A Bug's Life.

Ratatouille did okay. Still amazing that Pixar's most disappointing release still had an opening week bigger than any Disney animation opening week and is likely to end up with more $$ than any film Disney has released since The Lion King.

And with the quality going up at both Pixar and Disney, I can say Disney made a smart move buying Pixar.
