Harry Potter midnight release

who here is going to the release? if you are what store? and do you think they might have extra security to prevent spoilers?
i'll go to the release since it's in walking distance to my local Hastings. and if they do have security they'll most likely have it where they won't give the book to you unless you pay for it first.

I've never been to one but I worked in a book store when book 5 was released. At our chain of stores you could only attend the midnight party if you had already pre-ordered the book I believe. Either that or they only let in the amount of people they had copies of the book for. That way there was no mobbing or fighting!

I'm just having mine delivered on the Saturday....not a big fan of fighting the crowds!

I'll probably go to my local Meijer. My mom and I went last time to get HP 6, so I'll probably go again. I won't go to the party, which is a few hours before, and I probably won't start reading it until school starts unless I get my summer reading done (not likely). Anyway, I'll probably just go stand in line, go home, read like the first chapter, and fall asleep.

There will be enough copies to sustain the US (hopefully). At least there should be, since this is the final book and the US is (probably) one of the highest countries that top the list of reading the series. I don't think you'll have a problem.

I will definatley be at my local Barnes & Noble on midnight to get this book, just as I have with the past books! I cannot wait for this! It's soooooo exciting!

Normally at the midnight parties I go to, they do the normal trivia quizzes, fortune tellers, etc. I wonder if there will be anything new this year, as it is the last book.

I've never been to a midnight release for a Harry Potter book before, and this is my last chance to correct that. My plan is to go to the Dolphin Mall to see Hairspray and then pick up the book at the amazing, two-story Borders that's part of the mall. It's a 40 minute drive, but the mall (and theater, and Borders) are so nice that it's worth it. A friend of mine plans on going with me just for the fun of it since she already pre-ordered the book from Amazon.

I will be avoiding the midnight rush... Instead I will do what I have done in recent years for the past 2 books... I order via Amazon.com and they even have a special offer if you pre-order it with standard shipping it will arrive via USPS or UPS on the day of its release.... I highly recomend it... for those that want to avoid the Midnight drama.... It easier and it saves on gas in these times of crazy Fuel Prices.....

I've been to the Barnes & Noble midnight madness party for the last two books and will definitely be back for it this year -- hopefully at the really nice two-story B&N in my area. It's a little nerdy but still a lot of fun and one of the most reliable ways to ensure that you get your book at or near midnight. For those who haven't been before, a word of advice: get there <i>early</i>. In the past, people arriving later than 10pm were usually turned away. I expect this to be an even bigger affair, so an arrival of 9pm or earlier might be wise. Also, preorder/reserve your book from the store you'll be at. I've seen them run short of copies and give priority to those with pre-orders/reservations. DK's idea of seeing <i>Hairspray</i> just before (there's a really nice theater and mall in this complex for me as well) is a good one, but it'll have to be an earlier showing.

What went on at the Barnes and Noble in terms of activites and the such. I've not been to any and am contemplating going at midnight for the final book.

And DisneyKid said to see Hairspray that weekend. I would actually go see Harry Potter 5, even if I've already seen it once.

actually AwallaceUNC you don't need to arive early for the release since for the HBP release me and my mom were in anaheim for the 50th and our hotel was just across the street from disneyland and we left our hotel a little before 11 and arived at the bookstore at downtown disney around 11:30 and didn't get turned away, heck they didn't even open until 11:50 and started handing the books out to people a minute after that so i got an early californian copy but i didn't read it until i got back to the hotel. but the worst part was they said they would have a party with potion brewing, cookies, trivia, and other things but it was a no-show. so this year if i leave the house at the same time i'll arive between 11:20 and 11:30 so i'll have to wait a half hour for the book and when i leave a little after midnight i'll arive home at about 12:20- 12:30 but if there are a lot of people probably closer to 1.

Interesting. I guess different Barnes & Noble stores have different crowd levels. I was in the one on Sand Lake Road in Orlando for books 5 and 6 (come to think of it, I went to one for HP4 in North Carolina too) and the place was definitely opened and packed way before midnight. In fact, the line wrapped through each aisle throughout the entire store.

It's probably best to ask your local store what they recommend. They'll know how many people have shown up in the past and how many books they've had reserved. That way you don't show up too early or too late, though the former is at least a safer bet than the latter.

As for activities -- well, I've always gotten the impression that more is going on in the store than I've actually seen. It's a such a madhouse inside that I've always kind of gotten a spot and stayed there, just passing the time with my friends and not really looking for activities. I think they've got various kid-targeted stuff set up, particularly earlier on in the evening. A lot of people come in costume, though, which is fun to see.

Well, I'll probably see Order of the Phoenix twice, maybe even three times before I purchase Deathly Hallows. Plus, I really want to see Hairspray opening weekend. Seeing it on Friday is my best bet since I'll be spending Saturday and Sunday immersed in book 7, and the days following will consist of my wrapping my head around what I've just read and discussing that with others. In other words, Hairspray will rendered superfluous lest I see it before reading Deathly Hallows.

Though now that I think about it, if the friend who's going with me to the midnight book release hasn't seen movie five by then, perhaps we'll do a double feature before going to Borders. If that happens, then I'll definitely see Order of the Phoenix right before waiting in line for the book.

Oh, d'uh. I don't remember seeing a bookstore at Disneyland's Downtown Disney -- I wonder if I missed it, if it isn't there anymore, or if I'm just forgetting it. I was in WDW for the last books and finding a midnight release of the book close to property was difficult, which is why I ended up on Sand Lake Road for both. The next day, however, they were readily available in Epcot's UK pavilion.

Not going to go anywhere at midnight. I don't quite understand how some people get so obsessed to do that anyway. I'm not sure if I could even enjoy reading the book that late (unless I slept all day beforehand).

But I will be going first thing the next day. I have to go to a special, second-rate place just to find a copy. Which isn't so bad, considering Barnes and Nobles overprices everything (almost as bad as Disney...almost).

I might have to drive some kids to a Barnes & Noble at midnight to get the final HP book. My friend works at Barnes & Noble and the way her store does it is you have to pre-order the book at the store in order to be able to pick it up at midnight.
