Blu-ray Rot! Check your discs

Post by DarthPrime »

Saw on a few forums that several people are experiencing disc rot on Blu-rays. The Prestige is reported the most as having this problem, but other titles are affected as well (Gone In 60 Seconds, Stranger Than Fiction). Looks like it might have just been a bad pressing on these discs, cause only a small number of discs are like this from what I have read.

The bottom of the Blu-ray will be covered in spots if you have this.

Just thought I'd let everyone know about this. I know there are several Blu-ray collectors on UD.

Well, people have been saying for a while that HD-DVD/Blu-Ray would be the next LaserDisc. I guess this seals it.

Seriously, though, if this continues to be a problem, I won't go near Blu-Ray. I dealt with this crap on LD's and it gets old fast.

It can't be true disc rot although the result may appear similar. It is just too quick. Really anyone who is on Blu Ray so quickly should be expecting such problems around launch. They are still working out the kinks.

just give it time since it just came out. if your not going to buy a new product because of something don't since they will fix it just like how Sony fixed that disk read error for the PS2 in later versions. unfortunaly i had one of the earlier models. oh and let's not forget Wii since it was getting sued for the Wiimote straps braking and in turn broke the tv. why sue them for something thats out of their control since its the people throwing the Wiimote not nintendos fault.
sorry for going on a rant there for a mo.

Not sure if it is true "rot" but it is scary that it is happening so soon. There are some pictures over on the AVS site that show it, and it just looks odd.

Disc rot can happen on CDs and DVDs as well, although I have never personally had it happen. It wasn't limited to just Laserdiscs,

With skipping/freezing HD DVDs, and now Blu-rays "rotting" I'm worried about these new formats. Format growing pains I guess.
