ok......Unlike Britney who cranked out a CD each year.....

Christina Aguilera likes to take her time......

She feels that she doesn't want to get "boring" or "burned out" or something, I forgot her exact words.....

So in conclusion it takes Christina forever to crank out a new album....

It's better not to expect one until you get news of one coming out soon.........

Yes but I know she's working on one at the moment and it was rumored to be out by the end of this year, I just wanted to know whether someone could clarify this by telling me if it was true or not.

Just found this thread...

The CD is rumored to come out in Spring 2006. We haven't heard any clips from anything yet, but I go to a forum where there are paparrazzi pictures posted all the time of her going to/leaving the recording studio. Once in a while we get news on the producers working on Christina's album, and over a week ago we got MAJOR news from a producer by the name, DJ Premier. He says she already has her first single planned, which was done by him and has 127 beats per minute. It's untitled right now because they're still working on it. Other songs he's doing are called "Back In the Day," "Thank You," and an intro to "Thank You" which we don't have a title for yet, and it's like a remix of the old track, "Genie In a Bottle." There's talk that "Back In the Day" will be a 2nd or 3rd single, which is down to about 100 beats per minute and it's a tribute to many of the old soul artists from long ago, hence the name, "Back in the Day." Christina is a huge fan of that era and the album is supposed to reflect that type of music... classic soul, jazz, and blues.

We know of one other song title, called "Understanding," which Kwame' produced. Not much details on that one yet. Other producers who are working on the album are Swizz Beatz, Rich Harrison, Trackstarz, Rob Hoffman, Heather Holley, and possibly Linda Perry again ("Beautiful") but we don't know that.

I have a good feeling when she comes out with this it will be a major hit. :D

Plus, you may want to pick up Herbie Hancock's new CD, "Possibilities." He's a jazz legend with 10 Grammy awards and he did a song with Christina where she does the vocals for the standard song, "A Song for You." It's very good and the other tracks are nice as well, featuing John Mayer, Joss Stone, Annie Lenox, Paul Simon, etc.

I didn't want to create a new thread until I make an "official" one when the hype really starts in the media... but here's a new MTV article just posted today. Lots of interesting info...
Christina's New Split-Personality Album Is Mature And 'Dirrty'
04.27.2006 9:20 PM EDT

Singer taps diverse producers to carry out her jazz/hip-hop vision.

Sure, Christina Aguilera got married, collaborated with old hands Herbie Hancock and Andrea Bocelli and made an album she's called "retro," but the former Xtina still has a dirty side.

In fact, she's got a track on that new record with Nas called "Still Dirrty."

"It's part two of the one she did on the last album, but the beat is totally different," said DJ Premier, who produced several of the songs. "It's more jazz-sampled with these horn blasts."

Aside from previewing a few tracks on "TRL" recently, Aguilera has yet to say much about her new record, but according to its primary producers, fans should expect music that takes an innovative approach to honoring past eras.

"DJ Premier's half is very hip-hop with old samples, and then when my half of the album kicks in, all I can say is, just have a glass of wine and enjoy the ride," said Linda Perry, another producer on the disc. "It's a very mature, very risky album [of] old-school jazzy blues. You're gonna think that these songs were recorded and written back in 1940."

"It's called Back to Basics, and that's exactly what it sounds like, the whole album," Premier added.

Nas is the only guest on the record, according to Premier, but Outkast's Big Boi is recording a verse for the remix to the first single, "Ain't No Other Man." Aguilera is shooting a video for the song this weekend.

"It's pretty much about how her husband has stolen her from looking at anybody else, 'cause he's the one who did it for her," said Premier, who produced the track with Charles Roane. "And the record's real sassy, like an old Aretha [Franklin] 'Respect' kind of attitude. It's real raw and has breakbeats in it and everything, but it's chopped up and totally tailored to what she was trying to do [by] collaborating with me."

On Wednesday, Aguilera told Premier she was sore from learning the crazy choreography for the clip.

"The song is real, real fast, which is definitely different for me, 'cause I don't do real fast tempo," Premier said. "This thing is like 130 beats per minute, but it still sounds like hip-hop/ Christina."

Aguilera worked with Perry on 2002's Stripped but turned to Premier for the first time after hearing his jazz-influenced work with Gang Starr.

"I was surprised I got that call 'cause of our differences in the audiences we hit, but I'm always up for challenges and trying something new," Premier said. "She described what her album is about and then she sent me some CDs of what type of stuff's been inspiring her to make the record, and it happened to be a lot of stuff that I grew up on in the early '70s, 'cause I'm 40. Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Marvin Gaye, Esther Williams, all kinds of different things. Once I saw that's the vibe she wanted, I still had to make it sound like the way my beats thump and stuff but still give her the atmosphere she's trying to bring out on the singing side."

Premier used live instrumentation on some tracks and sampled old jazz records on others. On one tune, he sampled voice messages from fans left through Aguilera's Web site with one of her own classics.

"I had 'Genie in a Bottle' a cappella on vinyl, and I was scratching that, trying some things, and Christina walked in and was like, 'Yo, that's hot,' so we laid that down," Premier said. "That turned into a whole song called 'Thank You,' and I think it's the last song on the album."

Premier was only slated to do one or two tracks but ended up with five on the album, plus the intro. Perry also has several tracks, and Kwame, Mark Ronson and Big Tank, who does the music for "The Boondocks" cartoon, each contribute as well.

"She played me the stuff Linda Perry did, and everything was dope, totally opposite from what my music is, but when you put it all in the right sequence, it works," Premier said. "Her album is really, really well-rounded. She totally put it together right. And she was directing the whole thing. She knew what she wanted."

Perry, who has also been working with Courtney Love (see "Linda Perry Wants To Save 'Queen Of Rock And Roll' Courtney Love"), said Aguilera's marriage has matured her for the better (see "Christina Aguilera Marries Jordan Bratman").

"She's got a lot of wonderful things to say," Perry said. "It was really easy to be a part of the record, because she was so clear with her vision of the record and the ideas that she came with. All I did was sit and listen to her ideas and came up with a way to record it."

Christina has called the album gritty and raw (see "Christina Aguilera Finishing 'Raw' LP, Waiting For Perfect Film Role"), but Perry said fans of her angelic voice need not worry.

"People thought she could sing before — well, you haven't heard anything yet," Perry said. "But it's definitely a risky record. It's not Stripped at all. ... She's completely in a different space."

Perry has one mix left but said the album is otherwise done. Aguilera's spokesperson said to expect a late summer/ early fall release.

Bumping an old thread, but as I posted in the Concerts thread, I recently saw Christina Aguilera in concert for the first time. As this was the Back to Basics tour, the bulk of the many performances came from that album (which is fantastic, by the way, aside from some unfortunate filler and that corny self-tribute -- easily her best non-holiday album so far). Christina was in top-form, wowing the audience with her vocals and showmanship with each and every song. It was in interesting experience for me, as I'd never been to a "pop" concert like this. In fact, it's the first concert I've been to in which the artist didn't play an instrument. Still, she had an amazing, full-scale jazz band on stage and her voice is more than an instrument itself. The theatrics that are on display in this production had me in awe, especially when the circus unfolded on stage. Stand-out performances included "Lady Marmalade", "Fighter", and "Oh Mother". My only complaints? Not enough ballads and the sexuality occasionally erred on the side of crass.

Opening acts were Danity Kane and The Pussycat Dolls. I'd never heard of the former, though I did recognize one song. Sitting there, I imagined I would have been better off at a Cheetah Girls concert. They were a joke -- bad songs, bad singing, choreography that was anything but in sync, and moderate-at-best attractiveness (which, given their near-nakedness) appears to be their selling point. The Pussycat Dolls were a little better, occasionally sounding not so bad and showing off impressive (though overly sexual, woman-degrading) choreography. At one point, they broke into an extended strip routine without even bothering to sing. In fact, the lead singer seems to be the only one who ever sings, so I assume the rest are there as eye candy (though some of that candy doesn't look so tasty). The lead Doll did deliver a very interesting ethnic rendition of "Feeling Good," which was kind of cool. Unlike Christina, both groups used canned background music with no bands.

A few random notes/observations...

*Christina tripped and fell hard. A backup dancer worked the effort to help her into the dance and Christina finished the song, though with some laughter, apologies, and heavy limping thrown in. Afterwards, she talked for a good ten minutes about how embarrassed she was, saying it was her first-ever concert fall.

*The concert did not sell out. In fact, it was quite empty until Christina showed up. I was surprised, especially given that it was kind of a small arena

*"What a Girl Wants" and "Come on Over" were drastically reworked

*No "Genie in a Bottle"? Come on. (Ditto for "Mercy on Me" :()

*The lead Pussycat Doll was extremely odd, screaming and making all kinds of weird noises

Lucky you! I would love to see Christina Aguilera in concert. I have loved her for a long time, and I really like her new CD. I know she would be really great to see in concert because she is a wonderful performer.

Sorry, this is about the Pussycat Dolls, but all of them can sing. Nicole is obviously the lead, and sings all the time, but both Melody and Carmit -the black-ish one and the redhead- sing solo sometimes, and the rest- Kimberly, Ashley and Jessica- sing backup. They'll all get solos on the new album, to prove they can all sing. Yeah, their choreography is quite impressive, but yeah can get a bit sexual at times. And Nicole likes to improvise on stage.

Just noticed this thread was bumped a week ago. Cool review, Aaron.

I never got to see Christina in concert (ever). I would have loved to have went to the one in Washington, DC but couldn't make it.

I heard about that fall. So you went to *that* concert, huh. :)

Her tour has been selling amazing all over the US, UK, and the upcoming Australia tour. Tour dates kept getting added in Australia because most of them were getting sold out. I think there were one or two places here in the US that was sold out within between 20 minutes to an hour. Not sure where since I haven't really been following the details how well the tour was doing.

Maybe one of these days I'll get to see my favorite singer...

Here's a quote from Wikipedia about a new deluxe edition of Back to Basics-
It was announced that there will be a Deluxe package of the album released which will include all the songs on disc one and two plus some extra songs, and a third disc containing the videos for Ain't No Other Man, Hurt and Candyman plus the making of Candyman. The deluxe package is to be released in Japan on June 6th and Australia on June 30th.It has not been confimed when or if it will reach the shelves in the US or UK.
Wow, that's cool, sucks that both the UK and the US miss out. For now. Don't you guys worry, you'll probably get it, probably even better with the clip for Slow Down Baby on it. It's just being released now for us as tour editions, to cash in on her tour. And is she pregnant? Because people are saying that she might cancel her tour here because of the pregnancy. That'd suck big time.

Hopefully those extra tracks are available individually on iTunes, because I really don't want to re-buy the album. The music videos would be nice to have (didn't even realize she made one for "Hurt") but I'd be more interested in a complete music video collection DVD.

I read on MTV News the other day that she's pregnant. It was said that she has been telling her friends and family, and she is expected to make an official announcement in the near future.

Christina has changed over the years musially, and I think lately she's finally found where she's confortable. Her latest album is my favorite, her "look" is often compared to Marilyn Monroe, and she is married, and maybe even going to start a family.

The video for Hurt was really good, it was set in a circus and was black and white at times, and she was like a trapeze artist on an elephant and it was quite emotional too. I'd actually be more interested in a complete set too. If I was at her marketing management, I'd be releasing a greatest hits CD and DVD with all her hit songs and videos on it, at Xmas time to cash in on her popularity, gift giving and also giving her time to have that baby. And I'd also put out a megamix of her, ala what Britney did for My Prerogative.

I guess it is about time for a Greatest Hits:

1. Reflection
2. Genie in a Bottle
3. What a Girl Wants
4. I Turn To You
5. Come on Over Baby (All I Want is You)
6. Nobody Wants to Be Lonely
7. Lady Marmalade
8. Dirrty
9. Beautiful
10. Fighter
11. Can't Hold Us Down
12. The Voice Within
13. Car Wash
14. Ain't No Other Man
15. Hurt
16. Candyman

...Not bad for less than a decade! Not sure I'd buy it, though, since I have all her albums (except the Spanish one, which I'll get at some point). She'd have to add some extra tracks and/or quality remixes, alternate cuts, or B sides. That would require bumping it up to a 2-Disc set, but then that would be easy enough to do anyways if she added in some of the lesser hits to the list above (Tilt Ya Head Back, Infatuation, Hello, Tell Me, What's Going On, A Song For You, some of the Christmas and Spanish tracks).

If they did all that, it would be a pretty awesome collection, but then quickly rendered moot when the next album comes along and adds 5 more chart-toppers to it. That's always the problem with Greatest Hits collections from still-active artists.

All I really want, though, is for her to collaborate with Maroon 5 and record a duet with Justin Timberlake (also, duets with Steven Tyler, Michael Bublé, Britney Spears, Jennifer Hudson, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Kelly Clarkson could be cool).

Wow, that's a pretty comprehensive list there Aaron. I would've done the same, and I was going to, but I couldn't remember all of the singles from earlier on, so I scrapped it. Hmm, some might not be on there, like Lady Marmalade and Carwash, which could have rights issues with the motion pictures holders of the films, and the duets ones, like the Ricky Martin one, and Tell Me, which there could be some issues about. Otherwise a superb list. And yeah, I've always loved greatest hits, but then there's the thing about the active ones, as you said, that do more after it, and then render the Greatest Hits incomplete. That's always annoyed me. And all those duets sound really cool, the Britney (obviously), Mariah, Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson ones sound like potential chart toppers.
