According to the Disney Consumer Products website, Disney has CONFIRMED that Sleeping Beauty is planned for re-release on DVD in 2008 and will also be available on Blu-Ray for the first time ever.
The entertainment will continue as Sleeping Beauty is planned for re-release on DVD in 2008 and will be available on Blue Ray for the first time.
It is awesome that an old classic will be coming to Blu-ray.

Any other cover-freaks than me hoping the Blu-Ray covers look better for 2008??
Anyway, this is great news... They already have a lot of stuff from the SE and the restoration on the SE is pretty neat - so with just a little effort from Disney this could turn out to be a GREAT release...
I'm definately gonna get this... Even though Sleeping B. is not one of my childhood Disney movies I've grown to like it after seing it when it was first released on DVD...
Disney better keep everything from the second-disc (except the dumb kid games, who would actually want those? Though we'll probably get more games and cut out the really good stuff). Here's hoping that the don't do things in the PP style, and actually give us a 40-minute making-of. I'm excited because I only own this on VHS.

I need to get one too. I would be sooooo happy to see all films in HD, I mean I have an HD TV, now all I need is a player.
i also hope that most of the features will be carried over since i am one of the few who own the Sleeping Beuty SE from 2003 in perfect condition with A SLIPCOVER!! i knew escapy would get a kick out of that:) but even though i do own the SE i will pick up the PE since it is a PE lol

oh ya...i forgot about 101 dalmatians. can't wait till the PE line is over cause all the titles are costing me sooo much $$..lol...once all are released, since beauty and the beast and snow white are being released, are they (meaning disney) goin to release all of the PE titles or only the first 2 since DVDs were still relatively new back then?

I'll pass on this as I purchased it on DVD in 2003. It wasn't a Platinum release that year - it was a Special Edition release.
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.
I am still a little surprised that Sleeping Beauty is being released on Platinum Edition before Pinocchio, since the 2-disc special edition was released not that long ago. I happen to have that special edition, so I wish that Pinocchio would have come first. However, it is always nice, and exciting, to get confirmation on upcoming titles. Of course I will double dip because I do want to own all the Platinum Editions. I am already looking forward to seeing the beautiful new cover art. That is my favorite part!
That is why I'm afraid. I'm afraid Disney will port over most (if not all) of the 2003 DVD extras. Don't get me wrong, they're great, but I will definitley be buying the PE of SB because I want to own all of the PEs, and if the PE has all the SE's extras it would be kind of a waste of money.
Now this is news! I'll be picking up the Blu-Ray disc for sure, even if I don't own a Blu-Ray player by then. Fortunately, I'm thinking I'll have one in my home by the end of this year.
I'm actually quite sad to see that DVDs are coming to an end. They've had a good run, but I'm not looking forward to replacing my entire collection. Thank goodness Blu-Ray players still play DVDs because I'm sure it will take me a while to replace them all!
Sleeping Beauty is going to be the first Disney Animated movie on Blu- Ray. I already own the 2003 Sleeping Beauty SE on DVD. I might just upgrade to the Sleeping Beauty: PE don't think I'll be getting the Blu-Ray version. Snow White should have been the first Blu-Ray for Disney Animated movie.

Actually, "Chicken Little" is already available on Blu Ray, and "Meet The Robinsons" will be arriving on Blu Ray on October 23rd. But, it will be the first solely 2D Animated Disney movie on Blu Ray.
There's been a fair share of hugely disappointing news involving Disney on this site over the years, but this absolutely takes the cake.
Pinocchio is a thousand times better film than Sleeping Beauty. Can't believe we have to wait longer for it to come out when Sleeping Beauty already came out as really good 2-Disc set.
Would've preferred someting else was the first hand-drawn Blu-Ray feature.
Even if it were just a package film.
