Ha, your fave was Mel B? She wa always my least fave, no one I knew liked her either. My fave was both Posh and Mel C. I liked Emma too, and Geri was close behind her. I actually liked them more as a group than individually. I also watched half of my Live In Istanbul concert that I have on tape today, and also saw a lot of their clips and I was wondering was style of music they were going to do. I think they'll try and do something like they did with Holler, but I don't really know. What does everyone else think?

Why? She had a great voice, was beautiful, was stylish, and, c'mon... they called her "Scary Spice." That's respect, right there.

My least favorite was either Baby (a truly crappy identity) or Posh. C'mon. Posh was kind of boring. And she was the least talented of the singers. They only kept her, initially, because of her look and the identity they gave her.

Which reminds me... I said I can't believe Ginger/Geri was getting back together with the group. But now I really can't believe Victoria is! After all that paparazzi stuff and her famous husband and children (she has kids, right?)...

I was always surprised that Mel B never had a huge solo career. I thought for sure she would.

Well... her first real song / single was that "Word Up" cover for Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Not very strong. Some say you're only as good as your first impression.

Yeah I remember that song. It did suck. It's too bad she never got another chance.

I'm not saying that I hated Mel B, cause I didn't, but she just didn't appeal to me like the others. Maybe it's because she was marketed as scary and at that point, when I was 5 or whatever she probably scared me, and thus didn't really get into her. If the Spice Girls came out today and were new, I'd probably like her, but I just never really warmed to her. Yeah, guess its true, first impressions do count. I do like her, I think she's funny, and a great singer, and in the right clothes is quite stunning. She added some much needed flavour to the group. I remember she did a duet with Missy Elliot called I Want You Back or something, that wasn't very good either.

The song I remember the most from them is Wannabe.

"If you wanna be my lover,
You gotta get with my friends
And make it last forever -
Friendship never ends!
If you wanna be my lover
You have got to give!
Taking is too easy
But that's the way it is!

If you wanna be my lover -
You gotta, you gotta, you gotta, you gotta,
You gotta, you gotta, slam, slam, slam, slam,
Slam your body down and wind it all around.
Slam your body down and wind it all around.
Slam your body down and wind it all around.
Slam your body down;
Zigzag - yaaah!

If you wanna be my lover."

Teh, well, sorry. I certainly remember that song. ;}

You remember how you perceived popular culture at the age of 5? What were you, a kid or a robot? Are all kids today robots? Maybe it's not just you. That scares me.

Ha, yeah, I guess I am being a bit like a therapist on myself here, but I'm just remembering that Mel B never really appealed to me, and the way that they marketed her never made her likeable to me. But then again, I might've just not liked her. Period. Either way, I guess I am being somewhat like a robot, so I'll just say that I like them all evenly. :P  :)

I hope their new stuff doesn't sound like "Holler"...I mean, I don't dislike that song, but it's one of my least favorite Spice Girls songs...I'd much prefer something like all their other singles. Especially "Stop". I love that song...

Yeah, to me that "Holler" song sounded like they were trying to be Destiny's Child or something. It had a R&B vibe and it just didn't work for them.

Here are some more recent quotes of the girls-
Subsequently, on June 8, 2007, Melanie C was quoted saying: "I was always the one that was against getting back together, but now I'm up for it. Nothing has been agreed for definite, but a reunion will happen when the time is right. It would be completely nostalgic, playing all the old hits - there will be no new songs like Take That have done."

Victoria has also been quoted as saying the Spice Girls are indeed working on new material. "It's been so many years since I've done any singing it freaked me out. This mic was put in front of me and I was like 'woah'. It was surreal being back in [the studio]. I always said I wasn't ever going to sing again and I really didn't expect to. But once I got going it was fun. The new songs are a progression of the old Spice stuff - nothing radical and still poppy but a bit different. We are all impressed with them."
Phew, didn't really want anything too different to be released. And I actually liked Holler and Let Love Lead The Way. I'm watching the latter video for the first time ever, and I like how both Holler and LLLTW have continuity with the elements of the earth, air, fire and water in it. Really cool. Oh and did everyone know that the Spice Girls actually didn't like the Spice Up Your Life clip? I actually really enjoyed it (except for the fact that Emma didn't get to do anything extra, while the others got to DJ, be political, catwalk, and box people) but the Spices wanted it to be a carnival theme. Weird, huh?

And therein lies the problem with pop music today. Everyone is trying to be someone else. At least, that's the way they appeal to record companies. The only people who are making a success out of themselves by not copying someone else who's out already are people who already made a name for themselves with a band / group (Gwen, Fergie, Beyonce).

I like "Let Love Lead the Way"...As I said, I don't dislike "Holler", but it is such a departure from their other, poppier music.

Holler and Let Love Lead The Way were both really good songs. I liked that they tried something new for that album, even though without Geri it wasn't really the same. I'm excited to hear how this reunion pans out. I would like to hear some new music from them and see if the chemisty is still there. What is the point of a reunion if there won't be NEW music. Yes, I'm sure a tour is in order, but I am hoping for some new music as well, but please please please for the love of all things good and sacred, don't make a Spice World 2!!

Oh okay. Yeah, I kind of liked that they were trying something new. I like that kind of, as someone said, Destiny's Child-lite stuff. I hope that if they release some new stuff, it's between Holler, and Wannabe, because if they perfected a sound that's across between rnb and pop, then that would work for them, and would make their sound more popular, connecting the old fans, with the new fans (not that there's many of them). And true Laz, I never thought of the fact that the most popular artists nowadays- Gwen, Fergie and Beyonce- had all been in bands previously, and that helped make them popular.
Oh, and yeah, I also agree with Simba3. I want them to make some new music too, cause, yeah, as you said, what's the point. I think that an album of greatest hits, with about 5 or so new songs, is the best way to go, (with a CD and DVD!), and then having the tour centre around that album. I think a TV special would be good too (it'd get tons of ratings) and probably either Oprah or Parkinson would be the best ones to do it.
As you can see, I've thought about this way too much! Oh, and the tracklist should look something like this, in my opinion-
  • 1. Wannabe
    2. Say You'll Be There
    3. 2 Become 1
    4. Mama
    5. Who Do You Think You Are? (DVD should have the original and comic relief version both included)
    6. Spice Up Your Life
    7. Stop
    8. Too Much (DVD should have original video, ovbiously not the movie version included)
    9. Viva Forever
    10. Goodbye
    11. Holler
    12. Let Love Lead The Way
    13. Move Over (Generation X)- (Pepsi Song)
    14. Step To Me (Pepsi song)
    15-20 or so- New material
Also, the DVD should have the pepsi commercials, and the Impulse Spice commercials. Behind the scenes, interviews, and/or commentaries would be nice too. Anything else that I haven't thought of should also be included, but I doubt that this much will be anyway.

Ha, way too much time on this!

Very good suggestions, all, James.

I made a Spice Girls compilation CD myself. It didn't have "Mama," "Holler," "Let Love...," or the Pepsi songs. And in their place, I put quite a few of the girls' solo songs. Geri's "Look at Me," "Lift Me Up," "Bag It Up," and "Scream if You Want to Go Faster," Emma's "What Took You So Long," Mel C's "Northern Star," and Mel B's "Word Up."
