Fire at DisneyQuest

Post by Princess Stitch »

I just saw the photo and heard the news about the fire at DisneyQuest. Are all you CPers OK down there? Hopefully none of you were working there today :(

Here's my wishes that no one got hurt....

Any locals have more info?

(saw the photo on allearsnet)

Thanks for posting, Princess Stitch- that's horrible. There's only one channel right now with local news (soaps, etc. are on the others), and none of the news websites have mentioned this, and I've been on different search engines, and I can't find anything on it yet.

Yeah it's weird there's nothing on the news sites about it yet. I'm just going by this : http://www.allearsnet.com/

The smoke looks pretty serious. Hopefully it turns out to be nothing.

There's a discussion about the fire on another forum I found (Intercot), but there's only speculation (car crash, paving machine malfunction, DisneyQuest itself being on fire), but no one knows what the real cause is yet.

Sorry for posting the link to another forum, but this gives a little information, but it's still mostly speculation:

http://www.wdisneyw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59749

Could be cars that caught on fire. could be that a paver caught on fire

If I find anything else, I'll post it. Still nothing on the local news about this yet.

*edit* I found this, and it seems to have info from someone who was there:
http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=189237

"there were two cars that caught fire and exploded right in front of Cirque Du Soliel in the parking lot."
someone else said:
"They were using one of those machines that eats up the parking lot and repaves it and it causes ALOT of smoke. This morning one of the machines blew up. There is no fire at DQ or any of the shops, the only thing affected was the parking lot."

*edit*
At another foum, someone said that they were at Epcot at 11am & saw smoke from there, but the smoke went away after a few minutes.

I had not heard about Disney Quest's fire, but I've been hearing a lot of rumors of an accident last week on Kali River Rapids. I've even heard that there may have been two fatalities caused by a bridge collapsing on a raft. Does anybody know more?

Apparantly the fire was in a parking lot.
June 4, 2007 -- A car fire in the parking lot at Downtown Disney West Side created lots of smoke this morning, forcing several Downtown Disney shops to close. ALL EARS® friend Beth F. was on the scene and shared this photo while the fire was still burning. The fire was eventually contained and shops are operating now as normal.
The Kali thing was blown out of proportion too I think. People were saying there was blood all over the place and everything, but it didn't turn out to be that bad
WDWINFO.COM - (5/29 - 5pm) According to officials at Disney, 6 guests were sent to the hospital with minor injury after an accident on Kali River Rapids at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

The ride apparently experienced a minor malfunction that caused it stop unexpectedly. To complicate matters, it appears as though the emergency evacuation system failed to operate properly, causing one of the rafts to slide back, hitting another raft. 5 guests and 1 cast member sustained injuries and are being treated at area hospitals.

Earlier reports that a piece of machinery had fallen from a bridge over the attraction were incorrect.
I'm glad everything's ok, but these dramatic early reports get me worried now that I know people in Florida!

Thanks for clearing up both rumors, Princess Stitch.

The influence of Disney hyperbole has filtered down to the guests now. Just as every Disney attraction is the greatest ever, every little tiny mechanical accident or scraped knee at a Disney park is a horrible, bloody disaster with a huge death toll.

"Oh, dear, I broke a nail!"
"Oh, the humanity!!"

that's true Papi. they shouldn't close the ride for a day just because someone doesn't feel good aka nausea or vomiting  . they should only close a ride for real things like a crash or something.

A bit late but to help clear all the stories up with the truth, words from my roommate who works at DQ:

"A truck caught on fire when it was paving the parking lot. They opened DisneyQuest early so they could let people into the building and away from the smoke. The only place evacuated was the gift shop, nothing else closed, and the gift shop re-opened later that morning. For some reason, we also lost the cable on our break room's TV, so now there's awkward silence whenever anyone's taking a break."
