It's a built-up history, not just in this topic. But I don't remember him directing anything at Aurora, although I was under the impression that he hated all the "princess" films equally (except for TLM; it's *special*).

Personally, though, he just seems like the type to hate anything that general audiences seem to like, so his opinion's rarely meant anything to me anyway.

Gotta admit, before thursday I wasn't at all interested in this movie, but seeing the trailer before POTC:AWE made me do a total 360. It was absolutley hilarious. Enchanted has found its way onto my most anticipated films for the rest of the year.

You mean 180, 360 would mean your opinion wouldn't change. But getting back on topic, every time I see this movie's trailer I get more and more excited. I just hope it is good and makes allot of money because if it doesn't Disney may change their minds on making more 2D stuff. (even if The Princess and the Frog is still in production).

Enchanted

Post by Disney Duster »

First let me say Atlanticaunderthesea, I have not E-mailed you because I'm in college but still living at home and my mother has decided not to let me use the internet while I'm in school, except on weekends. I've been sneaking off to my school's computers when I can. I'll try to E-mail you when I can re-listen to the songs and remember what I thought about them.
atlanticaunderthesea wrote:I've watched the trailer again and again, and I am in love with this movie already!

But, the Classics clips still bother me. Looking at them again, they seem quite guy orintated (sp?). I know they are not specifically 'guy' movies, but i would not associate the clips they showed with a Princess film. And the one Princess clip they did show wasnt romantic etc. I really do wonder why they chose the clips they did.
At first I didn't understand why you would think the princess films are only for girls, since there are lots of boys on UD who love their magical adventures, but you meant that the marketing department was showing films they usually market to boys in front of a film they will market to girls, correct?

Because I read the intended audience was the female and dating crowd. But I also heard test audience men liked it just as much as women. Maybe they are trying to say this movie is for everyone, not just princess fans?

So anyway, my reaction: I LOVE the animation. I do recognize the art nouveau style now. The animation is so fluid! Perhaps the most fluid I've seen in a Disney movie! And did you see that unique angle for Giselle getting her crown? Did you see the pretty, super-stylized castle with what looked like green moss? And now that galaxy-looking vortex Giselle falls into looks pretty, unlike the really plain way it looked in the Movie Surfer clip.

Only one big problem with the animation. In one or two scenes, it looked like maybe there was a low number of frames. Especially where Prince Edward comes through the well and says, "Giselle, I will rescue you" or whatever. He's looking good, but he moves stiffly, not fluidly. I know I said this film looks to have the most fluid animation I've seen for Disney, but I meant it's the most fluid when there's the normal 24 frames, but it looks like they cut some corners and don't always have as many frames.

I know a lot of you would like the whole thing to be animated, but don't you like seeing a fairy tale in real life? Isn't that exciting? I know in reality it's CGI animation, but seeing fairy tale magic in real life special effects is so cool! The way the hag changed back to Narissa was so awesome!

And now I see why Narissa had that armored scaly look to her dress in pictures I've seen. Just like Maleficent's costume foreshadowed her dragon transformation, so does Narissa's. The dragon looks scaly and armored in just the same way. And I thought it looked like a fish tale...

Purin, I actually read on Jim Hill Media that Enchanted was a picture planned in the late 90's, and only now it got the right script, right directors, and right cast to make it a go. He said "Disney execs have been trying to get this film made since they first optioned Bill Kelly's screenplay back in September of 1997." And the poster below has been said to look like something from the 80's. I think there actually is something about nostalgia going on, if even the nostalgia of seeing great disney animation on the big screen again. Remember, the 80's and 90's were when Disney animation was good, then it fizzled and they put it to sleep in the 2000's. So now the trailer is giving us the nostalgia of seeing some clips of good films from those times.

Whether Disney is purposely marketing the nostalgia or everyone just feels this nostalgia, I don't know.

I saw the trailer last week and was going to comment on it, yet forgot. So, I'll do it now. This film looks pretty good. The animation is beautiful, and like Disney Duster, I love its fluidity (is that even a word? it is now... :p). The rest of the film also looks good, and I think the live action songs are going to be used by the previously animated ones thinking that it was a normal thing to do, perhaps eventually persuading the people in the real world to let things out with song. I agree that the clips used at the beginning do seem unusual for the film used. If they wanted to use stereotypically-regarded male films to appeal to men equally, it would be okay, as long as it had something linked to fantasy or legends. Personally, I would have definitely included Snow White, The Little Mermaid, Pinocchio and Cinderella scenes, possibly involving action to make it seem less girly or even unisex.

Well Wonderlicious, you can tell they are singing in those scenes where Giselle's in the greenish dress and there's those people getting married in Central Park.

But who wants to HEAR SOME MUSIC FROM THIS FILM?!

Click the link below, watch the whole thing. You will hear some music, and the lyrics: Everybody wants to live happily ever af-" which I'm guessing would be "happily ever after"

No Disney Duster, I didnt mean that Disney Princess movies are aimed for, and produced for girls. But what I was trying to say is that the Princess Line is aimed for girls. The dolls, clothes, bags, etc.

Young girls I thought would connect better to having images of Ariel, Cinderella, Aurora and such, rather than Lion King, Fantasia, Tarzan etc. in front of a much publizised new Princess movie. Thats just my opinion, and it doesnt mean that I'm correct though.

As it is a new 'Princess' movie, maybe they were trying to open it up to a wider audience in the teaser trailer by showing the clips they did. And I'm not saying Tarzan etc are guy movies either! They just have a male lead.

Does anyone see my point on this? Or am I just making no sense to anyone .. .. ?

Thanks for the music clip as well, but I'm not too keen on it! Sound quite odd, from what I could hear.

Do you think that Amy Adams singing voice will be dubbed? As she does start to sing in the park during the trailer, and that is her voice.

I know what you're saying, atlanticaunderthesea. Since there is so much Princess merchandise, which is aimed at girls, some people, especially little boys, may not be interested in the Princess stuff (even the movies, these days), so, by putting clips of non-"girlie" movies (in the eyes of the little boys), more people may be inclined to see "Enchanted".

Disney Duster, I fully agree with you when it comes to the fluidity of the animation. As you said, I do believe it is animatied at the full 24 frames per second, and the painstaking work pays off, as all the movement is silky smooth.

However, you are dead right in saying that the scene with the prince shooting up looks rather bad. I thought the exact same thing when I saw the trailer. Besides the frame rate, I think it might also be a case of "clumsy". "unrefined" animation.

One more thing. You mentioned that the vortex looked very bland in the Disney Movie Surfers clip. I noticed that aswell! Not only that, but some of the animation seems to have been changed, or refined. The witch pushing Giselle into the well is now more convincingly animated, and the witch's facial features sport more detail. I strongly believe that the animation we saw in the DMSC was unfinished animation. Though I can't understand why they'd scan the unfinished animation into the computer and present it for the DMSC, that's what seems to have happened. For more evidence, look at the witch at the beginning of the DMSC, when she appears to be talking to Giselle, and note that her movements are jerky, like she's missing a lot of animation frames. The animation we've just seen in the trailer is much smoother!

PS: I just emailed KRS Film Distributors Malta, to ask if they know when the film is going to be released in my country. I hope I get a reply. Living in Europe, you're never sure whether you might have to wait extra to see a movie. :( For all I know, Enchanted may be released here in 2008 instead of 2007.
