Musicals to Recommend
So my goals for this summer are to watch every episode of Mystery science theatre 3000 and watch/listen to as many musicals as I can (notice how those things do not relate to each other whatsoever). I need some recomendatios for what musicals to hear (besides Hairspray, Anthony). Hears what I have so far.
Phantom of the opera
Wicked
Les Miserables
The Producers
Beauty and the Beast
Oklahoma
Show boat
Hello, Dolly!
The king and I
Carousel
Funny Girl
My Fair Lady
Titanic
Chicago
The music Man
Sound of Music
(I also have seen West Side Story, the lion king and Cats but I don't really like those)

Oh, and Pippin is a cool show when Bob Fosse sexes it up. How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying is pretty good, but the movie cuts about half the songs, so maybe rent the movie but try to get a copy of the revival CD with Matthew Broderick, too.
I also must second My Fair Lady (get the Broadway cast if you can), Oliver! (both the movie and the 1994 London CDs are great).
Personally, from what I've heard of "The Pirate Queen", it's kind of like the musical equivalent of slowly bludgeoning yourself to death with a bat over the course of about three hours. But that's just me. I'm not a big fan of the composers. I loathe Miss Saigon, and I kinda dig Les Miserables, but the show has multiple problems. It has some good melodies, but it tends to use like the same five over and over for no good reason.
Also, here is my profile at CastAlbums.org. If you see anything you like, I'm always happy to share the Broadway love.[/url]

I can't think of anymore shows besides what everyone else here has already listed.

Crap, a thread on musicals emerges, and it has a bunch of replies before I even find it, so most of my absolute favorites have been named already. Here are some that haven't been, yet (note that these are film musicals I'm recommending, though some originated as Broadway musicals):
Meet Me in St. Louis
State Fair
Easter Parade
An American in Paris
Singin' in the Rain
A Star is Born (Judy Garland)
Guys and Dolls
Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella
Jesus Christ Superstar
The Wiz
De-Lovely

You already have 4 of Roger's and Hammerstein's on there. I'd suggest all the Roger's and Hammerstein's that were popular
State Fair
South Pacific
And some more
Grease
Grease 2
Rogers and Hemmerstein's Cinderella (1964)
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Fiddler on the Roof
Jesus Chrst Superstar
There could be more but it's getting late for me.

I saw The Producers touring show (which is exactly the same as the Broadway show) and it was fantastic! I would highly reccomend that you check it out if it comes to or anywhere near your city. However, if you're planning on watching any of these shows on Broadway, The Producers sadly closed their doors about a month ago. Very sad, indeed.

This is like that game from "Sesame Street"- Which item doesn't belong? You had a theme going...and then it just stopped. I thought that was funny. Continue with your musical suggestions!AwallaceUNC wrote:The Muppet Movie

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!
(I guess I should have been more specific about what musicals). I was looking for cast recordings/movie adaption of musicals, not original movie musicals (Although I have seen Singin' in the Rain, Easter Parade, the Muppet and Disney musicals etc.).
So from your suggestions so far, these are the musicals recommended:
Spamalot
Mamma Mia!
Jersey Boys
The Colour Purple
Tarzan (although I really dislike the movie)
Mary Poppins
Avenue Q
Rent
See what I wanna see
The Pirate Queen
The Woman in White
Sunset Blvd.
Annie
Sweeny Todd (coming to Toronto later this year, should I see it?)
Grease (another dislike)
Drowsy Chaperon
Wedding Singer
Little Women
Guys and Dolls
Camelot
Little Shop of Horrors
Godspell
Company (mentioned how many times SpringHeelJack?)
Evita
Nine
Hedwig and the angry Inch
Working
A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the fourm
Gypsy
Kiss of the Spider Woman
Cabaret
Chicago
Into the Woods
1776
A New Brain
Urinetown
Pippin
Oliver!
Hairspray
Rocky Horror Show
Shock Treatment
Cinderella (saw the 1997 TV movie)
Jesus Christ Superstar
The Wiz
De-Lovely
A Chorus Line (have the DVD never watched it)
Fiddler on the Roof
South Pacific
State Fair (realize it was movie first but I like the composers)
Dreamgirls (added because I didn't know if it was a broadway musical first or not)
Well that's quite a list (49 in all, I knew I asked the right forum
) anyone care to summarize that to a "Top Ten"? (just to make it a little bit easier)
