Sweet! I will most likely see this when it comes to NC or GA. I just need to remember to keep an eye open for when tickets go on sale.

Same here, I will need to keep an eye on the tickets and when they go on sale. It will probably be a while before they go on sale, the dates are still pretty far away. I will try to see the show in Tampa, FL. If anyone finds out when the tickets go on sale, please post it.AwallaceUNC wrote:Sweet! I will most likely see this when it comes to NC or GA. "Avenue Q" IS hilarious. Easily one of the funniest, sweetest, and most well-written shows I've ever seen. It very rightfully won the Tony for Best Show over "Wicked". I'm seeing it again in June.
"Ta ta ta taaaa! Look at me... I'm a snowman! I'm gonna go stand on someone's lawn if I don't get something to do around here pretty soon!"
Well, by this time next year, I'll have seen both shows and be able to agree or disagree.SpringHeelJack wrote:"Avenue Q" IS hilarious. Easily one of the funniest, sweetest, and most well-written shows I've ever seen. It very rightfully won the Tony for Best Show over "Wicked".

Which is weird because it usually comes to Toronto first on it's national tour (even though Toronto is not a US city). But I'm still excited, because I haven't seen it and that means that I'll have something theatrical to look forward to next year (Phantom of the Opera was this year).Anthony wrote:![]()
YES! Last stop Toronto! This is great news! I've been dying to see this show and now I can next summer!
Thanks for posting Simba3!
Also does anybody remember the reason why Wicked didn't get it's own permanent production in Toronto? The city hasn't had one of it's own since Hairspray and The Producers left in 2003 (or something like that).

I know that Wicked has had a permanent production in Chicago, Illinois. It has been there for a while now, and is still set to be there for a while as far as I know. Perhaps that is part of the reason it did not have a long engagement in Toronto.Flanger-Hanger wrote: Also does anybody remember the reason why Wicked didn't get it's own permanent production in Toronto? WHAT? The tickets are on sale already? Is that for all of the dates do you know? Is that the group tickets, or individuals?Anthony wrote: Well I raced to the Avenue Q website and purchased my tickets promptly.

I knew about Chicago, that why I was wondering because I forgot the reason why they did and Toronto didn't .

The company that distributes these broadway shows to Toronto is Mirvish. They, in their infinite wisdomFlanger-Hanger wrote:Also does anybody remember the reason why Wicked didn't get it's own permanent production in Toronto? I honestly don't know if tickets are on sale in every city. All I know is that they are available here in Toronto as a package with the 25th Putnam County Spelling Bee (among other shows, but those were the only two I was interested in)Simba3 wrote:WHAT? So much for Toronto being one of the top 3 cities in the world for theatre. I hope some extended engagements of traveling shows convince Mirvish otherwise (I do now remember the poor ticket sales for the Producers and Hairspray, I think it was because of the hole SARS scare). Although the Elgin theatre (where Avenue Q is playing) is not run by them.Anthony wrote:The company that distributes these broadway shows to Toronto is Mirvish. The city hasn't had one of it's own since Hairspray and The Producers left in 2003 (or something like that)., have decided, after giving long runs to Hairpsray, Phantom, The Producers, Lion King, among others, that Toronto isn't a big enough city to justify a permanent long running show. So now shows are forced with limited engagements when coming to our great city. Bummer, huh? Hopefully if overall ticket sales increase, things might change in the future.

You guys are so lucky! I used to live in England where there were plenty of permanent productions, but now live in Ireland where there aren't any at all. There's only one theatre in the country big enough to house a large production, so we have to wait for touring companies to make their way over here from England, and most of them don't.

Believe it or not, Toronto is still the 3rd biggest English speaking city with theatre productions, besides London and New York City.Flanger-Hanger wrote:So much for Toronto being one of the top 3 cities in the world for theatre.
You are correct. I believe it's DanceCap (?) that is bringing Avenue Q to Toronto.Flanger-Hanger wrote:Although the Elgin theatre (where Avenue Q is playing) is not run by them.

I got my tickets over the weekend for the "Avenue Q" tour, and I'm really excited. I will be seeing the show in Tampa on April 5th. I have listened to just a couple of the songs, because I want to save most of the excitement for the show. So far, from what I've heard, the music is really good and I think I am going to love the show. It seems like it is definitely my kind of humor. I'll post a review in April after I see the show. Can't wait!
