Re: action princesses
Yesterday, I was walking around Walmart, and I saw a blanket (or something similar, in its bag) with a princess on it. I knew it wasn't Disney, so I took a closer look...there is now a brand called ....are you ready?...kurtadisneyite wrote:Now that Shrek III offers us the Fairytale Five (5 princesses acting as action heros), the question is how much Disney Merchandising will be tempted to follows a similar path with its princesses.
SHREK PRINCESS.
The princess on that item of merchandise was Fiona, and I didn't see any merchandise with any other Shrek Princesses, but I didn't look hard. I don't think we need to be worrying about Disney copying Dreamworks on this one...I haven't seen "Shrek III", but I'm guessing that the princesses in that film are nothing like the Disney ones (sure, if there's a Sleeping Beauty, I'm sure she sleeps like Aurora does, but, duh). Talk about copycatting...

a little off topic but..
Marketing always changes images around to redefine a brand and create new appeal.
Witness the Disney Princesses: The BRASS KEY line of products had princesses drawn in a very simple, cutout style apperance. Some other products have the Princess as simple stylized outlines.
And we also have:
Baby Princesses
Child Princesses
Guitar Princesses (Gabriella, Ari, -- I forget Belle's name)
Flower princesses
Ballerina Princesses
....and a host of variations of the "Standard" Princesses.
What we don't have, yet, are "Action Princesses" (Princesses in daring physical activies, like canoe racing, rope swinging, horseback riding, sword swinging, etc.).
Also, no "Summer Princesses" (do we ever see them in summer outfits? Playing water sports? HAH !! Good luck to marketers trying to figure THAT angle out without playing up nasty little thoughts - the sole exception is Ariel, who's BORN for the water !! ).
Wrt Cindy, Cindy III did expand her personality and let her be an action hero towards the end. What little I have seen of the upcoming Aurora special suggests Aurora will also be more active (if not an action Princess).

here the shrek princesses dolls (pictures were taken from the shrek online store):Poody wrote:Yep, they're eving making crappy kids toys similar to Disney's Princesses. I saw a bug catching set with all the princesses line up and it said "Shrek Princesses"....
Cinderella:

Rapunzle:

Slepping Beauty (mybe i"ll buy that one):

Snow White:

i think they're pretty althougth i think the Disney parody gone way too far but the only that look exactly like the one in the movie in Rapuznle,Snow White and Cinderella has the same dresses as in the film but the hair is worng (they got long hair insted of short) and Sleeping Beauty has a blue dress insted of green.

I'm surprised to say that those dolls actually look nice. I really do like them, but yeah a little to far for Dreamworks Shrek. Anyway, I don't know it this is true but I heard that Shrek 4 will have Artie looking for a bride, and he sets on The Little Mermaid (I like to call her the fake Ariel). I think we all know the outcome of that plot.

Are we sure that the Enchanted Tales series will be a series? Read this:
http://animationguildblog.blogspot.com/ ... round.html
Disney's direct-to-video division has stopped work on more "Princess" featurettes, deciding they've got enough Princess inventory on the shelves to keep elementary school age girls happy.
I wonder what that means...I wonder how many short stories have already been made for the Enchanted Tales series...Hopefully at least one of each Princess to continue the series...

Not sure whether to believe it or not but one thing I'm sort of positive about is that they kinda promoted the Disney Enchanted tales series quite a bit for it to be canceled. I guess what they saying is those princess dvd that had sing along songs and other crappy stuff on it will be canceled.blackcauldron85 wrote:Are we sure that the Enchanted Tales series will be a series? yeah,Snow White and Cinderella has the same dresses but kong hair insted of short (mybe they were afraid of Disney's comment about this so they made them long hair insted) and Sleeping beauty and Rapunzle has same hair but different dresses (i have no idea why).atlanticaunderthesea wrote:They look nothing like their film counter parts though .. ..!
