Saw AWE yesterday, and it was as high as the expectations are.
some strange things to note: The Davy Jones Locker scene is VERY WEIRD, but fun, I think that those who hates Cannibal Island in DMC will hate this one too.
Calypso transformation may ba too much ( cf Sandman in the SP3 climax).
But as for the rest: pure entertainment !
SFX top notch, Barbossa rules, Chow Yun Fat could have a longer role, Keith Richards ROCKS (wait til you see Jack's mother ), the final battle scene is long enough to appreciate all the details, the ouverture is very dark (with the new theme song Hoist the colors - chilling!), the Singapoure battle at the beginning is a real blast (all hails to Jack the monkey!).
As for the end, without spoiling you, I'm sure there will be another movie with Sparrow, Barbossa etc... But as for Will & Elizabeth, their story has come to an end, full circle.
LOTS of surprises, can't tell you more, see it for yourself first.

Gone are the days of over-the-top and not-so-funny slapstick humor on the beach. Gone are the days of storylines that never seem to mesh. This Pirates film was determined to go back to its successful roots, and it succeeded! I will not spoil anyone with this review, but will briefly go over the film's strong and weak points:
The Positive -
* SFX have never been more impressive. The detail is astounding and left me breathless on multiple occassions. The whirpool scene is as impressive as the execs have described it. Kudos to the people behind the scenes.
* Acting has improved leaps and bounds. Some moments left me really hurting and feeling for the characters, something sorely lacking in the second Pirates outing.
* Barbosa is wicked. Enough said.
*Storylines come full circle, humor is as witty as the first's, and some very imaginative ideas are brought to life.
Negative -
* Questionable character decisions (can't say more without spoiling plot points).
* As tradition with the franchise, the movie is far too long, though oddly enough this movie warrants most of its running time.
* The rum joke is insanely overused at this point.
Not much else I can think of... Overall, ranks right up there with the original. Good popcorn fun. No, GREAT popcorn fun. 9.5/10
Ranking of the trilogy:
CotBP - 10/10
AWE - 9.5/10
DMC - 7.5/10

For those of you who are interested, here is the final scene of Pirates 3, after the end credits role. Obviously, it is a massive spoiler, so don't watch it if you don't want to be spoiled! And if you want to talk about it, write in white text, so others cant see.

saw it twice now.
liked it.
it was less humorous but felt more like return of the king (of pirates)
the special effect was excellent.
singapore did NOT have high mountainous terrains like in china!
the storyline can get a little confusing sometimes, even after the second viewing. its hard to guess jack's motives. but then you will notice the clues.
all in all it was excellent. i had fears it might fall into the serious, pompous, pretentious epic qualities of the star wars prequel but im happy to say it didnt! but i wont be begging for a fourth movie, altho i didnt want it to end! the characters have grown on me so much!
will and liz improved leaps n bounds.
i couldnt decide if i like barbossa or sparrow more!
though i have to say this is a very uneven trilogy in tone and style. i mean, the first movie couldve well stand on its own but then they added number two which makes the first movie seems miniscule and becomes a minor part in a big story and expanded the story so huge in the third movie that makes the first movie even more miniscule. that said, its still forgivable because they are fun. and the last scene is not lame as commented on youtube!
the endless surprises in store!!!!!! i love em! so unexpected!
spoiler:
the davey jones locker scene is a little weird, which takes some getting used to, like meeting the robinsons family. what is it with disney and weird scenes. but it was creative.... and we get to see johnny topless

Don't worry, it's not entirely that way. What akhenaten meant (I think) was that it was the biggest of the 3 in scope which was obvious from the trailers anyway. And I found there to be plenty of humor, though a lot of it is a lot more subtle and less in-your-face than Dead Man's Chest's humor.Timon/Pumbaa fan wrote:Well, that can't ever be good.akhenaten wrote: it was less humorous but felt more like return of the king (of pirates)

Ooh I got my ticket yesterday.. I will be seeing tonight at 9:30 p.m. I am so excited.. Apparently the local theater didnt want to show it at 8.. I figure after they get done with showing Shrek the Third at its 7:00 running time thats when they will be letting people in to see PIRATES!! I even bought a POTC t-shirt to wear.... The local theater is very small as it only has 3 movie screens..and upstairs is a small coffee shop
Yipee I am so glad that people are actually liking this .. At this point all of the reviews of Pirates seem to be overall positive and not mixed like Spider-man 3 and Shrek the Third...
Also I didnt watch the scene at end via You Tube because I was afraid it would ruin the movie for me... But Thanks for letting me know there is a scene at the end so that way I can watch it tonight at 9:30
