Okay let me start off by saying that this is the most excited I have been for a Disney movie in a very long time...let me stress VERY. This is our first taste of new Disney classic territory that will be elaborated on by "The Princess and the Frog" and by "Rapunzel".
I must say i am beyond happy with how it looks. Princess Giselle is beautiful and the animation looks superb. I cant really complain about the way any of it looked. Albeit the trailer makes the movie out to be a tad silly but it's a family friendly musical fantasy expect some of it to be silly.
All the shots of surandon as Narissa were excellent, the princes' gags were hilarious (james marsden is the best) , Giselle's "work song" is going to be awesome.
Now what bothers me isnt so much the trailer, but rather reactions on this board. I swear it amazes me. "I wish the classic disney clips were longer" "I wish we had characters singing" "why does it look goofy" "it's too bright to be WDFA"
GEEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS THE FIRST TEASER TRAILER! There will be many many many many more trailers! And are we forgeting that WDFA has not done 2D in a good couple of years i think with that respect it looks BEYOND what i couldve expected. Giselle already looks like she will fit perfectly into Disney Princess canon.
So much of what we all hope for is dependent on this film. Lets all try to be positive.
Bring on November!

Good point about the princes... then again, this prince seems to have a personality of being shallow. Then again, A. that could be the point altogether (what do princes do? They find princesses) and B. Trailers have a history of making a movie seem shallow
This could be a fun movie. I love a good fun romp in the movies. However... there have been a lot of movies in the past that go for fun and wind up being downright stupid to the point of insulting me as a viewer.
That dragon was cool XP

I was finally able to see the hi-def trailer, and all I can say is WOW, WOW, WOW. It was great the animation of the Disney Animated Classics in HD was fantastic. It was so rich, colorful, bright, and beautiful as if it were drawn yesterday. I can't wait for Disney to release their classics on Blu-Ray. I would have just loved to see Sleeping Beauty in this high quality. That movie will shine above all the all others on Blu-Ray.
Narsissa has stolen my heart. Wow will she be a great Villain. I love when you see her in the trailer transform from the hag back into her normal self. This looks like it will be a great film.
I noticed alot of refrences to Snow White. I read somewhere that before Disney cancelled their sequels they were planning a Snow White II, where the Evil Queen's sister Narsissa, swore revenge on Snow White and her prince. I wonder if Enchanted's Narsissa, since she borrows alot from the Evil Queen, is acatually the Evil Queen's sister, just she rules over her own fairytale and Giselle is Snow White's cousin. In the trailer Narsissa changes to the old hag, and offers Giselle an apple. That's just my two cents and I seem to be reading way to deep into this lol

It is in comparison to a lot of other Disney films. At this stage I think the 'new generation' of Disney animators were still figuring things out (there are exceptions, such as Eric Goldberg's Genie in Aladdin). It's not really until Pocahontas, Hercules etc that they come into their own, I think. Of course, they still aren't as good as the Nine Old Men or the 'old masters' like Tytla and Ferguson, but I would say that!Julian Carter wrote:Since when is BatB suddenly badly animated?
Narissa looks wonderful, both in her Susan Sarandon form and as her hag-like alter ego. I love the live action witch! It would appear her power is more akin to Maleficent's, though - she's sometimes surrounded by green magic, transforms into a dragon and appears to have a similar obsession with flames.

Movies like Pocahontas and Hercules do have a lot going for them stylistically, but the films before those had a lot more soul, I think. That's what really makes the difference: whether or not the movie can pull you in enough as a whole to ignore its faults. I'm curious as to what your criteria are (again, I'm not arguing; I love discussing animation so I'm very curious).MagicMirror wrote:It is in comparison to a lot of other Disney films. That's probably the issue with this movie, too. Will it be able to pull us in enough to forgive any shortcomings, or will we feel like we're just watching another movie that tries too hard to be funny and falls flat? Well, judging by the names involved, I assume the music won't be the trite and useless kind we hear in lesser movies (argh, I hate bubbly background music with no point).
I guess since we've seen a lot of Snow White references, along with a Sleeping Beauty and a Cinderella reference, this could be more making fun of "classic" Disney than modern pop culture Disney, which would give it a different flavor from films like Shrek. Of course... I think one of the main differences between Shrek and Shrek 2 was that Shrek was less pop culture-y and more fairy tale spoof...y (along with generalized making fun of Disney...y).
Maybe it's the poofy sleeves and the prince's hairstyle that have me thinking of something I've seen from the 80s/early 90s...

Oh yes, I quite agree with you that Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and so forth have a lot more soul than the likes of Pocahontas (which is actually one of my least favourites). I'm really only saying that the animation was better in the later films of the 90s - it was certainly not completely on model in The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, and the animation within these later films has a much better consistency and flow to it - it manages to be both character-y and designer-y in Hercules, for example, a definite step up from Mermaid.
When saying that today's animators are still probably no match for the animators of the past, I meant that I don't see as much creativity in today's Disney animation. Have we seen anything from the 'new generation' that could match Bill Tytla's Stromboli, Marc Davis' Cruella or Milt Kahl's Medusa? This could be because, while the early animators were basically learning for themselves as they went along, today's animators can just refer to a manual on animation, so it's much less personalised nowadays. Of course, it's just my opinion!
Of course, there are cases where 'off model' is a good thing, as is the case with, say, Bob Clampett. But that's a whole other matter!

In my opinion, it's fine for an animated film to occasionally go off model. It's when the animation becomes an eyesore in moments where you're looking right at a character that annoys me (ie: Ariel not having eye ducts as she cries). Of course, some characters look off-model in still frames, but are wonderful onscreen with fluid movement (Ursula and Genie are prime examples of this). So, like I said originally, it's sort of a personal thing (as it is with art in general).purin wrote:

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"
I've watched the trailer again and again, and I am in love with this movie already!
But, the Classics clips still bother me. Looking at them again, they seem quite guy orintated (sp?). I know they are not specifically 'guy' movies, but i would not associate the clips they showed with a Princess film. And the one Princess clip they did show wasnt romantic etc. I really do wonder why they chose the clips they did.
