I was still in shock of hearing S.Beauty being the Fall Platinum instead of Fantasia and Pinocchio. *double checks his post* you're right I accidently got caught in the moment of hearing the news, Pinocchio IS Fall 2009. I was hoping for 101 and Pinocchio too.

I think there is a good chance they'll kick off the Blu Ray releases of the animated classics with Sleeping Beauty next year. They've recently announced that there are no animated classics coming in 2007 on Blu Ray.

I kinda hope Snow White will be released the exact same way it was in 2001 since I missed out on it. I know it won't, but I can dream.

I don't know, if this proves to be true, Beauty and the Beast could get the Spring 2010 slot and push the Fantasia: Platinum Edition to Fall 2010.

Either way, it seems incredibly silly to me for Disney to start re-releasing Platinum Edition titles BEFORE all 14 titles have been released. However, my opinion may be a little biased since I do own all of the Platinum Edition titles already, and don't need play catch up.

Ugh.

I know a lot of people missed out on Snow White back in 2001 (I only have it cause I lucked out and found it for 5 bucks at a thrift store) but it should not be re-released as a platinum! That's not to say that it shouldn't be re-released, but giving it a second platinum edition takes away from the original, and from the collection as a whole as far as I'm concerned.

I wouldn't mind if a re-release came with the exact same features as the PE, just don't call it a Platinum Edition; that already exsists.

I'm still hoping for some sort of 70th Anniversary Edition that puts every Disney DVD release thus far to shame, but that's looking more and more unlikley.

I suspect we'll get:-

Oct/Nov 2008 - Sleeping Beauty

Feb/Mar 2009 - Pinocchio

Oct/Nov 2009 - Snow White

Feb/Mar 2010 - Fantasia

Oct/Nov 2010 - Beauty and the Beast

I think they'll take the opportunity to begin issuing Blu Ray discs of animated classics with Sleeping Beauty, which could really shine in hi-def.

This REALLY ticks me off! First, I was angered that Pinocchio was pushed back to make room for Sleeping Beauty (which was released only a few years ago!) and in a 2-Disk SE, with a great transfer and bonus features! Pinocchio on the other hand, has only had one 1-Disk LI/GC release with almost no bonus features and a fairly poor transfer. And NOW, Disney's moving Pinocchio aside AGAIN to make way for a rerelease of a Platinum that was released 8 years ago (to what will then be Pinocchio's 10 years) which will likely have almost no new features. Therefore, for us collectors or Disney fans who already have the SW Platinum, it would be a set not worth repurchasing.

Honestly, I think that Sleeping Beauty will likely be the first Platinum edition I will forego buying. I am perfectly happy with my SE. The same goes for Snow White. Neither films are favorites, and so it's not worth the money (to me anyway) to rebuy these films. Now, what REALLY iritates me is that I will have to wait an ENTIRE YEAR (from 101 Dalmatian's release to Pinocchio) between platinums since I won't be buying those 2 sets. That will be torture!

Well, I guess all I can do is hope that Disney changes their mind and decides to release Pinocchio after Sleeping Beauty or 101 Dalmatians. (Hey, Sleeping Beauty isn't really set in stone yet!). As of today, I will only be buying 3 (max: 4) more Platinum edition DVD's. 1- The Jungle Book (Oct. 2007), 2- 101 Dalmatians (Mar. 2008), Pinocchio (???). There is a very small chance I will buy the Fantasia PE, and that if it's truely and fully UNedited. But that's it. I'm not planning on buying (or rebuying) the Platinums after that. I just really hope Disney releases Pinocchio ASAP. I only have the VHS!!!

I'm sort of glad we're getting SB and SW  I missed my chance for the original releases. I belive SB will be the first blu-ray because there was a Blu-Ray-Disney ad that ran and Sleeping Beauty was mentioned and featured as a title to come to blu-ray. I didn't see anything about 101.

i hope the list goes like this:
fall 2008 Snow White since it would be a full 7 years for the re-release they plan and i also missed it.
spring 2009 Pinochio since everyone wants it out soon.
fall 2009 because of the 7 year re-release Beauty and the Beast would fill this slot and because i missed it on DVD.
spring 2010 Fantasia since it gives Sleeping Beauty more time between releases to be re-released.
fall 2010 Lion King 7 year re-release
spring 2011 Sleeping Beauty since it'll be the only one left on the list
fall 2011 Alladin 7 year re-release
spring 2012 Bambi 7 year re-release
fall 2012 Cinderella 7 year re-release with hopefully better features
spring 2013 LATT 7 year re-release
fall 2013 Little Mermaid 7 year re-release
spring 2014 PP 7 year re-release with hopefully some good features
fall 2014 Jungle Book 7 year re-release
spring 2015 101 7 year re-release

Yes folks, S.Beauty's and Pinocchio's release is set in stone, according to the cashier's info, Sleeping Beauty is settled for Fall 2008 Pinocchio will be set in Fall 2009. I'm as surpised as everybody bout S.W and S.Beauty re-released. I'll defintly buy Pinocchio/Fantasia. The cashier didn't metion anything bout Fantasia's release but she claims it'll mostly end up in the 2010 slot.

Oh, I wasn't saying I don't believe you or the cashier. I really do believe that that's what your cashier had been told by the WDC. However, I will not hold by breath on this news until we get some form of written comformation from a Walt Disney rep. such as Iger or from the Jungle Book PE insert. I'm really sorry, but if I remember right, Disney Store cashiers as well as Disney's Customer Service Reps. have been proven wrong in the past.

Little Merboy- I would have done that with Peter Pan as well, had I owned the SE. When I found out that the 2 versions had almost identical features, (minus deleted scenes and remake of Second Star) I figured I would just buy the Platinum and forego the SE. (I was planning on getting the SE before I found out about the Platinum release being around the corner). Just thought I'd let you know that I would have done the same thing.

Now that's pissed me off!! I hope it wasn't true....please tell me it wasn't true!

Snow White and Sleeping Beauty already received good restoration, transfer, and great amounts of extras but not Pinocchio. I'm 100% possitive that Pinocchio will be released in Fall 2008 before Sleeping Beauty and Snow White.

Oh well....I can wait 2 years. :P

I'm soo glad these are being re-released. When they came out, I wasn't into collecting them. Then, I saw my friend's, and I got massively jealous. But now they are being re-released, and I can add this awesome movies to my collection! I'm really happy.

Now, if I only had the money...
