I know you changed your statement in the post you made right after, but, I partially agree with you. He seemed to have a social conscience. He just took it a little too far. And if I could have, I would have replied with - "you have no enemies here. There's no reason to single black cauldron out." Because he wasn't just responding to Black Cauldron. If you were to read the top of that page again, you'd see what I thought I saw- PB was responding to the general love this film gets and trying to say that it's still painful for black people to look at.
And how would I know this? Because I'm gay. Don't pretend like I don't have to put up with my fair share of hateful entertainment directed at 'our people.' I often have to say to myself, "were the filmmakers
retarded when they let a character use a hateful slur against gay people, not thinking gay people might be watching?" It's because of things like that that people are allowed to keep having the wrong impressions about things. I have to try my darn hardest to look the other way and say that it's just Character Portrayals. That it's not necessarily someone trying to express a negative opinion themself. But in today's movies - there's no excuse for sexism, racism, homophobia, xenophobia, etc. Today's audiences have proved time and time again they're not mostly smart enough to handle it. But who's going to buy
this movie for a teenage movie fan who's never seen the film and doesn't know what it's about? To echo the sentiment of the poster back in that topic who said the film isn't likely to hurt the black community now, after all these years.
I am a little... miffed (is that a word? I heard someone use it recently) about his suspension.
If it was his first. I mean, why the heck now? And why on this topic?
As far as I can tell, he's the only black poster here (
if he isn't a white person posing as black for the sole purpose of stirring trouble). So, it seems to me, that it was a bit easy to suspend him for
this reason. Because he's the only black person here, he's not the kind of black person people casually enjoy being around, and because of the apprehension people here who support this film feel toward people who bash it or cry wrongdoing on its' behalf. So - yeah it's easy to suspend because of
this movie.
But I think it's important to remember what he was trying to say. For the same reason I agree with Black Cauldron about the film in question. No I haven't seen it. But I don't have to see it to agree that Black Cauldron was right about us needing to keep things around for historical reminders / significance. And I think, deep down, PB would agree too about that.
Besides - does this mean he wasn't suspended for using
direct insults like "pantywaist," "loser," etc (there
were more)?
That's worth only a warning? In that case - I think you're all "pantywaist losers!" Of course, if he was suspended for doing
that, I take it back promptly and immediately!
Of course, all that being said - I think he is getting really out of hand now with the Star Wars thread. And he needs to seriously calm down. And realize that we're not looking to be taught anything. If we make a mistake and he's going to try and correct it, he needs to understand that we have a right to turn down his help or advice.
