[Despite my love for 'em] Every single one of Lucas' Star Wars movies is about as silly as any of the Spiderman movies. They're good, fun, somewhat deep and meaningful popcorn flicks, nothing more. I find it absoloute ludacris to hear someone like Lucas make such bold comments.

If George Lucas were sitting infront of me and told me with a straight face he finds Spider-man 3 "silly"....

I think people forget is that Lucas was not trying to create controversity, he was simply explaining his opinions in a friendly matter, with someone who happened to be a reporter. He even "winked" which was implying he was joking.

And frankly, I have to agree with Lucas, aside from maybe Phantom Menace, Spider-Man 3 was far more silly than all 6 Star Wars films(the Holiday Special notwithstanding). Although, my problem with Spider-Man 3 was more with the story structure.

Say all the bad things you want about the silly Phantom Menace, but at least it had the specific direction into where it was going(even if it was one people didn't care for), Spider-Man 3 was very cluttered and didn't know where it was going. In addition with it's silliness(Sandman has got to have the lamest explanation to how he got his powers in superhero history), I thought Spider-Man 3 was a mess.

Woah...there's a thread going on at Superherohype.com where the forum members are posting things that didn't make it into the movie from various sources (the novelization, promo pics, trailer/tv shots and lines, on-set experiences and photos, and interviews). The thread is here:

Because practically every page contains new info on something not used (and the thread's a whopping 13 pages), I'll sum up some of the biggies:

* Norman appearing to Harry repeatedly throughout the film. The first time would've been after the opening of MJ's show when Peter approaches Harry at the limo. Harry would've started to believe what Peter had to say until Norman appeared in the limo's window saying it was all lies. Norman would've then later appeared to Harry in the mansion, with Harry asking him why he did all those horrible things as the Goblin. Norman would've persuaded Harry into thinking he was just a victim, with Harry believing him.

* Flint Marko (Sandman) visiting a doctor about his daughter. Flint demands to know how much it would cost to cure his daughter, but the doctor tells him that there's little-to-no chance she can be cured. Marko throws the doctor out a window and leaves, determined to find the funds needed.

* A few more bits of the symbiote stalking Peter before it finally engulfs him. MJ finds it on one of his sneakers, peels it off, and throws it in the trash. It slinks away into the closet, and causes shadows of Venom to haunt Peter in the night.

* A scene with Flint attempting a bank robbery and stealing a truck. A big action scene would've ensued with Sandman's sand filling up the truck so much that the accelerator goes out of control. Spider-Man would've saved various people in the truck's way.

* Black Spider-Man coming out in the daytime stopping criminals in ways more brutal than usual for him (this would've been where all the Black Spidey pics Peter took would've come from).

* Eddie visiting Gwen at her mansion after he's fired from the Daily Bugle. She insists that they're not a couple, and Eddie refuses to accept that until Gwen's father shows up and kicks him out. As a result of this edit, Eddie's prayer in church also got edited since he originally made references to this scene.

* Flint disguising himself as a sand castle in a playground so he can see his daughter. She goes and plays with the castle for a bit before leaving with her mother. Eddie Brock sees all this and approaches Sandman when he transforms into a human. This would explain why Eddie knows so much about Sandman's family and motives when he approaches him at night as Venom.

* Flint's daughter and wife appearing at the construction site during the climax. Penny urges him not to kill Peter and to just accept the fact that her disease is incurable. This is why in the final film, Sandman randomly disappears for five minutes during the battle, and suddenly returns all ashamed.

And these are just the significant bits. Apparently there was lots of little dialogue exchanges from existing scenes that got cut, resulting in about half an hour's worth of footage. We need a director's cut of this. Now.

This could be a Daredevil-type fix if what's being reported is true.

I realized there was stuff in the novelization missing from the movie, but I had forgotten some of it. I definitely can say a director's cut can improve an already great (in my mind, at least) movie.

Also, this weekend Spidey slung a web of $60 million dollars at the US boxoffice, a 60% drop from last weekend's massive haul. It currently stands at $242 million in the USA.

Maybe. Or maybe it could just be another case of a novelization being better than the source material due to various reasons. I think people who write the novels have a fair amount of leeway, being allowed to tweak dialogue etc. The only other case like this I can think of is in the novel of "Revenge of the Sith", which was not a bad movie, but had it been the novel filmed, it would have been great.

That's definitely something that crossed my mind, but the people in the thread I linked to provided promo pics and trailer/tv spot screencaps that prove the scenes I named were cut. I do think it's possible, though, that a lot of the little dialogue pieces people mentioned on the site (which I didn't bother to put in my post) were probably created for the novelization. Even if that's so, though, all of the scenes that have been confirmed to be filmed would definitely have helped the film's characterizations of the supporting roles (particularly Sandman).

Personally, I think they should have kept it a duology rather than try and shuffle out a third. I mean, no, we don't get much closure for everyone by the conclusion of the second film. But that's what would have made it so great. The fact that it gives a satisfying conclusion, while still having the audience wanting *more*. With the third film, it seems to be split now between "a great trilogy" or "two films followed by a disappointing third".

I'm still willing to give the third a chance, I just hope it doesn't suffer from the X3-isis that many have diagnosed it with already.

Well, I saw the film, and I disagree with this ridiculous ratbastard who has no idea what he is talking about. God, this guy is so off-base about the film it's as laughable as the film's middle-act!

Actually I Saw this Opening weekend and I thought it was good but could have been better but it was worth the money and I will be seeing it again tonight

Even though this film's gotten the worst reviews of the trilogy, I still loved it, and felt it simply needed another 20 minutes or so to breathe. While I really want an extended cut, that's probably not going to happen until Spider-Man 4 comes out, and I'm not waiting that long. I'll nab this and the buy the inevitable extended cut later (which should greatly improve the film considering about 30 minutes' worth of character moments were removed). I just wish Sony would release that version concurrently with this one. If they could do it with freaking Ghost Rider, why not Spidey?

Biggest disappointment in awhile... I might get the single disc, just to have the complete Trilogy. Not sure though.

The UK cover is a lot better than the US one in my opinion.

I will probably more than likely buy it when it comes out. It was not as bad as most people made it out to be but it was not as good as the first two.
