Man, you talk like I'm a criminal here. You talk like I committed a muder (case in point: destroying this thread). Look, I'm sorry. I really am. Now look, just hear me out before you flame me again: I'm truly sorry. I wasn't trying to be conceited. In fact, I never wanted to be conceited. It's just that I was blessed with a creative talent. And you're right, I am a VERY HARDCORE Disney fan. I guess I got a bit jealous of others here and I wanted to try and make something for myself, something that would make you proud. But I guess I got carried away and I overdid it and as an indirect result, everyone now hates me. Look, I didn't mean any harm. It's just that I'm an artist and I guess I'm like other artists in that I have an ego. I just wanted to make you happy, that's all. But it looks like I did the exact opposite. All I did was destroy the thread. I guess I wouldn't blame you if you wanted me unsubscribed and fired. Can you ever find it in your heart to forgive me? I'm guilty. Go ahead and execute my subscription of this page if that's what will make you happy.TheSequelofDisney wrote:Someone's conceited![]()
Really, I agree with Al. You are taking this whole DVD thread way to seriously. You act as if your sets are the best, except for Al's, but then you just go and steal his stuff anyway so it really doesn't matter.
Oh, and about the times for the sets. Wouldn't you like to know how long some of the features were? You wouldn't go and buy a 2-disc set (unless you are a HUGE fan of the movie) with only a few bonus features on the second disc that only last, all together, about 20 minutes, would you? It would seem pointless to not have the times*
*Well, except for the older days when this wasn't happening and a lot of different people participated. Now it's just a small few, and now it's really seeming to get old and tiresome, and maybe even boring.
I don't know if I'll be back to this thread. Everything, all of the discs, sound so correlative, and so repetitive that the overall point of this thread seems fruitless. This isn't any fun anymore, and, frankly, it's kinda your fault. Please, take no offense, and don't ask why, it's just you think you're the best, and this thread is supposed to be about fun, not conceitedness.

Are you kidding? I ALREADY pointed out the whole "design to production to enduring popularity", as well as the restoration blurb, and there's still quite a few more that I've avoided mentioning because I did not want to come off as being nitpicking or petty. But my god, don't outright lie and say you're using your own sets of words. I mean, I'm surprised T-SoD hasn't said anything about you constantly using his "The Effect of (insert movie title, any movie title)" featurette. "Disney Time Capsule: 19xx" is understandable, and yes, I'm guilty of that too. I don't even put much effort into many of them, most of the time I'm still trying to figure out how to properly set up my ideas for a Fantasia and Beauty and the Beast sets during what little time I still devote to them.

Mere examples. For instance, let's say I made a DVD called Doctor Gulley and the Dalmatians of Doom: Legacy Edition. It's a two-disc set, with the director's cut of the film, an audio commentary, a 90-minute documentary, and five specifically-titled featurettes unique towards certain aspects and characters in the film. Then let's say someone else posts their DVD called Happy the Dancing Elf of Phrooflington: Legendary Edition. And that's also a two-disc set which oh-so-conveniently also includes the director's cut, an audio commentary, a 90-minute documentary, and five broadly-titled featurettes that are supposed to be unique towards certain aspects and characters in the film. To someone whose seen the Doctor Gulley set, this Happy the Dancing Elf set seems eerily similar in every way except the name of the movie.BDF wrote:And who are this Doctor Gulley and Happy the Dancing Elf you speak of, anyway?
That's essentially my way of saying that most everything "created" in the thread these days are all just more-of-the-same with another name tagged on to it.
BDF wrote:Escapay wrote:
Oh give me a break. Not once in any of my posts do I actually say stuff like "when it gets released", "when the sets are released", and "I think I will release...". THAT is what I considered taking it too seriously. You're talking about it as if they are actually happening, as if you are the head of BVHE and you're telling us, "Oh, I'm gonna release this set on this date, so mark your calendars!". And that's a little disturbing to me.
But don't you think you're taking it seriously with running times? I never knew how you can actually do that.
No. Like T-SoD said, it's one of those things people are known to want to know about a DVD set. I just make sure it runs a reasonable amount of time that it's either informative enough without running too long (anything between 8-15 minutes), or if it's a bigger subject but not documentary worthy, a nice mini-doc in itself (15-45 minutes). Then anything I feel is documentary worth, gets above 45 minutes (I usually like to make sure main documentaries are 60 or 90 minutes). Also, I like to make sure if I do have a bonus disc, that I keep it in the ballpark of 200 minutes. I don't like going beyond it, but sometimes I end up in the 210/215 range, though I try not to go beyond 220. Runtimes are not that easy. Just make sure it adds up to a proper amount on disc.
BDF wrote:Besides, I'm not trying to set things in stone. You talk like these DVD ideas of mine are done deals and that they will be released for sure. I never said anything of the sort.
Again, are you kidding me?!? You use phrases like "when they are released" or anything similar, and in your descriptions, it's like you are talking as if they are a done deal. That's what's disturbing, because you're letting it get to your head, and it definitely can mislead any newcomers to the thread. Even PeterPanfan at one point thought the DVDs were real.
BDF wrote:And now that you mention it, I actually wish I were the head of BVHE. Man, the DVD ideas they'd see from me, what beauties. I wish I could make these DVDs up for a living, to be honest.
God help us.
BDF wrote:Escapay wrote:I said before I did *not* want to see plagiarism, and that was lifted verbatim from my Peter Pan set. Adding a phrase before and after it does not make it "different wording", nor does it not count as original. You can try and argue all you want that there's no other way to write a description about an attraction featurette, but I can already offer two alternatives: (which I am already using in future sets)
A featurette about the popular Fantasyland attraction(s) that was/were designed based on the film.
A featurette about various attractions found throughout Disney parks that owe their design and popularity to the film
Excuse me, but I don't remember being shown these before.
My first post back, I closed with this message, and I posted it in all my re-entered posts as well.
I hope I will not regret returning to this thread later on and that some people have learned their lesson. I hope that any future posts after mine will not contain anything remotely similar to descriptions and names for bonus features, packaging, banner names, etc. From now on, if any of my new descriptions or featurettes are copied and slightly modified for someone else's set, I will pull out once again, and simply ignore that user's messages on the boards. It's not my thread, but I'll ask Sequel to once again ask for it to be closed, to further prevent more acts of plagiarism.
BDF wrote:Why didn't you tell me about this LONG AGO? LONG BEFORE we had this discussion, hmm?
I DID.

We could have avoided this little riff if you'd merely stop using my descriptions.
BDF wrote:But now I will reuse one of the alternate options for the Pinocchio and Snow White rides on their respective DVDs, as those are the only ones with attractions that I have done.
Oh-ho, that's rich. I said I didn't want plagiarism, I pointed out two (of many many ways) to describe a featurette, and even said "which I am already using in future sets". Meaning it's my description. And you go ahead and say you're gonna use it yourself.
BDF wrote:All I got from you was different ways to do galleries.

It'd be just enough to satisfy our needs, and these days, it seems that all we do in this thread is disc overkill in terms of # of discs and amount of material per disc.
That said, I'm through with my more-than-three disc editions. It's honestly *not worth* my time to keep thinking of ways to stretch out making-of material to cover so many discs. Honestly, 10 discs for The Black Cauldron? It can be done, I'm sure, but who would really want to commit to that? And really, there's nothing *new* that I've created in any of my sets, as they are types of featurettes to be found on a Disney or non-Disney DVD. So what am I doing really? Well, I guess all I am doing is replacing that Doctor Gulley with Happy the Dancing Elf.
In the mean time, I'll shell out a couple more of my tongue-in-cheek "Family Fun!" Editions, whatever's left of my Legacy Collections (I still have quite a few that I simply never posted yet), then ge back to doing something more productive with my time.

AGAIN: I should NOT have to spell things out for you. I should not have to outline every single aspect of my DVDs and tell you how *not* to do it. That's not helping you and it's certainly not benefiting me. The whole point of this thread was to be creative, and you're basically saying to me that I'm supposed to tell you how to make sure your sets just look like mine but are worded differently. It's not arrogant of me, it's the hard truth. You asked me in previous pages of the thread how I get my ideas, and I told you. I look up vintage materials, I research different types of DVDs, I check out what interests me in what I'd like to see in DVD featurettes. Then I simply attach catchy names and write out descriptions that I want people to understand without getting to tech-y or listy. I tell you all this, and encourage you to do the same, when all you ever do is copy/paste the same thing over and over again and simply change a few names, and of course, the famous "Doctor Gulley" becomes "Happy the Dancing Elf"
Now, I'm guilty of name-changing too. But within my own materials, never from other people. My descriptions are nary lifted from anyone else's specs, and if anything, the only thing I copy are song titles, character names, and the same old gorram words over and over again for technical specs and types of material available in galleries.
BDF wrote:But anyways, I'm sorry. Honest, I am. Can't you find it in your heart to forgive me? It won't happen again, I promise. Please can't we be friends again?
You said you were sorry last time, you said you would change, that you wouldn't do it again. If you couldn't keep to it then, how am I supposed to believe in it now?
It's ridiculous, the whole thing. This whole gorram argument. I mean, in the cosmic sense of the entire universe, nobody gives a rat's ass whether or not a few words are "borrowed" from one person to another. But it means enough to me. If I wrote a poem called "The Sky is Blue", and someone else wrote the same thing but replaced "Blue" with "Green", I'd be pissed off. The same thing happens here, and however inconsequential it is to the world, it still affects me, and I do not like having to sit back and see the same-old same-old with Doctor Gulley suddenly becoming Happy the Dancing Elf.

PeterPanfan wrote:IF you truly think you're that good then why don't you try and send them to Disney.
Disney doesn't accept or read any unsolicited (aka sent by amateurs and not through a professional agent) ideas (and scripts, songs, movie proposals) for anything. It's due to the legalities. For instance, let's say I sent them in all my DVD specs I write in here. Then come October, we suddenly see something like "Beyond Backstage: The Production Archives" on The Jungle Book: Platinum Edition. And I was not aware of it until I put the disc into my DVD player and let it load. Since I've got proof that I devised the concept and sent the idea to them, but they never acknowledge it on the DVD (or tell me before hand), it's possible (but not likely) I could win a lawsuit against them.
Also, I wouldn't send in my stuff anyway since I'm a castmember. Any ideas I suggest to them in a formal position (like a letter or even non-chalantly telling it to a manager) would automatically become the intellectual property of the Walt Disney Company. A former castmember once sued Disney for introducing Disney Dollars (which he says he conceived/invented/suggested) in the early 80s, claiming/citing that they decided to utilize the concept after he left the company.

Man, you talk like I'm a criminal here. You talk like I committed a muder. Look, I'm sorry. I really am. Now look, just hear me out before you flame me for being untrustworthy again: I'm truly sorry. It's just that I was blessed with a creative talent. And TSoD is right, I am a VERY HARDCORE Disney fan. I'm guilty. Go ahead and execute my subscription of this page if that's what will make you happy.

Yes, there is no way, no how, you can send your ideas to Disney and expect it to accept them, not without an agent anyway. Believe me, if they took ideas from the general public, I would have sent them to them long ago. One question, though: Did Leonard Maltin use an agent when he created the Disney Treasures sets?Escapay wrote:Disney doesn't accept or read any unsolicited (aka sent by amateurs and not through a professional agent) ideas (and scripts, songs, movie proposals) for anything.PeterPanfan wrote:IF you truly think you're that good then why don't you try and send them to Disney.

Again, I shouldn't have to spell things out and/or refer you to everything. Heck, you're the one obsessed with keeping the list up-to-date, the least you could do is actually read other people's entries instead of just make a note that they made a Just-Perfect-For-Everyone Edition of Doctor Gulley and the Dalmatians of Doom. This is the Ultimate Disney DVD/Blu-Ray Thread. Give it a read once in awhile, you'll find some interesting and creative works by people besides me and T-SoD.

Then how can I come up with alternate descriptions? I'm a slow learner. Okay, here's a description that *I* came up with ALL BY MYSELF for the attraction: "A featurette about the film-based dark ride found at the various Disney parks worldwide, touching on the attraction's development and popularity." Or get a load of this new ORIGINAL (ORIGINAL!) description of the Restoration section: "New featurette describing and comparing the film in a before/after split-screen comparison, complete with explanations from the people behind the restoration in both video and audio to make the film look better than ever." Is that better? Huh? My head was hurting when I finally got the names. And it's still hurting right now.Escapay wrote:Yes. I had already said "which I am already using in future sets". Well, when I start developing a DVD, I want to be able to get some research done. And that means doing some research. And sometimes it makes me dizzy just thinking about it. That's how strenuous research is. That's partly why my DVDs are so "conceited" as you put so cruelly.
Then get over it already! I want to have you for a friend, but all you want to be to me is an enemy.BDF wrote:You are putting words in my mouth, I never said I don't have friends, that is your misconception.Escapay wrote:I guess your answer to this question will be the same as to my question above: "No, I don't have friends and I'm proud of it."
And what does that mean? That I'm making a big deal of nothing?!?Escapay wrote:You're making a mountain out of a molehill.BDF wrote:Are you saying that since you can't forgive me, we can only be mortal enemies from now on? That's the impression I'm getting, like I'm nothing but trouble.
So we AREN'T friends then, are we? So you admit we're enemies, don't you? I guess we better avoid each other like the plague at all costs from now on since we just can't be friends.Escapay wrote:You have friends at UD, I just can't consider myself one anymore.BDF wrote:I want to have friends on the website here.
BDF wrote:Why didn't you tell me about this DVD beforehand? I would have thought it was just another DVD unless someone told me otherwise.Escapay wrote:You want to see examples of how to write good UEs without making it look like clones of everything we've seen from the likes of me, you, and T-SoD? Check out netty's Something Wicked This Way Comes or T/P Fan's Walt Disney Treasures: UltimateDisney.com: The Ultimate Guide To Disney DVD (2007) .
Again, I'm a slow learner with Asperger's. Even people with a forum membership should be allowed some help. That's nothing like taking someone's hand, just using their own hand to point someone in the right direction. Or didn't you know that? Besides, I kinda boarded this DVD idea bandwagon a bit late, so you have to be reasonable with me. I'm sorry. You don't have to forgive me, but can't we still make up and be friends regardless, or would you prefer it if we were foes and get along as well as, say, a mongoose and a boa constrictor? I think we should at least make up and start anew.

Upon the request of Escapay, and my own feelings of how my thread is at the present time, I would like to close this thread until this fight blows over. As author of this thread, I hope that this would close promptly, though I know restraints of the moderators.

Well, I have hard feelings about this thread, too, but I want to put an end to the fighting right now. Didn't you say, "Until this fight blows over"? I want it to end right now and put this all behind us. What's the point of this fighting, anyway? What's it getting us? So, please, can't we just make up and forgive and forget? I want to bury the hatchet and make amends with each other and move on. I want to be able to post on the forums again.TheSequelofDisney wrote:Upon the request of Escapay, and my own feelings of how my thread is at the present time, I would like to close this thread until this fight blows over. BTW, if you lock this thread and don't accept my apology (or at least don't make up), I might open up my own thread on making custom DVDs, only this time, to ensure that no one makes the same mistakes that I make that Escapay finds so offensive (it's not like we're doing this for money, for Pete's sake!), I will first make out a list of guidelines on how to make said DVDs. And I will try and find some way to prevent the moderators from locking that thread, too. By having the guidelines put out, where this thread failed, mine will succeed. And I will try and arrange for the moderators to prevent TSoD from posting there.

You can't prevent a single person from posting. Either everyone posts, or no one posts at all.Big Disney Fan wrote:And I will try and arrange for the moderators to prevent TSoD from posting there.

Can't we just put this irrational fight behind us and start anew before you do anything hasty?TheSequelofDisney wrote:You can't prevent a single person from posting. But I have no idea how much an average DVD has, about two hours maybe; and that's certainly not enough to fill a big DVD. So I just avoid putting the time, because that would become a big factor.TheSequelofDisney wrote:Oh, and about the times for the sets. Wouldn't you like to know how long some of the features were? You wouldn't go and buy a 2-disc set (unless you are a HUGE fan of the movie) with only a few bonus features on the second disc that only last, all together, about 20 minutes, would you? It would seem pointless to not have the times*

Oh,because someone disagrees with you you have to start a whole new thread. I thought Escapy taught you a thing or two about copying people. Is "Aspergers" your excuse for everything? Also, that comment you made to Escapy about being mortal enemies...I don't ever recall him saying that he despises you...he just said that if you can't stop copying,he won't talk to you.

No, Asperger's isn't my excuse for everything. And the way Escapay spoke to me kinda hurt my feelings, regardless of how legitimate his words are. I'm just a VERY sensitive person. I'm just susceptible to people's harsh words. I don't care how legitimate those words are, they still kinda tread on personal territory. I've been like this for as long as I can remember. I'm just EXTREMELY sensitive to people's words. I hope you understand my feelings, PeterPanfan. I don't like to copy, either (and I understand it's not okay to copy), but when someone talks to me about that rather harshly, I take it a bit hard. I hope you understand, unlike some people. As for being taught a thing or two about copying people, I did understand not to copy, but I didn't understand that not copying includes not reusing so much as a smidgen of a vowel spoken by someone else. My, I had no idea that some people take things so seriously in this world. I'm sorry if I rattled some chains here, but the way some people "speak" to me, it's like I'm nothing but bad, like I'm just wasting space in someone's life. In case you didn't notice, I'm EXTREMELY sensitive. You can say that he doesn't despise me for copying him, but that's not how I see things. I'm just the hard feelings type, I guess. When something happens to me like this, I have a tendency to feel sorry for myself. You understand, don't you? I'm just a sensitive person.PeterPanfan wrote:Oh,because someone disagrees with you you have to start a whole new thread. I thought Escapy taught you a thing or two about copying people. I'm locking this thread at the request of the original poster. I might unlock it in a few days after everyone has cooled off, but at this point in time I'm not sure. It's a shame to see such a fun thread turn so ugly.TheSequelofDisney wrote: Please, I would like a moderator to lock up this thread, for good.
Do not start anymore of these threads.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: All right guys, I have let this thread cool off for a week, and I am now quietly reopening it. A word of caution for everyone, I will be watching this thread closely from now on. Any more personal attacks, bickering, or plagiarism after this post will result in the thread being locked permanently(no exceptions). I hope all those posting in this thread after this point, can show enough maturity to keep the thread open.
