Aren't R1 DVDs in NTSC format? You can't play R2 DVDs in a R1 player, though...for all of you who have/will buy this set, do you have R2 players or non-region players?
Yes they are, because North America and Canada have the NTSC format.

Japan also uses the NTSC format and Japan is R2.

If you are in the US and have a multi region player it'll play fine.

If you have an R2 player and a multi format TV (which 'most' are these days) you should be fine, but your colour settings may be a little out.

FWIW I have a multi region DVD player and a multi format telly. I've been buying movies from around the world for as long as I can remember (prior to DVD on LD).

No, just in Japan.

If Japan uses the NTSC format, why do they have a different region than the U.S.? Is it because they have different types of TVs than in the U.S.?

I only have regular R1 DVD players, and regular TVs.

Japan DOES use the NTSC format. Regional codes have nothing to do with broadcast standards.

I've tried Cinderella and it's the same menu design as disc 1 of the Platinum edition (with some Japanese).

I've yet to check 2 and 3.

Hope this helps.

PS I'll try them out soon.

Very unfortunately. I know of many fellow Americans who wish for the set to be more readily available. I don't understand why it isn't.
Heh. Just remembered that I watched Cinderella II late last night.

I just managed to compare the set to the other Cinderella editions I have.

Cinderella is disc 1 of the Platinum edition.

II is the same menu design as the SE of II.

III is the same menu design as the SE of III.

Oh, they have Japanese characters instead of English on the menu screens (obviously).

I hope this helps someone.

Oh, it helps me! I was thinking maybe if there was more to this set than a pretty cover and pretty discs, I would get it. But if it's the same old menus I've seen before...and in Japanese...

I must ask, do you know if the Special Edition Cinderella II menus are different from the first Cinderella II DVD's menus?

And since when was Cinderella III ever a Special Edition?!

The Cinderella II menus are the same as the Cinderella II SE menus.

But obviously with Japanese text.

As for Cinderella III, good point. It's the same as the 'regular' edition (with the extras etc.)

Thank you for clearing that up! Hmmm...now the only thing drawing me in is the artwork... For now I will pass. I don't think it's enough to ask my parents to get it for me. If I had enough money of my own that I wasn't saving for other things, then perhaps I would get it.

Thanks so much for helping me make my choice, Ste7ven!

But I wonder how long it'll be in print?!
