Mighty Morphin Power Ranger Season 1 box set 5/22/2007

Post by azul017 »

I know this is a non-R1 Disney DVD thread, I figure since Disney owns Power Rangers now, but here's the big news that have old-school PR fans (like me) drooling at the prospect of having complete season boxed sets, even though they're R2.

Foreign Media Group Germany has announced the DVD release of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Complete First Season. The 6-disc set will include all 60 episodes from the first season, and will retail for €29.99 ($40.91 in U.S. dollars). The audio will feature both the original English and German 2.0 stereo audio and runtime is 1300 minutes.

Extra features will include:

- Photo galleries
- A Message from the Power Rangers clips
- Jason David Frank in Germany
- Biographies and cast info (in German only)

The discs will be housed in 5 slimcases inside a regular slipcover, and s2 and s3 are tentavely scheduled for July and December releases, respectively.

Episodes:

Disc 1: Day of the Dumpster, High Five, Teamwork, A Pressing Engagement, Different Drum, Food Fight, Big Sisters, Switching Places, I, Eye Guy, Foul Play in the Sky
Disc 2: For Whom the Bell Trolls, Happy Birthday Zack, No Clowning Around, Power Ranger Punks, Peace, Love and Woe, Dark Warrior, Green With Evil Part 1, Green with Evil Part 2, Green With Evil Part 3, Green With Evil Part 4
Disc 3: Green With Evil Part 5, The Trouble With Shellshock, Itsy Bitsy Spider, The Spit Flower, Life's a Masquerade, Gung Ho!, Island of Illusion Part 1, Island of Illusion Part 2, Wheel of Misfortune, The Rockstar
Disc 4: Calamity Kimberly, A Star is Born, The Yolk's on You!, The Green Candle Part I, The Green Candle Part II, Birds of a Feather, Clean-Up Club, A Bad Reflection on You, Doomsday Part I, Doomsday Part II
Disc 5: A Pig Surprise, Something Fishy, Lions & Blizzards, Rita's Seed of Evil, To Flea or Not to Flee, Reign of the Jellyfish, Crystal of Nightmares, Plague of the Mantis, Return of an Old Friend Part I, Return of an Old Friend Part II
Disc 6: Grumble Bee, Two Heads are Better than One, Fowl Play, Trick or Treat, Second Chance, On Fins and Needles, Enter...The Lizzinator, Football Season, Mighty Morphin' Mutants, An Oyster Stew

Anyone here a fan of MMPR like I am, or am I the only one?

I think CD-WOW is a pretty safe bet. They usually stock new German releases and I think they deliver in Scotland. And they're cheap most of the time.

I know, that's my favorite season out of the bunch, right next to season 3 of MMPR. But if not enough people buy the sets before that, we won't see a PRIS complete boxed set release. :(

You can order it here, here or here.

If you have an Amazon account, it works for all of the Amazon international stores (including amazon.de). All you have to do is log in and re-enter your credit card information or bank account stuff when preordering. In fact, I would recommend preordering at amazon.de.

My copy is already preordered. :D

Well, Amazon.de accidentally has it listed as 4 DVDs. If you scroll down to "Kurzbeschreibung", it has the German listing of the 60 episodes on each disc. The disc number that has the episodes should be another indication of 6-disc set.

And I forgot that store that has the option of preorder MMPR s1 as well. Thanks for pointing that out.

Power Rangers Season Sets On DVD Now?

Post by Chernabog_Rocks »

While in my travels in google I came across this site, however due to little info I'm not sure how reliable this is.

http://www.ranger-retrocenter.com/

Apparently they're releasing the first season of Power Rangers in a Season Set. The 60 episodes will be on 6 discs with special features. What I'm wondering is, why just Region 2? Sorry if this doesn't belong here.

Huh, I wonder why the Search tool never brought up that thread, I think it hates me. I never would have thought of looking in International DVD since I never go into that area of the forum

don't punish Chernabog_Rocks for that since i don't look there either.

to thread starter: drop me a line for when it comes R1 please since i've been a fan since day 1 when i was 2. :D sadly i don't watch much of the newer seasons since if you miss one episode you miss all of them unlike the first couple seasons.

DisneyFreak1990, region-free DVD players can be found pretty cheaply in the open market. You also have to get an older TV so that the TV can show it properly. As for Disney officially announcing a R1 counterpart, there's little chance of that happening right now (although that could change). The R2 set, when converted into U.S. dollars, costs comparitively less than what Disney would probably price for a similar counterpart. And Disney would probably split the first season in two volumes and price each for $35.

I have the set now, and it's a far better effort than all of what Disney has invested in their meager volume sets of their Disney-produced PR shows (some of the volumes look horribly Photoshopped). The R2 set plays beautifully, and here are the spiffy details on it:

- Each disc gives you a choice of choosing either English or German menus (but the German menus house the extras)
- Each disc has a "play all" option and each episode is divided into 4 chapters (no subtitles or close-captions are available, though)
- No previews open the discs, just the German equivalent of an FBI warning and a brief opening for Company of Kids International before it prompts you to choose either English or German menus
- The main menu is animated with the main theme song playing in the background
- The outside slipcover is beautifully embossed, using the teaser art for "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" (minus the White Ranger, of course)
- Almost every episode has the original English audio (only "Green with Evil Part 1", "The Spit Flower" and "The Island of Illusion Part 1" are the exceptions)

Yes, that would work perfectly with R2 DVDs, considering they were made before the invention of DVD. Newer models are configured for showing video from only R1 DVDs (I forgot how they did this, but you should know about it if you decide on using a newer TV to play your imported DVDs).

Region-free DVD players are dirt-cheap now... in fact, if you got your DVD player really cheap it might be region-free. You'll have to check your DVD player manual to see if it is.

I have a Daewoo DVDS151 DVD player which I got for Christmas a few years ago (which I'm using to play my MMPR s1 set). I imagine those models don't cost more than $40 apiece, if you're looking for a reliable region free player. I also have a Lite-On DVD recorder, and I think that line is region-free also (but I'm not sure). The Lite-On set me back $124.88.

This list is a partial listing of what DVD players are coded region free and can play both PAL and NTSC formats. (Most of them are available in the U.S.) Here's a link in which you can look for cheap region free players on Amazon.com.

Or you can take the list of region-free players and shop around at stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. to see which store offers the lowest price on either model. I guarantee you'll find one in the $30-$40 range.
