Oh, but it is soooo perfect for a horror film! I can't believe it is taking so long for us to get an Alice horror film. Maybe I should work on the script I had in mind for such a long time. I also have an unwritten horror script for Peter Pan, ha.

I was thinking Tim Burton would be perfect for this movie, though he would probably make it a little too weird.

I think Disney's adaptations of famous fairy tales and classic books have become way too iconic to allow a remake. I don't think it will work.

Especially not with all the countless fairytales and brilliant books left unfilmed. I'd say it's time for Disney to concentrate on that.

Nicolas Cage and Todd Garner will produce "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," a live-action feature for Walt Disney Pictures.
Pic is a possible starring vehicle for Cage.

Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal ("Flicka," "Eragon") wrote the script, which takes its inspiration from the poem by Goethe in which an old sorcerer leaves his workshop, in the hands of his apprentice, who's not yet fully trained in magic. The apprentice gets a broomstick to do his chores for him but things get out of control when the broom takes over.

The tale was the basis for the sequence in Disney's animated classic "Fantasia."

Just thought I would points this out again to those that think these Disney Re-makes are getting out of hand...because your right at least in my humble opinion

Also I do believe there was 2 live action movies based of an original Disney Animated Classic...

101 Dalmatians and 102 Dalmatians starring Glen Close as Cruella Deville... Which I liked both.... That reminds me I still need to add 101 Dalmatians The live action version with Glen Close to my collection of dvd's.... I have 102 but not 101...

There was also a pretty good 1994 remake of The Jungle Book. Calling these remakes might be a little unfair, though. It seems like The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Aladdin, and Alice in Wonderland films will be separate book adaptations rather than live-action versions of their animated counterparts. I've never read the 101 Dalmatians book that Disney's animated version is based on, so I don't know what the live-action film is like in comparison to that. The Jungle Book film I mentioned doesn't resemble the book at all, and yet it doesn't resemble the animated film, either. It's its own separate entity. I think the same will happen with Sorcerer's Apprentice and Aladdin, especially considering how slim their original stories are. Alice, on the other hand, should be more of a book adaptation.

One good thing out of having this Alice film made (even if it sucks, which I hope it doesn't) is that Disney will probably want to promote the animated film alongside it for cross-promotional purposes. If that happens, that means we could be seeing a plethora of animated Alice merchandise released. The thought of actually seeing an Alice display at The Disney Store with exclusive merchandise makes me drool...Anyone got a napkin?

God, no. Please...just...no. That would be wrong on so many levels. I don't mind Cage in the National Treasure films, cause his awfulness is countered by the coolness of his co-stars. But just the mere thought of him bastardizing The Sorcerer's Apprentice...it does not sit well with me.

Personally, I feel a that book just not fit for horror. I wouldn't mind quirky, kinda like Time Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. That was quirky, sometimes a little creepy, but defintley not horrific.

P.S. That book is pretty dang confusing. Good, but confusing.

I always thought Disney should do live action movies of there animated classics like Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid(this one would be amazing) and Aladdin.

i'm actually excited about American Mcgee's Alice since that game was popular. but i hope that SMG does not play Alice because Alice is a teenager of 18 some years not a twenty some year. besides Sarah might ruin it. but a Disney live action remake would not be cool. the only live action Alice's i have seen are the hallmark one and the Disney tv show. i even read a chpter of the book, which my english teacher has, and it was a little hard to understand with all the 1800's english. it was hard enough to try to understand To Kill A Mockingbird which i hated and see why it's a banned book.

saw the movie version before and hated that too.

Ooh A live Action Alice? Sounds amazing.

Either a remake of Disney's classic or American McGee's Alice, I've always loved the different twists and renditions of Lewis Carroll's Novel Alice in Wonderland and Through the looking Glass

I think I'd prefer the Disney one though, since I grew up watching that one. I wonder who would make a good Alice though...besides Sarah Michelle Gellar...I hope she's not Alice..

YES FREAKING YES!!! I had hoped that when the rumors bubbled about Burton doing another film for Disney, it'd be the Alice one they've got on the pipelines. I never actually thought it'd happen, though, and for years (as in, like, a decade) I've said that he needed to do an Alice film. The 3-D aspect intrigues me since I figured it'd be a straight live-action film. Making it live-action with performance-capture CG (all in 3-D, no less) sounds like a good way to differentiate this version from past versions and get audiences to see it. I just hope Disney lets Burton be as surreal as he needs to do be. After Nightmare Before Christmas, I'm not worried about that, though. Can I hear another yes freaking yes?

You can get another enthusiastic yes freaking yes from me. There are two stories I've always wanted to see Burton adapt. One of these was Mervyn Peake's 'Gormenghast', but the other was, of course, 'Alice in Wonderland'!

I'm very disappointed, though, that performance capture will be used.

Yes, I agree with this fully. If Tim Burton were to use stop-motion or to make it completely as a live-action film, I would be fine. But the fact that motion-capture is being used is making me feel kinda hesitant about this film. I will still probably end up going to see it, though.
