I think this will be a mixed film. The book had a lot of talking in it. But I expect the climatic final chase and battle to be excellent. As I was reading it I thought how great it would be when filmed.

The Simpsons Movie
I don't expect much from this. Given how bad the TV show is these days, why does everyone think that they can be funny if they had a bigger budget and run length. Does that mean that they're not really trying with the TV series?
From what I've read of the early rough cut reviews, OOTP will be a condensed but very faithful adaptation. Most of the small stuff has been excised from the book (although we'll know for sure what has made the cut once the finished product hits theaters) and a couple of bits in the climax have been changed, but the prospect looks good. With another writer at the helm for the fifth film, he'll keep to the book more than Kloves did. (And the casting for Luna, Bellatrix and Umbridge are spot-on, particularly Helena Bonham Carter.)

And as for The Simpsons Movie, the script for that movie has 11 writers at the helm (including the show's co-creators and the current writing staff) so now that they got a working script I'm praying the decade-long wait will be worth it. The latest trailer was very funny, though.

Movies I'll definitely see:

Spider-Man 3
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Ratatouille
The Simpsons Movie

Movies I'm interested in:

28 Weeks Later
Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Pirates of the Caribbean 3
The Bourne Ultimatum
Rob Zombie's Halloween
Knocked Up

Movies I'll pass on:

Nancy Drew
Evan Almighty
Underdog
Ocean's 13
Shrek the 3rd
Hostel: Part II
Live Free or Die Hard
Surf's Up

Using the established star system, which for me translates to **** will see in theaters, *** will see in bargain theaters, ** will probably get the DVD out of the library... (half-stars leaving me in between)

4/27: <b>Kickin' It Old Skool</b> *** - I realize this is technically the last weekend in spring, but I'll still include it since I'll probably see it in the "summer." Premise, though familiar, looks fun and I enjoy some of Jamie Kennedy's comedy work.

5/4: <b>Spider-man 3</b> **** - Still have to see <i>Spider-Man 2</i> (which I bought a year or so ago), but as long as I enjoy it (and it sounds like I will), then I plan to see this soon. Actually planning to re-watch the original, then finally see <i>Spider-Man 2</i>, then see <i>Spider-Man 3</i>. Maybe one a week, beginning soon.

5/18: <b>Shrek the Third</b> *** - Thought the first and second were both fairly entertaining, but all the hype/money makes me take notice of the lack of originality and thus it is with some skepticism I will see this one.

5/25: <b>Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End</b> **** - I'm not sure where I stand on this series, after liking the first one (but on revisiting, not as much as everyone else seemed to), and liking the second one less. Obviously, this is one to see still, though my expectations are not as high as they were for the last one.

6/1: <b>Knocked Up</b> **½ - Hmm, let's see. I really like Judd Apatow's "Freaks and Geeks" and <i>Anchorman</i>. I also liked "Undeclared", <i>Kicking and Screaming</i>, and to a lesser degree, <i>Talladega Nights</i>. Didn't think much of <i>The 40 Year Old Virgin</i>. Saw the general-audiences trailer of this and thought, hmm, looks promising, neat to see several of the "Freaks and Geeks" cast members together and prominent. Then I saw the red screen R-rated trailer and realized, hmm, it's going for shock value like <i>40 Year Old Virgin</i>. Now, what will be a hard R in theaters will almost certainly be unrated for DVD -- so do I get this one a cheap theater viewing, settle for a fullscreen theatrical viewing on DVD, hope that a widescreen theatrical cut is released, or skip it altogether? Haven't yet decided, but the last possibility is the least likely.

6/8: <b>Ocean's 13</b> **½ - Like many people, I loved the first one. Had high hopes for the second one and it was, like many said, pretty awful. This one looks closer to the second one than the first, though the cast has commented otherwise. I'd like to see them rebound and still have interest in seeing this, though.

6/15: <b>Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer</b> ** - I've wanted to see the first one for some time, but not in the biggest rush, so both this and its predecessor will have to wait for a DVD viewing down the line.

6/22: <b>Evan Almighty</b> ** - Didn't see the first one, but I find Steve Carrell comedy a lot easier to take than Jim Carrey, so I'm more interested in this one. Still, the trailer looks more funny strange than funny ha-ha, so a DVD viewing of the both of them will probably suffice.

6/27: <b>Live Free or Die Hard</b> ** - Guess I'll see it at some point, having enjoyed the first and third movies, and the second to a lesser degree. Not expecting much.

6/29: <b>Ratatouille</b> **** - This has got to be the Pixar film I'm least interested in to date. Of course, whether I get really jazzed (<i>The Incredibles</i>, <i>Cars</i>, <i>Monsters, Inc.</i>) or not (<i>Finding Nemo</i>), I always leave very satisfied and I'm hoping that I will be pleased with this, even if the trailers are doing little for me.

7/4: <b>Transformers</b> ** - I still haven't seen the trailer for this, namely because it requires more work than I'm willing to give in. I think my days of considering myself a fan of Shia LaBeouf has passed and this is probably a movie for which fanboy hype will quickly fizzle. Still, I'm willing to give it a spin on DVD.

7/13: <b>Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix</b> **** - I've enjoyed all these movies. Growing with the character is fun and this will be the third one I see in theaters. Looking forward to it, knowing next to nothing about the book.

7/20: <b>I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry</b> ***½ - Adam Sandler rarely steers me wrong and "King of Queens" reruns have led me to consider Kevin James a capable companion. This could be funny.

7/27: <b>The Simpsons</b> ***½ - About ten years ago, this would have been really exciting. I feel like there are at least 150 episodes I haven't seen. But gladly this doesn't sound like it will require too much recent background viewing and supposedly it will be more like the early seasons of the show. We'll see.

8/3: <b>Underdog</b> - Well, I can't fairly assign a rating to this. It'd be a two-star probably but as long as there are critic screenings, I guess I'll see this and review it for the site. Expectations are pretty low - maybe I'll be surprised.

Man, that ended up being a long post. Eh, no one will read it in full anyway.

What I'll be watching this summer, most likely:

5/4 - Spider-Man 3 - I will probably see this one, but don't have my hopes up. Too many villains (Sandman, Venom, supposedly the New Goblin) plus a love triangle (Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson) leads me to think they're trying to cram in too much (X3, anyone?)

5/18 - Shrek the Third - Looks all right from the trailer, and I like the first two movies as well.

5/25 - Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - You know what they say... if you only see one movie this summer... this is it!

6/15 - Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer - thought the first movie was fun, actually looking forward to this one more than Spidey 3.

6/15 - Nancy Drew - Saw the trailer, and it looks like it might be a decent film.

6/27 Live Free or Die Hard - The first three were really good, looking forward to the fourth.

6/29 - Ratatouille - It's Pixar, so I'm there.

7/4 - Transformers - Curiousity, mostly. This is either going to be one of the biggest hits of the summer or a humongous train wreck of a film. Either way, should be entertaining to watch!

7/13 - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - HP 3 and 4 were pretty good, haven't read the book (only have read through 3) so the story will be all new, just like HP 4, which I enjoyed quite a bit.

8/3 - The Bourne Ultimatum - the first two films were excellent.

8/3 -Underdog - George of the Jungle and Inspector Gadget worked as live action films (don't get me started on the DTV sequels, though). So an Underdog film could actually work, I suppose. Sounds more intriguing than a Simpsons film, though, which I could stay at home and watch on tv for free if I had an interest.

I think you'll be pleased, Luke. So far, Pixar hasn't made a bad film, in my opinion. The new trailer has really made me anticipate this film!

You are so silly, Luke. Just to help you out, there is a link attached to my post, that will lead you to the trailer. Trust me, it won't make you work too hard, and I think it will excite you. The trailer excited me, at least.

I've been saying since around last August that this was shaping up to be on of the best Summer Movie Season's in a long time. With that said, the must-sees are in green, the likely-will-see-in-the-theaters are in blue and the avoid-at-all-costs are in red, with the undecideds in normal default.

MAY -

4: Spider Man 3 Having already read the official novelization, the story is definitely the best in an already spectacular series. It downplays the action a little bit, and throws the emotions to phase 4. Still, fans and average-joe moviegoers should find this one will be repeat viewings.

Lucky You The long-delayed film, director Curtis Hanson's (L.A. Confidential, 8 Mile, In Her Shoes) latest, has intrigued me for a long time. It will probably get destroyed in theaters (smart thinking for May 4, Warner  ), but I will make a great effort to definitely catch this one either in dollar theaters or rent on DVD.

18: Shrek the Third My word, this really looks terrible. You can tell the success is going to the writer's heads; each film carries more flatulence and even less plot. Probably one of a few surprising bombs this summer, I will most likely pass on this one until DVD unless forced to see it by my friends, which will most likely happen.

25: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Yo ho, yo ho, a midnight's show for me. :P Honestly, this is the only film I look forward to this summer more than Spider Man, and I've been waiting for Spidey since July 2004. Already have most of my night planned out for this one, just waiting for the tickets to go on sale. And the green I put the title in has two different meanings (in other words, Titanic, move over). ;)

JUNE -

1: Knocked Up I was one of the few who didn't miss Wedding Crashers and couldn't care less about The 40-Year Old Virgin in theaters. I ended up eventually renting it and was pleasently surprised by it. That said, the trailers for Knocked look similar to those for Virgin, so I might see it, and I might not. One big plus: Izzie's in it! One minus: She's said woman referred to as Knocked Up, with that hairy guy from Virgin and You, Me and Dupree doing the male part of the eqaution.

8: Ocean's Thirteen This looks so much better than the massively dissapointing Twelve. I'm really hoping Al Pacino and Ellen Barkin's presence (as well as a major lack of Catherine Zeta-Jones) will lift this one back up to Eleven's standards. No matter what, I'm all in on this one.

Surf's Up I am really getting sick and tired of penguins, and this looks like the stupid thing they've been in yet. I laugh every time the trailer make mention that it's "Inspired by a true story", and unless this pulls a Chicken Run and gets excellent reviews, I will avoid this one.

Hostel: Part II Part one already had me upchucking my lunch, and the fact that this will open against Ocean's Thirteen and will have to stave off holdovers from Spidey, Shrek and Pirates, I doubt the teen crowd will go for it either. Pass.

15: Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer The first one was one of the most fun films of 2005, and this looks to hold up just as well. My wallet will be on a very short leash this summer, however, and this may wait for DVD. Hopefully, a dollar theater viewing will be attainable around August, or maybe one of my friend's can spring for me.

22: Evan Almighty Bruce Almighty is among my favorite comedies of the past decade, and I love me some Steve Carrell, plus supporting players Morgan Freeman, Wanda Sykes, John Goodman, Lauren Graham and John Michael Higgins are always fun to watch.... So why haven't the trailers really grabbed me yet? It looks cute, but... these days, is cute really such a good thing? Hopefully I'll be proven wrong and will laugh through this one as much I did at Bruce.

27: Live Free or Die Hard YIPPEE-KAY-YAY, MOTHERF*****! One of the best action franchises of all time gets a fourth installment, and hopefully the role of normally boyish Justin Long won't cramp Bruce's wacko John McClane syle. Please, just don't go all out Terminator on me.

29: Ratatouille Much like Luke, the ad campaign for this one has left me less than hooked, but Pixar hasn't failed yet and I doubt they'll start now. I guess you can say I'm already waiting in line for this one.

Mama's Boy No, this has nothing to do with the moronice Grandma's Boy from January 2006, on the contrary; this is Jon Heder's first return to indie comedy since Nappy D. With a director I've never heard of, and a cast of others including the usually stunning Diane Keaton, Jeff Daniels and Anna Faris, I have high hopes for this one and will bet the over-the-top hijinks of The Benchwarmers and Blades of Glory will be left behind for more down to earth heartfelt comedy. But, with two other movies I'm already commited to the same weekend, this may get lost in the shuffle for me.

JULY -

4: Transformers Eh.... I really don't know about this one. Having never been a fan of the cartoons, the idea of Optimus Prime on a big screen isn't that exciting for me. But I do like me some Micheal Bay, no matter how schlocky it gets, the action's always worth it. Label this as a maybe.

License to Wed I'm sure most of you haven't heard of this, so here's the plot summary from IMDb - "A marriage counselor (Robin Williams) puts one couple (deadpan master John Krasinski, hit-or-miss Mandy Moore) through a series of relationship challenges during a the most grueling marriage preparation course ever. " Directed by Ken Kwapis, frequent director of episodes for The Office, this one kind of intrigues me. Having just recently finally warmed up to Office, this may be a worthwhile light romcom in the midst of the usual shoot-em-ups and over-budgeted-blockbusters summer movie season always has to offer.

13: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix I've never missed a Potter film during opening week, and I don't intend to start now. Looks great, can't wait for it (and book number 7) to finally arrive.

20: I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry It should be fun to watch Adam Sandler and Kevin James squirm as a faux gay couple, and with Jessica Biel trapsing around in that bikini (mmm.... :D), this one should definitely be worth it.

Hairspray Aside from the fact that it's a musical comedy, there are only four words needed to get me to see this movie: John Travolta... :x in drag. All I hope is soon we'll get a trailer that actually shows us something.

27: The Simpsons Movie The trailers for this so far have left me giggling, but one of America's funniest shows in history has been incredibly weak in the past few years. Et tu, Homer?

Well, right now I'm tired and want some shuteye. Finish this tomorrow.

Thank you. The Yahoo address put me off because I can't stand when sites have exclusive trailers and make you download proprietary save-preventing software or sit through commercials beforehand to view what is essentially a long commercial. (I don't say that as a bad thing, for I love trailers and think all DVDs should include them.) Anything that's not an Apple, Hogi Bear, or official website link puts me off. But that was actually quite painless.

As for the trailer itself, <i>Transformers</i> remains a two-star for me. Maybe that was only the action angle being promoted, but it didn't do much to interest me. But still, definitely a DVD viewing at some point. Thanks again.

You are very welcome. I tend not to visit sites that require you to download their software just to view a movie trailer. Not when you can watch them, without downloading anything, at many other sites.

I have seen some new screenshots of Transformers that have really excited me, even more than I already am, for this movie. I am quite sure it will be action packed. Whether you see it in theaters, or, you rent it on DVD, I do hope you'll enjoy it. I am hoping I'll enjoy it, when I go to the theater to see it!

Movies I will see:

Spiderman 3 : yes, this looks great. I hope they won't overdo it with the villains, but it looks like a great film. I liked the firts two as well so I'll like this one.

Pirates of the Caribbean : At World's End: I really hope this has the ability to answer all the questions that DMC gave us. If it can do that and give us a satisfying ending I'd be happy. But I love these characters anyway, so I'll probaply love the film too.

Knocked Up : I really enjoyed 40 year old virgin. I hope this will be another great old school comedy.

Ratatouille: I have faith in Pixar. I have yet to dislike a Pixar film. This looks like good fun.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix : well David Yates will direct the next one as well so he must have done a fine job directing OotP. Looking forward to this one a lot.

Movies I will not see:

everything else. yes. Some of these films I have gotten sick of even before having seen them.

Shrek the Third. This one looks even worse than 2. downward spiral will continue. The trailer was so incredibly awful and cringeworthy. I saw it in theaters a few weeks ago and everybody completely cracked up at the part where puss repeats his sad eyes gag. people were screaming. It's so sad to see commercial american animation reduced to this. Justin Timberlake? please.

And then there's Ocean's 13. Gettin sick of weird, artsy fartsy, camera shots of Matt Damon, George Clooney and Brad Pitt standing around tables with their hands in their pockets talking about money. Ocean's Enough.

and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Also not looking forward to the Simpsons, since the show is hardly entertaining anymore. Transformers... when has Michael Bay made a good film?... I mean... has he ever? Hairspray? ew. Fantastic Four 2? uhm, first one sucked? Hostel Part 2? ditto. Bourne Ultimatum? looks like it will also suffer from shaky camera syndrome like the last one. Surf's Up? this has The Wild/Shark Tale written all over it. Been there done that.

The only ones that I'm looking forward to are:

"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End"
Excited for this one, should be a great wrap up.

"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"
Quite excited for this. Best of the summer! :D

I'm actually really excited for this one, simply because I LOVE John Krasinski, and am so psyched to see him get a real movie role now - I'm glad that the success of the Office is allowing him to do that. Plus, I like Mandy Moore, and it looks super cute. I don't think it'll be a huge blockbuster or anything but it looks like fluffy fun.

Other Summer Movies I Must See, really well for me it just boils down to Pirates 3, Ratatouille and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Those are the three that I *have* to see, and anything else is just extra. I'm sure that I will see Spiderman, and probably Transformers, but I'm not dying of excitment to check either one out, and will probably only see them because my friends are going.
