The Virginia Tech Massacre..

Post by bambifan56 »

Please pray for all those in Blackburg, VA for what happened today on the Campus of Virginia Tech, for it's a day that may turn out to be bigger than Columbine, and 33 people lost their lives. My thoughts and prayers go to the familys and students of VTU

This whole situation makes me sad beyond words...I went to UVa, and Tech was always, well, kind of our sibling, in a sense, as well as our most heated rival, and knowing how all of Blacksburg must be suffering tonight breaks my heart.

I'm moving to Virginia in the autumn. My friends heard about the massacre and started panicking for my sake.

So...

Of course I'll be praying for them. What happened was terrifying.

What's crazy is that the killer killed 33 people and injured 22 with only hand guns. no rifle or machine guns. He must of had good skills to pull that off.

It really hits everyone going to school because you can't help to think "what if your school is next." It seems these attacks are pretty random but once again there were warning signs that this was going to happen and nothing was done. They said that they were receiving bomb threats weeks prior to the attack and what's really shocking is the gunman roamed the campus for 2 hours after his first attack and there was no police.

It's really sad and my thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost there love ones. Very sad indeed.

I heard about this yesterday evening. Events like these are truly terrible.
Not that it matters, but does anyone know what the reasoning behind the shooting was?

I think the same thing. After Columbine, I knew that there'd be copycats, and that happened. I just checked my school's website (you can't be too sure). It's just so scary. I had heard in the morning that one person had died and one was injured, and it wasn't until I went to bed that my husband told me just how many were hurt or killed. I feel so bad for the families and friends of those people.

Another one?

Jesus Christ!

By the way, yeah I'd like to echo the sentiments of another poster who was wondering what the details of the situation were. Like... how old the shooter was and all that?

I guess I'll try looking it up later.

Okay... on my Google Search for news items... All I was able to turn up, at first, was a story about a guy who just shot 2 people and disappeared. William Morva or whatever. And there was a manhunt. I don't know when that story was dated.

Then I tried something with the number 33 and found this:

http://www.gothamist.com/2007/04/16/32_killed_in_vi.php

But almost nothing else. Except something about a shooter getting 21 people. So... something about this whole thing seems really fishy. That link is also to a BLOG, so I can't confirm if any of it is actually true. Perhaps later today, some more news outlets will have a report on the incident.

I promise.

I can't believe this one girl I know. She's Asian, and she keeps saying, "I'm glad the student that did it was Asian. It breaks the stereotype that Asian people never do anything wrong." What?!

Thanks for making the promise, really appericate it. Talk about sterotypes being less tasteful nowadays, would've given that student a piece of mine, I was surprised when the death toll went up and now I'm researching the Colmbine shooting (Haven't heard anything bout it) but this is just sick....yet unforgiveable too.

Yes this indeed a sad day. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends who were involved.

Also here is the info I just read on www.yahoo.com news
BLACKSBURG, Va. - A Virginia Tech senior from South Korea was behind the massacre of at least 30 people locked inside a campus building in the deadliest shooting rampage in modern U.S. history, the university said Tuesday.

The Virginia Tech Police Department identified him as Cho Seung-Hui, 23, a senior in the English department.

The bloodbath ended with the gunman's suicide, bringing the death toll from two separate shootings — first at a dorm, then in a classroom building — to 33 and stamping the campus in the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains with unspeakable tragedy.

why the hell do morons like him have guns? seriously?

this just makes me angry. It's time for the government to ban guns. How much more evidence do they need? what are they waiting for? untill shool shootings become a daily routine?

Because he could? I mean, he killed himself, so if you're in that frame of mind, why not "reason" its OK to take others with you?

I hear the 1st shooting was domestic, perhaps his girlfriend. He probably shot first in anger, was in denial about what he had done for an hour or so, and then panicked and realised he was going down. In that frame of mind, anything seems logical I guess.

The police say there was no motive behind it. He just went in there with two pistols killed 32 people and himself.
