In a public forum, EVERYBODY'S involved. You can't have private conversations in a public forum and not expect everyone else to notice it.

Well, this thread I think has run its course. I think the original issue has been addressed and answered.

I want to remind people again that PERSONAL ATTACKS are not welcome on this forum, which Luke and the other moderators strive to keep as a pleasent and enjoyable experience for members and visitors.

Personal attacks not only result in forum privileges being revocked, but do nothing to support any point or issue you may be trying to make.

It disappoints me the way this thread disintegrated so quickly. As 2099net points out, personal attacks are, along with spam, just about the only activity that's not permitted here. I can't fathom why it is so hard to resist this. As Netty said, not only do they break rules and potentially result in punishment, they add nothing to the debate and do not reflect favorably on yourself.

Another thing that isn't necessary is forum members taking it upon themselves to moderate one another. While a simple reminder of the rules at UD is fine -- saving myself or one of the other mods from doing the same thing -- it's just as effective to send a single e-mail to myself or any of the other moderators who show their e-mail address in their profile. If necessary, we'll step in. Likewise, it's not right to attack one another for overstepping bounds as a forum member. Attacks are met with attacks; we've seen this many times. It's unfortunate but true.

Those who take bait from another member quickly become as guilty as the one who is baiting. Let's avoid this ugly cycle from occurring again anytime soon.
