Billy Ray Cyrus should play Davy Crockett!

Post by Disneybuff1975 »

I think he would be perfect. He looks the part, he is from Kentucky, and he works for Disney in Hannah Montana. Disney, cast Cyrus as Crockett!

What kind of venue are we talking? A big screen film? A new musical miniseries? Disney Channel interstitials?

I don't think Disney should re-launch the Crockett franchise. It's great as is. And I loathe everything about the show "Hannah Montana." Something about it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, so I deffinatley don't want someone from that show reviving something I love, no matter who he was before the show existed.
I'm currently watching and reviewing every Disney film in chronological order. You can follow along at my blog, The Disney Films, and also follow me on Twitter.

1. Why remake the Crockett stories? Nobody went to go see Billy Bob's Davy in The Alamo (well, I did, but not too many others did). Is there a demand for a Crockett remake?
2. Why Cyrus? He's only popular to the Branson, Missouri crowd, at best.
3. Would Davy Crockett wear a mullet and tight jeans and shake his butt for the ladies?

This idea = limburger cheese.

I'll admit Mr. Cyrus is a talented actor/singer/dancer, seeing him as Davy is unthinkible, Davy Crockett is a tough act to follow after Fess Parker, Fess owns Davy Crockett and it happenend in Walt's time not our time...but Walt's time. I can't see anybody as Davy except Fess Parker, sure I bet Billy Bob tried his best too at Crockett but Mr. Parker felt the role...

Mason, you, abused, punctuation, and, predominately, commas.

/I still agree with your point, however.

Got'ta stop typing so fast, curse you speed *laughs* Thanks for agreeing with moi. It really is tough following in Fess Parker's feet.

I'm not suggesting anyone try to out top Fess Parker. I'm a huge fan of Mr. Parker's and he is the definitive screen Crockett, and will forever remain so. Much of the Disney Channel nowadays is dreck, and I don't see how revisiting one of the studio's most popular franchises, and introducing it a fresh to a new generation, with the same morals and family values, can hurt in this age of hip culture. I don't know how a multi-part series would be bad, and Cyrus would be a good pick. Again, I'm not saying it would be suited for the big screen, but for the small screen, may be worth a shot.

Anyone remember when Disney redid Davy Crockett for their anthology show in the 80's? If I remember correctly, they tried to be too realistic with that one, not worrying as much about family values and such. I didn't find it that pleasing, but I really don't remember it well enough to say. They also redid Absent Minded Professor starring Harry Anderson. And, of course, this was when they were making those Parent Trap TV sequels too (the ones with the brunette triplettes).

Anyway, as for Cyrus, he may look the part, but there's one big problem. He can't act! And his daughter is cute, in a weird way, but she can't act either.
