What are YOU waiting for?

Post by Simba3 »

Which Disney Animated Classic, aside from those that we know are coming (Platinum Edition line), are you most hoping will recieve a new Special Edition soon?

I think the only 2 of the ones you list which merit a special edition are Hercules and Hunchback, and I voted Hercules because so far all it's received is a letterboxed non-anamorphic transfer, whereas at least Hunchback had an anamorphic transfer.

Though I really think they are both equally deserving.

Hunchback, easily. I don't understand what went wrong with this. Pocahontas received a 10th Anniversary Edition which ported over all of the laserdisc supplements. Naturally, we all assumed Hunchback would get similar treatment for its 10th anniversary, especially considering the laserdisc supplements are very much like Pocahontas' in style and structure. Somehow Disney missed the boat with this. I'm dying to know what their reasoning is. All they have to actually produce are menus and packaging. The supplements are DONE and ready to be transferred to DVD. What's the hold up? Did Pocahontas not sell well? Considering how little promotion that got, it wouldn't surprise me. That's still no excuse, though. Studios revisit cult films all the time because they know there's a fanbase that deserves a proper release. Let's not forget Hunchback is one of only three CAPS films that aren't directly transferred from the digital source. I'm praying that Disney will come to their senses by the end of the year. They post-poned Aristocats to produce supplements, which is fine by me, so give us something in the meantime that requires little in the way of time and money. This is the only animated classic besides Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros that hasn't gotten a two-disc set despite bonus materials already existing.

I chose Hercules, but really I'm waiting for Beauty and the Beast because I missed the first platinum edition that came out.

But out of those choices, Hercules because I love Alan Menken's music in this. Personal favorite.

I would love to see/get any of those, but I think Hunchback is the most worthy, and that's why I chose it. However, I think the most interesting isn't even on there. Though all the ones listed are probably better films, a 2 disc set on Black Cauldron would be fascinating!

Apart from maybe "Sword in the Stone" (which had a fairly decent GC release, as those DVDs went), I'd buy any of those movies if properly re-released. I voted for "Hercules", if only because it got such a shoddy treatment the first time.

Hunchback! Espescially since the last release was supposed to be 2 disc up until the last minute. They have all the material sitting there waiting as well. Idiots.

Since it's one of my all time favourites - Hunchback without a doubt. Last release was decent, but there would certainly be room for new transfer and even more extras. I'd like to see trailers and some kind of document about actual cathedral of Notre Dame. And of course new making of-document with more of the voice cast and animators like Tony Fucile, James Baxter and Kathy Zielinski.

I'm waiting for Hercules most. I would love 2 Disc treatment for The Sword in the Stone, but I'm not expecting it. A release for Hunchback wouldn't be a bad thing either.

There, there, ichabod.
I agree though. The material is right in-friggin'-front of them yet they wont give it the 2 disc set it deserves. Same goes for Hercules. A film only 10 years old is bound to have piles of BTS footage sitting around somewhere.

Although I'd love to see all these movies get the 2-disc SE treatment, I voted for "Other".

My thoughts exactly. I'm hoping that someday Disney will release a DVD featuring the "lost" footage...and, with such a long production history, they could make an extended making-of feature. TBC has a great DVD, as far as Gold Collection DVDs go, but there's so much more to add.

I voted for others too, kinda hoping Pete's Dragon, Black Calurdon and Ichabod/Mr.Toad get 2 discs, so much could be improved from the gold collection releases, picture wise, mix 'em with some impressive bonus feats. like Jungle Book is reiceving full blown attention. My guess is Pete's Dragon and Ichabod/Mr. Toad will reiceve 2 disc editions since they haven't been released since 1999/2000.

I voted heartily for Hercules. I also think Hunchback merits a 2-disc release. Strictly speaking, I was itching to vote for The Rescuers/The Rescuers Down Under, as they severely need better editions. I own The Rescuers - I bought it last December, but the picture and sound quality are so lacking, that I'd happily double dip, even if just for a better presentation without additional bonus features.

As for my selections in the poll, I just chose some of the films that have not seen an update lately. As it has been stated throughout the UD forum and various threads, both Hercules and Hunchback of Notre Dame are both well deserving of a 2-Disc special edition. They are both fan favorites that I'm sure will see new releases within the next few years. The Sword in the Stone and The Great Mouse Decect are both great Disney films, but would probably only merit a single disc release. Something along the lines of The Fox and the Hound or Robin Hood - just and updated release (with pretty new cover art :D). In my opinion Oliver and Company and The Rescuers are both very strong films that border the fence in terms of a possible new release type. I think both films could be worthy of a 2-Disc release, but I would understand if they only got single disc treatment.

My vote went to "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" but I would really love to see a new release for Oliver and Company. This is one of my favorite Disney films and I feel that it is truly underrated.

Hercules, it's one of my favourite DAC's and I have only owned it on VHS, I would love The Black Cauldron to get 2-Disc treatment though, as well as The Sword in the Stone.

Except for the laserdisc commentary (with James Pentacost, Mike Gabriel, Eric Goldberg, Alan Menken, Stephen Schwartz, Michael Giaimo, and Carl Binder), the two quick "historical" chapters ("The Historical Pocahontas" and "History of the Production of Pocahontas"), six storyboard sequences, the "Prop Designs" chapter, the "Computer-Generated Imagery" chapter, and the introduction and pencil-animation for "If I Never Knew You" as part of the deleted sequences (with commentary by Eric Goldberg & Stephen Schwartz). :P ;) Still, I'm not complaining as Pocahontas is one of my favorite DACs and one of the best DVDs Disney has put out, so a few missing extras isn't too bad (though I wish they kept the storyboards).

I definitely agree with everyone about Hunchback of Notre Dame. It's one the most mature and visually stunning films from Disney and deserves a serious two-disc release.
