The Movies of Summer 2007. What a summer! (with trailers).
Wow! I was just thinking about all of the movies that I want to see, which are coming up this summer. I sat down and came up with the list. I had no idea what a packed summer this is! I am darn near going to have to get a second job, just to support the movies I want to see!
Here is just a partial list of movies coming out this summer. I'll put the films I am interested in, in red. I am also adding trailers, where available.
May 4th:
Spider-Man 3 * I am extremely excited about this one. I love me some Spidey!

May 11th:
28 Weeks Later
http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_atomic/28weekslater/
May 18th:
Shrek the Third * I will probably see this one, although, since the disappointment of the second film, and the lackluster previews of this one, I'm not really looking forward to it. I just hope it's not as bad as the second one.

I plan on watching:
I can't wait to find out what happens to the cast of Pirates. =) I'm also very curious to see how they will do the "sacking Trelawney" scene in Order of the Phoenix. I'll be the only Slytherin crying.MadonnasManOne wrote: Spider-Man 3

Re: The Movies of Summer 2007. What a summer! (with trailer
From MMM1's list:
Spider-Man 3
No, sorry. Not much enthusiasm for this what-so-ever. And this is from a regular "Marvel Zombie" who bought every single Marvel Comic released for about 5 or 6 years. It just appears to crowded - I hear that Jean DeWolf is possibly in the film now!
Why not just go the whole hog and throw Nick Katzenberg; Bambi, Candi & Randi; Liz Allen; Felicia Hardy; Dr Ashley Kafka and Ned Leeds into the mix too? Geez.
28 Weeks Later
No comment. Never saw the 1st.
Shrek the Third
Well, I'm sure this will be enjoyable, but I don't see how it can be the highlight of anyone's cinematic year. Unless they find exageratted accents hilarious.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
One word. No.
Knocked Up
Well, this could be entertaining.
Hostel: Part II
I'm all for horror, but I don't really see why people should choose to watch a film like this. I never saw the 1st and I have no intention of seeing it.
Ocean's 13
I sort of liked 11. Didn't like 12 so much, it was almost as if 12 was a series of in-jokes really, a parody of the 1st in some respects.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Well, I never understood the hatred of the 1st film. It was a pretty good translation in spirit of the comics, if not always 100% accurate (they only redeemed their handling of Doom at the very end). But, I have my concerns about Jessica Alba as Susan Storm - the fact that they are pushing the "hot" Alba even more in the sequel worries me a bit. She's just not Susan Storm of the comics.
Nancy Drew
Pass
DOA: Dead or Alive
This came out ages ago in the UK and I have it on DVD. You can see why its been delayed so long for the US. That said, it's just cheesy fun, and isn't anything other than what you would expect, so it shouldn't disappoint anyone who is interested.
Evan Almighty
Well, I thought Bruce Almighty was a let down. So "no"
Ratatouille
I will agree the recent trailers for this have turned me around. I don't think this will be a standard Pixar buddy flick, so yes, I'm excited.
Live Free or Die Hard
You know, people have strong views on sequels - especially Disney ones. This however to me is much worse and obviously just motivated by money. Bruce Willis is far to old for this sort of thing, and should be making a career out of more character based roles (something he's been doing well with)
Transformers
Yes, this is exciting. But again, they're already talking of the franchise and sequels. I have a feeling nothing will be resolved at the end of this film as they're already planning 2 and 3.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
I think this will be a mixed film. The book had a lot of talking in it. But I expect the climatic final chase and battle to be excellent. As I was reading it I thought how great it would be when filmed.
Hairspray
Without a doubt, this is the film of the year for me.
The Simpsons Movie
I don't expect much from this. Given how bad the TV show is these days, why does everyone think that they can be funny if they had a bigger budget and run length. Does that mean that they're not really trying with the TV series?
The Bourne Ultimatum
No comment. Not seen either of the previous films.
Underdog
I think this looks fun, but again, it doesn't really look "cinematic" enough to be a major hit.
The Invasion
I have no idea what this is.
Halloween
Well, I don't mind reimaginings. But I fear Rob Zombie will go for guts and gore over actual characters. The original Halloween film is still a classic, and there's hardly any blood at all in it.
I think Surf's Up looks interesting. Its about penguins though. Ouch! I bet everyone working on this film groaned loudly when Happy Feet was revealed. (No, I don't think one copied another).
Black Sheep looks like a good old fashioned horror-comedy. The sort of horror I like. Killer sheep - genius.

My thoughts on this Summer's movies
May
Spider-Man 3 - Couldn't care less
28 Weeks Later - 28 Days later stank, one of the daftest horror films I've ever seen. One of the few things going for it was that it was a British film, now the sequel is being filled with Americans no doubt to improve its box office, but I'm sure it will be abysmal.
Shrek the Third - I'm actually quite eager to see this, just to see how much of a contrived piece of crap it is.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - This will probably be the film highlight of the Summer for me (but that's *really* not saying much. I was never really into Black Pearl and the only thing DMC had going for it was it's gorgeous cinematography.
June
Ocean's 13 - How many actors will they need for Ocean's 42 I wonder?
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer - Why?
Nancy Drew - Good God
Ratatouille - Not sure where my feeling lie on this as yet, could go either way in my books. This is the clincher in my opinion. Even the slightest whiff of a mismatch buddy escapade and I will actually give up on Pixar for good!
July
Transformers - [cough]CRAP[/cough]
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - After Warner Brothers completely ruined one of the finest, cleverest, suspenseful books I have even read (Goblet of Fire), they'd better seriously make up for it!
Hairspray - Zac Efron = Crap
The Simpsons Movie - Eager to see how bad/good this is.
August
The Bourne Ultimatum - For God's sake
Underdog - Could surprise us all and be a modest success. The jury's still out as far as I'm concerned.
Anything I've missed I have no opinion on.

Will Most Likely See:
May 4th: Spiderman 3
May 25th: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
June 29th: Ratatouille
July 4th: Transformers
July 13th: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
I Might Go See
May 11th: 28 Weeks Later (I've never seen the first)
May 18th: Shrek the Third (I passionately disliked the 2nd)
May 25th: Bug (Supposed Oscar Contender)
May 25th: Paprika (Probably won't come here, too bad this awesome looking anime will probably only get a very limited release)
June 8th: Surf's Up (Don't know enough about this animated film)
August 10th: Becoming Jane (Oscar caliber?)
August 24th: The Last Legion (I love historical epics, but some are really bad)
All the others I do not know enough about to judge yet, or have no interest whatsoever.
You wouldn't be able to pay me to see that terrible looking Nancy Drew.
(Or Oceans 13 and Fantastic Four 2 for that matter).
After reading some more posts I decided to comment on the films I will avoid. Shrek 3, the second one was a joke, and this third one looks worse than Madagascar, Shark Tale, and Shrek 2 combined, with a topping of Doogal. I can't believe people will actually go see films with no reason to exist.
Nancy Drew. Please this film looks like there was no editing, which it needs. Actually the whole film needs to be cut. The trailer made the film looks dreadful, based on stupid gags and bad acting.
Fantastic Four Two, or Should I say Craptastic Eight. The first film was mediocre at best, and that's being generous. This sequal will prove to be even worse.
First it was March of the Penguins, then Madagascar and the Wild, and then Happy Feet. Now Surf's Up will be the newest film to include talking and probably dancing penguins. Maybe this film should be called, "How Original Are We? You Guess, and You'll Probably say it's the most Original Film of the Summer".
Oceans 13 concludes my bash list. Oceans 12 was the worst film of 2004. The worst film of a year should not get a remake, simple as that.
May 4th: Spiderman 3

Ratatouille (I like Pixar and this may be the best one yet)
July
The Simpsons Movie (I am a big fan of the Simpsons and I will see this)
What I will rent:
Evan Almighty (Bruce Almighty was okay so I may rent this)
Surfs Up (It looks pretty okay for an animated movie)
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (Could be funny considering Adam Sandler's in it)
Knocked Up(Its done by the guy that did the 40 Year-Old Virgin so it may be funny.
Rush Hour 3 (I will rent it seeing how I thought the second one was funny)
What I will avoid:
Transformers (Transformers+Michael Bay=DISASTER!, Plus I have never liked the Transformers much)
Halloween(Halloween+Rob Zombie=DISASTER!!)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix(I do not like Harry Potter much anymore)
May
Spider-Man 3 (I am REALLY looking forward to seeing this)
Shrek the Third (will not be great but still looks funny)
Pirates of the Caribbean At Worlds End (I may be surprised)

Well Justin it looks good but not excellent. Anyways the series has been going downhill since season 11 having only like 10 or so good episodes for each season.

Looks like a good summer for movies.
I will be seeing these in the theater
Spider-man 3
Shrek The Third
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Ratatouille
Live Free or Die Hard (maybe)
The Simpsons Movie
Rush Hour 3
The rest I will probably wait for on DVD. Really excited about Transformers, and Spider-man 3. What I read of the novel for Spider-man 3 online really looks good. Stupid spoilers... Well I knew everything about Revenge of the Sith and still enjoyed it, hopefully the same for Spidey.
