A Christmas Story Director Bob Clark and Son Killed

Post by slave2moonlight »

Tragic news for those of us who are huge fans of "A Christmas Story" (one of my favorite films). According to the Associated Press, Robert Clark, director of films like "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things,""Porky's 1 and 2," "My Summer Story," and "Black Christmas," and best known for the holiday classic, "A Christmas Story," was killed today along with his son, Ariel Hanrath-Clark, in a car crash when hit head on by a drunk driver in the wrong lane. This is very sad news. True, I didn't know the men, but as most people know, I'm a huge fan of the Ralphie films, of which he directed two. He will be missed and remembered for giving us one of the greatest films of all-time, in my opinion.

Awh man.

That completely sucks. My heart goes out to his family/friends and more hard-core fans.

One of my favorite movies of all time. Really sad. Another tragic needless waste.

That is so sad. "A Christmas Story" was genius. I had no idea he did the Porky's movies. I'll have to rent them one of these days in honor of him.
I'm currently watching and reviewing every Disney film in chronological order. You can follow along at my blog, The Disney Films, and also follow me on Twitter.

Anyone who is a fan of "A Christmas Story" and wishes to do something to mark Bob Clark and son's passing, I recommend buying or renting "My Summer Story" if you have not yet seen it. It's a very underrated sequel. The original title was, "It Runs in the Family," but at some point it got a name change to relate more easily to A Christmas Story (a very different film ended up using the "It Runs In the Family" title). Of course, it's not a Christmas film, so it doesn't have the practically guaranteed magic of a Christmas film, but it is still a nice family film and revisit with the Parkers. The cast is different and maybe not quite as fantastic, but still quite good. It's very enjoyable and came to DVD a short time ago. I still need to upgrade from my VHS. Hopefully, I'll do that this year along with upgrading my Christmas Story DVD to the Special Edition. Anyway, I thought I would suggest it as an alternative to the popular Porky's flicks, which never really did much for me.

The Ralphie stories were, of course, written by the late radio humorist Jean Shepherd, who also narrates the films. There are 4 other Ralphie films that were made for PBS. I believe all but one predate "A Christmas Story," but I don't think Bob Clark was involved with any of them. I'm a big fan of them all.

That's terrible! I liked A Christmas Story a lot. May he and his son rest in peace.

He was an excellent director. Porky's the fist is a good movie. One of the original teen comedies. However, whatever you do avoid Rhinestone at any cost.

MORE proof that alcoholic beverages are nothing but pure evil.

A great director dies and the DELIQUENT driver of the car Hector Velazquez-Nava, who was not only drunk(!) but had no license to drive(!!!), is allowed to live? What in the hell is wrong with this world. If there is a hell, I hope that worthless, selfish "human being" goes there and burns for eternity. He deserves it!

"Manslaughter?" Try murder! He should be incarcerated for the rest of his natural life! Why aren't our laws PREVENTING this stuff? Why does it keep happening? How many more victims of alcohol abuse will there have to be before something is done about it?!

Well, if illegal drugs are made legal, it's all only going to get worse, yet tons of people are still pushing for that. :?

Hey, Rhinestone is a classic! Ha, okay, I haven't seen it since I was a kid, but my fam used to love it when it was constantly on HBO when I was small.
