How will "Young Black Stallion" be released on DVD

Post by goofystitch »

I just visited http://www.waltdisneypictures.com and found another Disney Imax film comeing to theaters on April 22nd. It's called "Sacred Planet" and based on the trailor, it seems like an educational film about Earth narated by Robert Redford. I am assuming that this film will be short, around 45 minuites, like "Young Black Stallion." Since YBS is such a short movie, I can't imagine it selling well on DVD. I don't think anyone is willing to pay $ 20 for a 45 minuite film, no matter how good it is. I have seen YBS and liked it, and I am planning on seeing "Sacred Planet." My point is, Disney releasing two short Imax films so close together so that the DVD releases would also be close together makes it seem to me that Disney is thinking about a double feature DVD.

That´s not for sure....
The Company released another IMAX film a while back.
Touchstone´s ESPN Ultimate X - The Movie.
It was also very short (as most of the IMAX films are!) and when they released this on DVD, they had a bunch of extra material they put on it too.
So I think IF we get a DVD relase of this and other IMAX films from Disney (like Ghosts of the Abyss, from last year) it will be with a lot of interesting extra material.

In a UK DVD magazine mid-last year, it was strongly hinted that Ghosts of the Abyss would be licenced out to Paramount/Fox for inclusion on the Titanic SE DVD (due in the first half of 2005).

Perhaps such an agreement was made with Disney and Cameron before shooting on the short started?
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

These films is not sure to be released to DVD by Disney outside of the US.
But I hope they will be released in some way....
