by John Grant. I don't suppose anyone knows if this book is likely to be updated anytime soon?

I actually had a first edition copy which came out in about 1988 I think. Unfortunately it was ruined by water whilst in storage about 5 years ago.

I see that the last updated edition was released in 1998 so I'm hoping for a new version soon as there seems to be precious little of it's kind that is currently readily available. It was a devastatingly beautiful book and brilliantly compiled.

I'd be really grateful if anyone could shed any light on my question.

I have the '98 copy, it's much detailed and enriching on the characters, Mickey-Hercules, I'm also hoping Disney will release an updated copy in a few years. It'd be neat to seeing Stitch, The Robinsons, House Of Mouse, etc. I highly recomend the '98 edition due to the detailed of the chararcter(s) history beyond the films/shorts.

I have the 1993 edtition, which runs through Aladdin. Since they used to update every five years, a new one is certainly overdue, but I'd reccomend grabbing any edition that you might see in a used bookstore. As Mason and cornelius said, it's a great book and a must-have for any Disney fan.

Great book! I think my copy is of an early-/mid-90s edition. I know nothing about a forthcoming update, but since it has already been updated at least a couple of times so far I guess there's reason to expect another one sooner or later...

I had the original '88 edition, and received the '93 edition as well. I foolishly lent the '88 copy out and never saw it again. It's a great book, though, and well overdue for a refresh.

I also own both the '88 release and the '93 release. They definitely need to update.

I'm wondering if Black Cauldron even made it in any of the editions(I don't have any of them) Since many people don't even list them in some books. On of the character books I read which was new and I believe this website was mention on it, didn't even list any of the Black Cauldron characters on there.

Yes, all animated characters from all the shorts and features are included.

Those books are very thorough. I haven't looked at mine in a while, but I'm pretty sure Black Cauldron is in there. They had pretty much every Disney animated character. Mine is the one that goes up to Aladdin. It's on my book shelf, but my TV cart blocks it, where all my great books are... There are some priorities for you, ha. Because I'm a collector, I have stuff everywhere (though I try to arrange it nicely), so moving something (like a TV cart) can cause a domino effect that is a real pain in the patootie.

Anyways, they do need to update it, but it would have to be sooooo huge now, unless they left stuff out, and it wouldn't do to leave stuff out!

One book I greatly regret that I have never gotten (yet) is the old classic, "Disney Animation: The Illusion of Life." Though I have other books on Disney animation. I really need to get that one, but I want a copy that's in mint condition. I wonder if it is in print at all right now.

It is in stock at amazon.com, so I assume it's still in print, and very much worth picking up. It was the first Disney book I bought some 20 years ago and still one of my favorites, along with the encyclopedia.

Thanks. I think the real reason I have never picked it up is that it is always rather pricey (not that I don't have the desire, but I rarely have the means), but I'll see what Amazon has it at.

Have the 98 edition of the Encyclopedia here, signed by John Grant. I had no idea it was until I bought it at a UK convention and opened it up from the plastic covering it had!

I also had the original 88 edition on loan from the local library for like months, just sucking up all the information within. Had to return it eventually

Having a new update would be a great idea, perhaps next year in time for the 10 year since the last?

If anything is missing it's got to be from far more obscure titles than The Black Cauldron!

Both the Encyclopedia and the Illusion of Life are books well worth paying for - highly recommended.

It's currently available used from Amazon here in the UK for £35 which is still good value or an amazing $44 on Amazon.com!

I contributed to the later versions, and as of yet haven't heard of any planned updates. It has been a while since I last exchanged e-mails with the main author but will see if I can track him down.

Wow that's amazing!

I guess there would be a hell of a lot to add to a new version of the book. I hope that wouldn't put the author or publishers off. It is certainly a book worth keeping up to date.

In the meantime I've placed an order with Amazon for the last edition.

I would think a new version would be massive! But it wouldn't do to leave anything out, so I hope they wouldn't. That would be some book to have, if it ran all the way to Rapunzel, Frog Princess, and Enchanted, and included all the PIXAR stuff too!
