main street electrical parade

Post by bradhig »

I was watching videos of it on Youtube it must be a nightmare to keep running. I heard theere were fires do to short circuits is that true? What about the cast members with lights on their costumes did they ever have to take them off in the parade as the result of fires? Also anyone know where I can get the soundtrack?

you can get the soundtrack either from "A Musical History of Disneyland" or a soundtrack that includes both Fantasmic and the parade from the Disneyland resort.

there is also a 5 minute track of the parade on Classic Disney volume 2 (I think)

as for fires I wouldn't know.

Yeah I never heard anything about fires. Maybe a long time ago, but I'm sure they've updated the technology on the floats over the years. There would probably be a very small chance of there being a fire today.

The Main Street Electrical Parade at WDW

Post by Prince Charming 12 »

The Main Street Electrical Parade did return to WDW's Magic Kingdom back in 2000, as part of the Millennium Celebration, for about 18 months. I reviewed my pictures, looking for Princess Aurora, but I did not find any. I did photograph floats featuring Cinderella, Belle and Snow White, but I could have missed her.

I actually started seeing the character, Princess Aurora, appear during Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade in 2003, probably coinciding with the dvd release.

It was nice to see the electrical parade again (back in 2000) and I did pick up the cd at a Downtown Disney store. The shops on Main Street sell a variety of cds and I do remember seeing it there, but it might not be available at WDW today. Ask, if you visit there again.

I remember seeing the Electrical Parade during WDW's 25th anniversary. I saw Merryweather, Flora and Fauna on a float but no Aurora.

^ That was probably SpectroMagic. The Three Faries do not appear in the Electrical Parade, but then again niether does Belle. I thought the one that went to WDW last time were just DL's floats, I didn't know of any additions.

Disney's Electrical Parade CD is still available at Disneyland, I think.

The was a float depicting Maleficent as a dragon in the parades original version from 1972 to 1977 (back when it was basically a dry version of WDW Electrical water pageant). There is a Sleeping Beauty float in Fantallusion and Spectromagic.

You're right. I just remembered it when you said the name. That was a cool parade.

Just off the top of my head:

Fire:

The only fire I ever heard of was at EuroDisneyland when their It's A Small World parade float caught fire backstage & supposedly was totally ruined. I don't know if that's true or not.

Which Parade:

The EDL MSEP was the WDW MSEP that ran in Magic Kingdom from 1977 thru 1991. The MSEP that ran in MK from 1999 thru 2001 was the Disneyland MSEP. When the DL MSEP ran in WDW, MK's nighttime show Spectro Magic went on hiatus but a few of its performers were mixed into the MSEP.

Soundtrack:

If you want the soundtrack I recommend buying the DL Fantasmic CD which has the 1980 version of the MSEP as a b-side. I don't recommend the 50th anniversary CD because most of the MSEP music on that CD is from the Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade which ran in TDL from 1983 thru 1989 (?). So it's not an authentic mix. Neither is the mix on the "Disney's Electrical Parade" CD sold in California Adventure (and it's a shorter recording).

Sleeping Beauty Floats/Characters:

The only Sleeping Beauty float that I know of was the the Maleficent dragon float that was only in the parade when it first debuted in June of 1972. It was quickly replaced by the chinese dragon and after the hiatus of 1975-1976 the chinese dragon was replaced in 1977 by Elliot from Pete's Dragon. I don't recall any characters from the movie riding the float or interacting with it.

goodreel: Walt Disney World featuring Magic Kingdom opened in 1971. The 25th anniversary would have been in 1996. In 1996 Spectro Magic was running in MK and the MSEP was in DL on it's "Farewell Season". Are you sure you're not thinking of WDW's 30th anniversary ? If they celebrated it early it's possible the DL MSEP was running in MK at the time, though I doubt the 3 fairies would be on any of the floats.
