I would prefer that cover over any previous release. Yes, I could guess, and that's what it would be... a guess. Cars was officially announced for June 5 and now they are only saying summer. It appears the date has slipped. I think that the only way the I will replace a regular dvd with a Blu-Ray, would be if the dvd got scratched and unable to play or if it was broken. That would be the perfect time to get a new, upgraded version. But as I only have a standard tv, there wouldn't be that much of a difference, would there ? Of course, I would replace a perfectly good dvd that plays just fine if, and only if, the Blu-Ray had better special features. Such as a really great movie that didn't have a commentary with the dvd version but the Blu-Ray does have it. Then, I'd get the Blu-Ray. But I'll have to wait until Blu-Ray players come down several hundred dollars. I could get a P3, but I'm a Nintendo guy. Have been ever since the NES. I tried Sega for a while, but only had a couple of games for it. Now, if the Wii had Blu-Ray, that would be awesome.
Think about this. Once bread becomes toast, you can't make it back into bread.

Personally I don't think either HD format is worth it on a standard TV. You might see a small increase in picture quality, but it will be pretty hard to see if you see it at all. If your looking to upgrade to Blu-Ray this year, Sony will have the $599 stand alone player this summer so prices should start to come down some. I still think the PS3 is the best bet right now as far as a Blu-Ray player goes, but if your not going to use it for games I'd wait on the stand alone players to drop in price.
Holiday 2007 should be an interesting time for both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.

This disc has an extra surprise, which I haven't seen mentioned anywhere, not even on the UD Blu Ray page! so I guess no press release has this information on (its not even on the back of the box) It's also regions A, B & C, making it region free (which is mentioned on the back of the box).

This is similar to "inifinifilm" DVDs in that you can select a question, but a lot of the questions are available throughout the film. When you select a question, you get a (not-so) brief "Loading" graphic of Chicken Little dancing over the film, and then the audio reply from either Mark Dindal or Randy Fullmer while the movie's soundtrack is faded out. Once a question has been asked, a checkbox appears next to it, just so you know.

Yes, the movie continues to play, only with no sound while the answer is being given. there are other special pop-ups which I suspect lead to branching video clips, but like I say, I've not had time to check these out yet.
Well, the game is very basic. Its not even up to flash games from about 5 years ago technically. It is truely interactive though, rather than just video clips like most normal DVD games are. But, nah, its crap.

I'm really seriously considering getting a PS3 next week. It's really the Blu Ray capability that's the decider for me, and the fact that studio's like Fox and Disney are supporting Blu Ray. Although I suspect they're a long way off, that means films like Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and Star Wars will be on Blu Ray discs.
I've got an LCD HD ready TV, so should be able to experience the enhanced quality.
Seen a package containing any 3 games, an extra wireless controller, a HDMI cable and any 2 Blu Ray movies. Should be coming into some spare money next week, so I'm sorely tempted to get one for Easter.

OK, the ones that pop-up in the top corner are either branches to quick clips or simply audio. The questions you can ask at any time are either audio (the question has the face of the answerer next to it) or branches out to little clips (the question has a movie icon next to it).
You can also run it in "auto" mode, where no user interaction is required.

Anyway, thanks for your always interesting info Netty! Is this something though that you wouldn't be able to program on a regular DVD? It'd be odd if the answer was no as they've completely ignored it in the press release and the case.
it runs smoothly enough. It sometimes have a Loading Icon flashing on the screen, but the movie plays behind without interruption while it does so. If it branches out, it returns to the split-second you branched from, not the start of the chapter. I have a PS3.

I think he actually only got subset of the feature on his Samsung. He doesn't mention the menu of questions which are constantly on screen at the bottom.But even cooler is that there is also the option to experience a digest-like form of the commentary in a Filmmaker Q&A format. Just like the similar format on Buena Vista's previous 'The Guardian,' if you toggle the Q&A on, prompts will appear in intervals asking you if you want to ask a predetermined question. Hit "Yes," and a short video commentary snippet will appear with Dindel and Fullmer. The feature is even better implemented here as well than on 'The Guardian,' which had only worked with the PlayStation 3 and BD-ROM drives. 'Chicken Little's Q&A worked just as well on the Samsung BD-P1000 (with latest firmware upgrade). Let's hope this is a sign that Blu-ray's BD-Java interactivity is finally getting ready for primetime.

I've just got a PS3 this week, and I've pre-ordered the Pirates discs.
I got a bundle which included a choice from 5 Blu Ray films, and I picked Open Season and Kingdom of Heaven. I have to say the picture quality on Blu Ray on a HD ready TV is absolutely fantastic.
The main deciding factor in getting a PS3 was the Blu Ray player, and the fact that Fox (Star Wars) and Disney are supporting Blu Ray.
Although I think it's going to be a long time before we see the Star Wars movies on Blu Ray, and any of the Disney Animated Classics, it would appear that this is the HD format they will appear on. I suspect that Snow White may be the first big BD Animated Classic, once they've actually issued all of them on regular DVD.
Anyone who has Dinosaur on BD in the US - what extra features does it have? Does it retain all the stuff from the 2 Disc Collectors Edition. I've pre-ordered a copy, but I'm curious as to whether I'd be losing anything important by selling my old DVD edition.
It doesn't appear that we can get Chicken Little over in the UK yet. Only a few BD titles are available so far from Disney here, and they're all live action. Wouldn't mind Eight Below - I saw a trailer for that recently and thought it looked quite good.
Currently waiting for Fantastic Four and Casino Royale, which I ordered on the net the other day, and I've got Eragon coming next week.
It's a bit disappointing to see that a lot of BD movies are not porting the extra features over from the DVD's. Particularly from Fox, although having said that, unless the film is an absolute favourite, I rarely even look at special features these days. So when I considered the difference in picture quality on Eragon against a bunch of extra features that I'm unlikely to even watch once, the better picture quality on the BD disc won.
I'd be curious to hear from other people about what BD movies they've seen, and what they recommend.
Looking forward to Superman The Movie and Superman Returns being released soon. I'm also wanting Phantom of the Opera, though I'm not sure if it's out in the UK yet. Play have it as available but out of stock, Amazon have it as pre-order with a release in September. I suspect it's the latter.

The American Chicken Little is regions A, B & C. (you can see the 3 regions on the back of the box here). So in effect it's no region (BD only has 3 regions) and you can import and play it on your PS3, as there are is no PAL or NTSC as such on the HD formats. darth_deetoo Disney UK has released The Wild on Blu Ray, which is not live action (and it does look superb - better than Open Season).
Warners and Paramount Blu Ray releases are all region free (to date) (I guess because they release on HD DVD too, which has no region locking at all). Sadly, all Fox discs in all regions are region locked.
This is a useful site listing known region encodings on BD discs. Sometimes discs are marked with a region on the packaging, but are manufactured region free (I guess this is because it makes duplication cheaper and easier - remember most HD format discs are selling less than 25,000 copies worldwide at the moment).
