New Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor Comedy Club Review

Hello everyone,

I haven't been on here for a long time because I have become very busy. However, I did want to take the time to come on here and share about the new comedy club in Tomorrowland. The attraction utilizes the same technology as Turtle Talk with Crush at The Seas with Nemo and Friends. Several different monsters do short routines that are fully interactive with the audience. Each show is different but the lack of distinctiveness in each routine may stiffle this attaction's repeatability. They are still working on this show so it may be different by the time you get there. Due to the nature of the show, it can actually change significantly on a regular basis. I think the show will really serve as an asset in Tomorrowland. The ride is also very high capacity so you can get on it pretty quick. There is so much to do in Tomorrowland now that you can spend a whole lot of your day there. There are far more attractions in Tomorrowland than any other land.

How was the Comedy Club in terms of humor? I had read about the problems the Imagineers were having with the show and I was wondering how it actually was. I will be there in May and hopefully it will at least still be testing if not fully open by then.

I haven't read a single good review (granted, I haven't read that many reviews about it, period, but a few). Was it funny at all? Is it something you'll want to do again?

I enjoyed it...its very interactive. I was chosen from the audience (even though I didnt raise my hand!!!) to make this embarassing noise and have my "mind read." its a cute ride...I thought it was pretty funny

I think it was very funny. Some of the the parts were funnier than others, but I think different people would just enjoy different parts. It is wacky enough that it ends up entertaining both adults and children at the same time. I think it is quite similar to Turtle Talk with Crush. The humor is quite similar. I think it is something that is funny more than once...and of course the fact is interactive makes it slightly different each time. It will be perfect for people who visit the park about once a year or less. For those of us who are fortunate to be passholders, the repeat value will be less because the routines are essentially the same every time. You can only hear the same joke so many times, ya know? The Imagineers have been working with tweeking this attraction and it might have changed pretty significantly since the original reviews were written. Furthermore, the cast member I talked to at the ride said they still haven't finalized the attraction so it is still subject to some changes. I believe there is someone sitting somewhere who is thinking of everything to say on the spot, so the routines could be changed very easily.

Overall, I am extremely (and that is an understatement) with this new technology). It is nice to have something at Disney I haven't quite figured out yet. It isn't necessarily the best contribution to Tomorrowland (theme-wise) but I think it isn't terrible. It still seems reasonably appropriate.

BTW: Disney figured out the name of the attraction was just too darn long, so they shortened it. They dropped "Comedy Club" so now it is just "Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor." The name still makes sense because the idea is the laugh floor is intended to gather power for the monster city. In other words, it makes just as much sense with the "comedy club" dropped.

I have rattled on long enough about this I think. If anyone has any questions I would be happy to answer. If I try to give too many details, however, I might spoil the ride.

I saw this twice about two weeks ago. I actually really enjoyed it. The dialogue didn't change very much from one viewing to the next, but it's still pretty funny. The timing between the screen and the sound was barely off one time I saw it, but other than that it seems to be running very smoothly. I think it's a good edition to Tomorrowland.

Sorry, but I can't help be the party-pooper. This attraction sucked. It was a total waste of time, and barely funny at all. It may be worth to watch once, so that you can have been to every attraction and ride. I wouldn't suggest this however.

I respectfully disagree. Although I didn't experience it for myself -- the rest of my family enjoyed it very much. My nine-year-old in particular asked many times if we could do it again (which I wish I would have said yes, because I would have been able to go).

Has any1 ridden it recently? They've changed it up a bit..the purple guy (cant remember his name) comes out with a "comedy kit" now instead of doing the whole mind-reading/random joke thing. Its actually a lot funnier than before. I'm assuming the change was because it was getting such poor reviews, but I really enjoyed it before as well.

What happens after EO runs its course later in 2010 is the real prize for WDI however, as the plan is for Captain EO to run for at least six or nine months and then close after the summer of 2010. The Magic Eye Theater would then be gutted and turned into a slightly re-tuned version of the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor attraction already found in Walt Disney World's (WDW) Tomorrowland. WDI has some refinements planned to the interactive elements of the comedy club attraction, and they would like to see it up and running by the time Star Tours II opens for the summer of 2011.

If Iger and his PR group pulls the plug on EO entirely out of fear of a messy public backlash to Michael Jackson, then Honey would likely limp along through 2010 and then be shut down to become Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor. With only a few thousand guests visiting Honey now on its busiest days, far less than the 6,000+ that visit the 46 year old Enchanted Tiki Room on an average Saturday, Honey is a tired old attraction that clearly is past its prime. Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, tweaked a bit to play to Southern California audiences, would at least be an improvement for most Disneyland visitors.

It's a shame they are having second thoughts about EO, and IMO even more of a shame that Disneyland guests are apparently going to be subjected to "Laugh Floor" at some point regardless of what happens with EO. MILF is my least favorite attraction I've ever seen at a Disney theme park. IMO, an empty building would be preferable!

PS. I may be in the minority, but I really enjoy HISTA!
