Wooooow. Not these debates. How about simply saying that the European princesses lived in faraway kingdoms?

Thats what I say lol...Its not like theres anything in the movies that say where they are anyways...Except for Beauty and the Beast...

After all, Miss, this is France
And a dinner here is never second best"

well yeah those too...lets not forget Oliver in Company(New York), Pocahontas(America), Peter Pan(obvioulsey in London) and a bunch of others just to name a few...

But I didnt really include those other movies because...

They don't have Princesses and well since this thread is about the Princesses...besides Aladdin. Esmerelda Princess? Oh waite shes "Princess of the Gypsies" even though thats not really a form of a monarchy...what about Lilo? Princess of Hawaii? I highley doubt she descended from Queen Liliuokalani the last Queen of Hawaii.

Nala wouldnt need to be "grandfathered in," she's Queen of the Pride Lands! Have you not seen the movie? Her and Simba are the lion equivalent of married, so no need to bend rules to get her in. And why wouldn't Meg marry Hercules? Even if it weren't a Disney movie, it's not a stretch.
Actually I have seen the movie. And she is never a princess, she is never a queen. In Lion King 2, she is queen yes, but she is never princess, and besides who cares about stupid cheapquels.

Besides, I now proclaim that Feline is Princess of the Forest, and thus a Disney Princess!

Bianca is an ambassador to the rat kingdoms and might be a princess. What the heck she's a Disney Princess!

Jane is Princess of the Jungle!

Perdita is Princess of the Household!

Lady is the Little Princess!

Wendy is Princess of Neverland!

Urusula is princess of evil domains!

The Goose thing from Chicken Little is Princess of Stupidity

Must I go on? They are all Disney Princesses!

heck, we might as well add all Disney male characters to the princess line.

What about Disney females with titles of lesser nobility, by marriage or otherwise? Since they are heirs to the throne if around 4 or 5 other people die, do they count as princesses?

I've never been to sure about Maid Marion. King Richard (her uncle) is King, but there's no mention of her father or mother from what I remember, but one of her parents would be brother/sister to King Richard which would make them either a Prince/King or Princess/Queen. So assuming that that is correct than Maid Marion would technically be a Princess right? If her father or mother was a Prince/King or Princess/Queen wouldn't the title also go to Marion? There's two things I that Fantasmic said back on Page 4.
OFFICIAL DISNEY PRINCESSES: The main female protagonist of a Disney movie; a Disney Princess is one who shows good personal qualities, can speak to animals, and is human. In some cases, a heroine of virtue and high moral fibre may become an official Disney Princess, even if they lack royal status.
I think thats rather stupid that any female character has to meet these rules or guidelines just to be deemed an "Official" Princess even if they have the status like Eilonwy, Calla or Kida
Noone is saying that they aren't princesses, but rather that they're not OFFICIAL Disney Princesses. And I can't speak for Eilonwy, but Kidakagash wasn't very princess-like, for a couple reasons. Watch the movie, and see if she's the type of person parents want their kids emulating. And no, she doesn't share all of the same qualities; she has no animal sidekick and is seen (if I'm not mistaken) chowing down brutishly on what is quite obviously an animal
Firstly, she's not eating the lobster really, she bit it so that it wouldn't keep attacking Milo like it had when it was first thrown to them. Secondly she does have to eat food to surive. Now moving on, whats wrong with Kida? At first you might say how thin she is, but if you listened to her talking about Atlantis she mentioned how food was short so that explains that, and because she is able to defend herself if she's attacked doesnt make her any less princess like, Jasmine has shown a few combat skills in the Aladdin t.v series and "cheapquels".

So,all in all I think that having those "rules/guidlines" of having to have an animal sidekick, talking to animals etc. is pointless and it reminds me of one of those exclusive clubs where you have to meet other peoples standards of what is considered "normal" or "princess like"

so far the canon princesses are:
Snow White
Cinderella
Aurora
Ariel
Belle
Jasmine
Pocahontas
Mulan
Maddy
sometimes included:
Maid Marian
Nala
Mai, Ting-Ting, and Su
Meg
esmerelda
formaly Tink
because of Kingdom Hearts Alice and Kairi.

so far Rapunzal and Giselle aren't officail princesses but i'm not saying they might not be since they might add them.

as for nationality:
Snow i beleive is German because of brothers Grimm and the fact she is sometimes at the German Pavilion at Epcot
Cindy is probably Dutch since some versions are in the Netherlands
Aurora is obviously English
Ariel is Atlantican and Dutch
Belle is known to be french
Jasmine is arabian
Pocahontas is obviously a Native American or a Pohowton
Mulan Chinese
Maddy is American since it's New Orleans
Maid Marian is english
Nala is african
the princesses of China are obvious
Meg is Greek
Esmerelda is French
Tink is Neverlandish
Alice is English
Kairi is Radiant Gardenish

i'm not going to get into the arguement of who is a princess since they can all be princesses since they all have strong moral lessons.

I've always figured Ariel was Atlantican? Not sure if thats what people from Atlantica are called. The author of Little Mermaid is from Europe, I think....I've always assumed Atlantica is somewhere along the Atlantic Ocean coasts since the names are the same spelling expcept the A at the end of Atlantica, but than again maybe Atlantica is a variation of Atlantis. I've heard stories that the Atlanteans just adapted to the water and became merfolk. So maybe Atlantica is somewhere near Greece?

Whether or not you like the so-called "stupid cheapquels" doesn't change the fact that they're canon.

Giselle is; they've already begun making Disney Princess products for her.
Cindy is probably Dutch since some versions are in the Netherlands
Ariel is Atlantican and Dutch
I believe it's been pointed out that Cinderella is French. And as for Ariel, I believe she just may be Dutch (what with the dike around the seaside castle), which would be awesome -- because I'm dutch! :)

I believe I read somewhere like on Wikipedia (I know not the most realiable source) that Atlantica is Atlantis in French. Any one know if this is true?

I don't think it is...I think it'd be something close to "atlantis" (free translation says "Atlantide", but they've been worng before) and even Atlantic is "atlantique" or something akin to that.

Yes, but at the time Tinkerbell *was* a Disney Princess. Whether it's permanent or not, Giselle is one of the official Disney Princesses, for now at least.
