Great Mouse Detective is also historically significant, as it is the first animated film to ever use the computer, doing so to create Big Ben’s gears
Actually, "The Black Cauldron" was the first to use the computer (Eilonwy's bauble, the cauldron).
Mistake on "The Great Mouse Detective" DVD review.

Well, the last time I read it was a couple of weeks ago. But I'd read it about another 2 times before that. I like reading and re-reading the UD reviews.Mr. Toad wrote:Just out of curiosity how often do you read the Great Mouse Detective review?

Jack Seiley used to also be a moderator and left abruptly in February 2005, though he made a post in May 2005 simply to explain why he left and that he was okay (and not stashed in Just Myself's basement like everyone's led to believe).Julian Carter wrote: It seems the older reviews used to be done by these guys called "Jack Seiley", "Captain Hook" or "Kevin Cedeno". Are they around anymore?
Captain Hook was a regular forum poster as well, though he stopped posting regularly around April/May 2004, but made two short appearances in October and November of that year.
And Kelvin Cedeno is the real world alias of our one and only Disneykid.

Escapay summed the whole thing up, and then some. I used to write reviews for the site back before Disney sent Luke advanced copies. Because of that, Luke had to rely on what he personally owned in his collection. I offered to do the titles I had that he didn't have, and after covering some of the older two-disc sets (I think Tarzan was the last review I did), I retired from reviewing. I wish I could go back and edit some of my reviews, though. My Beauty and the Beast one is awfully vague compared with the other Platinum reviews (I didn't even include running times, something I always scan DVD reviews for first). Plus that review was written before I got an HDTV, so I didn't notice things like compression artifacts that I do now. My Bedknobs and Broomsticks review makes me cringe, too, (it's chock full of grammatical errors, and doesn't view the film objectively enough). Ah, well. Now people know who wrote those cruddy reviews.

If it makes you feel better, Kelvin, when I first read the Bedknobs and Broomsticks review, back in March 2004 (two months after I joined), it prompted me to immediately buy the DVD, just out of nostalgia. Thanks to that purchase, Bedknobs and Broomsticks was one of the catalysts for my renewed interest in Disney which has resulted in my continued dedication to UD these past three years! If not for your review, I'd have probably left UD long ago!Disneykid wrote: My Bedknobs and Broomsticks review makes me cringe, too, (it's chock full of grammatical errors, and doesn't view the film objectively enough). Wow, even if you're exaggerating the review's role in your renewed Disney interest, it makes me feel a lot better, so thanks. ::eyes well up with tears:: I'll be okay...::fans face with hands:: Oh, you didn't by any chance order your copy of the film through this site, did you? I remember Luke telling me that shortly after he posted the review, someone ordered the DVD off Amazon through the site. If that was you, then that's pretty neat and amusing.Escapay wrote:If it makes you feel better, Kelvin, when I first read the Bedknobs and Broomsticks review, back in March 2004 (two months after I joined), it prompted me to immediately buy the DVD, just out of nostalgia. I definitely remember ordering through UD (the link was right there and all, lol), and according to my Amazon history, I ordered the DVD on March 29, 2004, with the Review last updated March 16 (I'm guessing from the old-school pop-up window to a regular html page). So if two weeks counts as shortly after, it might have been me. I vaguely remember talking to the Lukester in chat about it, shortly after I purchased it via UD. There have been few instances where I'd instantly hit "Buy from Amazon" after a UD review, the only other cases for me was The Watcher in the Woods and Something Wicked This Way Comes in September 2004. Since 2005, I've simply bought Disney titles either used or with my CM discount, but I still get Amazon stuff through UD.
Still, many a Disney DVDs in my collection I've bought based on recommendations (or non-recommendations) from UD's reviews. Picked up all four of the August 2005 catalog titles (Johnny Tremain, Toby Tyler, The Boatniks, and The World's Greatest Athlete) at World of Disney and Once Upon a Toy immediately after I read the reviews. And I blindbought The Black Hole after reading the review for it too.
