An HSM Thread by Escapay? (Concert DVD)

Post by Escapay »

Yes, odd as it is, UD's number one Anti-Fan of HSM is starting a thread about HSM. Just to bring to the readers' attention an interesting new DVD in the works.

UD's Front Page reports the following coming to stores June 26, 2007:

Arriving the same day and at the same price ($19.99 SRP) is High School Musical: The Concert - Extreme Access Pass. The 56-minute feature on the nationwide tour will be accompanied by "U Direct" (a feature which lets you call the shots for a concert video), the featurette "High School Musical: On the Road", and a sneak peek at High School Musical 2.

So...why am I writing this?

Because, Disney's releasing a 56-minute feature of a concert, along with a multi-angle featurette for one of the songs, a featurette about going on tour, and a sneak peek at the second film.

On its own.

When all the contents of this disc could have been better suited for the second disc of the "Remix" Edition from last winter.

Which means they should have waited until June this year to release the "Remix" Edition, making it a better double-dip for the fans than what came last November/December. It'd be a much more fulfilling DVD package.

Still, the question remains, why am I discussing this?

Because while I may hate HSM (except for Ryan and Sharpay), I still respect the fans. And they'd still want to know it, especially for some who don't know about the main page.

Very interesting... so it's a documentary on the concert production and not a filming of the concert itself? The documentary sounds neat, but it's pretty lame to not include a filming of the actual show if that's the case.

I wasn't sure of it either. It's simply referred to as "56-minute feature", so it could be a 56-minute version of the concert (which I don't know the full runtime of anyway), or a 56-minute documentary that has specific numbers mixed with interviews and rehearsal footage. Would be interesting if it was a documentary (not that I'd buy it anyway), as any backstage stuff is always fun to watch.

Still, if they were to include an actual concert, which would they use? The first? The last? A mix of all of them?

Pretty soon, we'll see it on the Disney Channel as a TV special, I'm sure. Then it'll be on its own DVD for Christmas, making it the fourth DVD devoted to HSM. Which means I'll have to go off and cry in a corner somewhere.

Wow, they're really milking this HSM cow arn't they? And so many people just keep buying into it

Hopefull this summer I'll be too busy locked away reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, or at a movie theather seeing movies that may actually be worth the film they're printed on to notice anything HSM related.

They must be cutting it down since the concert itself ran about 150 minutes. Too bad it's not the documentary that is 56 minutes.

But if you take out the intermission, Ashley Tisdale's solo from her album and all of the other non-related High School Musical songs I wonder how it would fare.

Concert Songs

"Start of Something New" (Drew Seeley & Vanessa Hudgens)
"Stick to the Status Quo" (High School Musical Cast)
"I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" (Drew Seeley, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel)
"When There Was Me and You" (Vanessa Hudgens)
"Headstrong" (Ashley Tisdale) OUT

"We'll Be Together" (Ashley Tisdale) OUT

"Be Good to Me" (Ashley Tisdale) OUT

"He Said, She Said" (Ashley Tisdale) OUT

"Get'cha Head in the Game" (Drew Seeley, Corbin Bleu)
"Dance With Me" (Drew Seeley)OUT

"Push it to the Limit" (Corbin Bleu)OUT

"Marching" (Corbin Bleu)OUT

"What I've Been Looking For (Reprise)" (Drew Seeley, Vanessa Hudgens)
"What I've Been Looking For" ( Seeley, Hudgens)
"Say OK" (Vanessa Hudgens) OUT
"Let's Dance" (Vanessa "Come Back to Me" (Vanessa Hudgens) OUT
"Bop to the Top" (Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel)
"Breaking Free" (Drew Seeley, Vanessa Hudgens)
"We're All in This Together" (High School Musical Cast)

I should also note that if you add up the running time of the songs on the album which are all used in the concert it's about 30 minutes. So... :?:[/b]

I missed reading it's only 56 minutes on the front page. So, they're taking out the non-HSM songs? I guess the running time makes sense, then. And, I'm glad they are releasing it separately from the Remix Edition- I have the original Encore Edition and wasn't planning on double-dipping. And, Escapay, what is the 4th HSM DVD you speak of? Encore Edition + Remix Edition + Concert = 3...or were you saying that if this is only a documentary then we'll see the actual concert on a DVD later? It's called "High School Musical: The Concert", so they have to have the concert on it. I'm hoping Shycode is right.

The fourth was part of my general b!tching and moaning about the continuous releases of HSM material...speculating that one day we'll probably see a Disney Channel TV Special of the concert, and that'll make its way on to DVD just because it's HSM, thus, being the fourth DVD-related HSM release.

I guess you never thought to read (or even just look at) UD's review.
