ANIMATED SHORTS QUESTION?

Post by megatron1138 »

Hello, I'm new to the forums and had a question. Sorry if this is posted somewhere else. I am trying to collect all of the main Disney character shorts. I have all of the Treasures tins and all of the animated classics. Are there any shorts on the 12 volume best of DVD's that are not on the Treasures sets? I thought there were but could not find an answer on the forums. Basically I need to know if there are any other DVD's I need to buy to get them all. Any help would be great, Thanks

Nice wrap-up there by Escapay on the ones available as bonus features on other DVD's.

The Donald Duck Cartoon Classics DVD contained a few that weren't on the Treasures sets as well. I'm not too familiar with the other ones.

And while in need of an update, smirnoffski's Character Filmographies thread is very useful for what you're asking.

This is a different question, but about animated shorts (I asked it on another forum I'm a member of, but only one person answered, and he really didn't know).

Back in the day, shorts were shown at the movie theater, before the actual movie. Before TV, that must have been the only way to see these shorts. Let's take Short X. Short X is shown in front of Movie X in Year X. Will Short X ever be in front of Movie Y or Movie Z? Or, after Short X is shown in front of Movie X in Year X, will it never be shown on the big screen again? Will that same short return in front of Movie X if Movie X is rereleased?

I'm curious because Disney made so many shorts; TV wasn't around for most of the shorts, so did they work so hard for the shorts for just one small theater run, or did they know that the shorts would be shown countless times throughout the years on the big screen?

Shorts were often reissued with other movies. You can spot a reissue of a Disney short by its title card. The original artwork is usually replaced by just the cartoon's title against a background with some musical notes. Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies reissues had the Blue Ribbon title cards, also without the original artwork.

I've seen no news about upcoming Treasures lately, but I believe the last we got was that there would indeed be more volumes - a few at least. So, if we get another two or three cartoon Treasures, I'd say practically all of the "classic" shorts should be covered in the WDT line.
