The Roster of Princesses is Growing...

Wow, and that's not even including Maddy (because we don't have the final art for her, so I figured I'd wait). I think its funny how the Princess movies made the product line successful, and now the Princess line is going to ensure Enchanted, Rapunzel, and Frog Princess' success.

And Kida! The two unloved princesses...

Is Giselle counting as a Disney princess since it's a mostly live action film and not a DAC? I didn't think she was part of the line...

Before I say what I have to say: I have nothing against Mulan.

I don't think Mulan was actually ever a princess. All General Shang was was the son of another General. So does Mulan really get the title?

if for all her deeds to the kingdom doesnt deem mulan a princess? dont u think she's actually the nation's princess in many ways? and what makes maddy a princess if maybe she's just a mardi gras princess? is that going to be regarded higher than a warrior princess?
do you still wait for me Dream Giver?

Cause no one cares about Eilonwy or Kida!

Im joking I love both of them and they need more recognition.

I still don't consider Mulan or Pocahontas Princesses since they weren't born or married into some type of monarchy. Well I guess Pocahontas "Matoaka" can be considerd the Princess of the Native Powhatan Tribe. Well in that case...what about Princess TigerLily? Lol im joking since she's not even a co-star in Peter Pan.

The roster is growing..its kind of sad seeing Ariel, Belle and Jasmine starting to go with the older Princesses...cause it just shows that Im getting older...yay.

Rapunzel is going to look weird next to all of those other 2-d Princesses.

I don't consider Giselle apart of the Princess line since her movie isnt fully animated...All though her animated form fits in nicely.

Giselle is almost certainly included in the Disney Princess line, and I have proof. The dolls in her likeness are labeled with the Disney Princess logo. They could easily just have the drawn version of her next to the other drawn princesses. That seems to be what they're using in merchandise:

I like the Princess Collection, but it's confusing. There is a line of dolls in the Princess Collection similar to Barbie dolls. They're at the Disney Store. They have the "regular" princesses, plus the "sometimes" princesses (Pocahontas [I'm pretty sure they have a Pocahontas doll] and Mulan), and they also have dolls of Tinker Bell and Esmeralda. Surely they could include Eilonwy and Kida. If Tink and Esmeralda are included, why not add Wendy or Meg?

And, my husband and I were just discussing this- he says that Pocahontas isn't a princess. I say that she's the equivolent of a princess- her dad is the CHIEF (like King Triton is a KING). And, Nala went from a "regular" girl to a queen, but it seems like she should be included. And Princess Kiara.

Oh, and they should have a Disney Prince line. Sure, more girls would probably buy the merchandise than the boys...I have the whole collection of baby princess plushes (Snow White, Cinderella, Tinker Bell, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Mulan) and it'd be cute if they're male counterparts had dolls, too- that'd be so cute!

Meg has never been considered a Disney Princess, but her line of dolls had the 'Princess' logo slapped on it. So I guess Disney just picks and chooses who they use. Only a select few get to remain in the core Princess line, as their movies were extremely successful, and they are in actual fact real Princesses.

I'm not too sure, but i'm pretty sure I've seen an Alice Doll in a princess doll line before as well.

I think the whole point of the disney princess line is that anyone can be a princess. I don't think it's a literal thing. Disney tends to not take a lot of things literally (ex. the term "classic").

Personally, I have no problem considering all of the big female leads princesses. In some way or another they can be argued to be a princess of some kind.

Pocahontas - Indian Princess
Mulan - Warrior Princess
Alice - Nothing says if she's royal or not
Meg - Marries a god
Jane - Marries the king of the jungle
Tink - who knows where she came from, well until her movies come out...
Maddy - falls in love with the prince of england
Esmerelda - Princess of the gypsies

What about the princesses from Mulan II? They have no merchandise other than their movie, but they're still the actual princesses of Mulan's kingdom!

Ting-Ting comes very close to being my favorite Disney character EVER.

Meg from Hercules is a princess. She is the daughter King Creon. The thing is, it is never mentioned in the film (wich heavily twisted the source material anyway).

Still she's more a princess than Mulan.

Anyway, she's not very popular, like say Snow White. She's not even the fairest of them all.

she's the sluttiest of them all. :P

I made that banner of official princesses only. We know Giselle and Maddy will be, and I'm absolutely positive that Rapunzel will be, too (adding a character to the princess line almost guarantees the film's moderate success). They don't include animal princesses, because it wouldnt make sense for Nala to be interacting with the princesses (especially Jasmine -- she has Raja!). Tinkerbell was originally a Princess for whatever reason, but no longer is. Pocahontas was the Chief's daughter when she was in America, and was labelled "Princess Pocahontas" upon reaching Britain (in both the sequel and real life). Mulan is in there to show that good qualities like heroism aren't of lesser value than royalty.

If they didn't mention it in the film or tv series, that means that in the Disney canon she wasn't -- until she got with Herc, that is! She's on one of the princess DVDs or CDs or something, but not in the official line (for more information on who is or isn't an official princess, search "Disney Princess" on Wikipedia).

Ancient Greece had more than one person named Megara, though.

Yes but the "real" Hercules got married with a Megara who was indeed a princess. I know you guys don't like Wikipedia, but here's a source anyway! ;)

Yes, but Disney's Megara wasn't a princess is the point of the story. She may have become one if she married Herc, but that remains to be seen.

Wow, the definition of "slut" sure has become blurred. I think it's rediculous that people care if Jasmine's dressed as thought it's a million degrees outside, because, well, it is in Agrabah. And growing up watching her in Aladdin didn't corrupt me or anyone else I know.
