Mature Readers Only- Homo Classifications
Mature Readers Only- Homo Classifications
Hi everyone, this thread is only for mature readers, or readers that won't get offended by homosexual conversation or content. Basically this thread is asking and talking about what homosexuals can be classified as. I want a list of all the categories gays can be put into, like fairies or butches etc. This can be answers by gays, bis or anyone, I'd just like to be educated on all the terminology. Please don't lock this thread, we won't talk about rude stuff, just about this. Please, answer back, anyone who knows. I don't want to search google, cause there'll be all this porn and pop-ups that'll come up. Any replys?

I agree....xxhplinkxx wrote:This is a disaster in the making.
You could check this out and decide for yourself what you would want to refer to a homosexual as. I for one, have no problem with gays or lesbians and other than passing along the link, am done with this conversation.

1) I am not sure if you are just plain dumb or trying to taunt some people into an argument. Either way its pretty low and inappropriate for just about any messageboard let alone this one.
2) Those are not classification they are slurs.

I hope what I have to say doesn't offend anybody. xxhplinkxx, there really are only a few socially acceptable terms. "homosexuals," "gay," "bi," and "lesbian." And those four words are really the only classification anybody needs. Outside of that, you will sometimes hear people joking around with a gay couple asking "who is the b**** and who is the butch?" But beyond that, pretty much any term would be offensive if coming from a straight person. For example, if you are straight and you were to go up to a gay guy and say "hey fairie," things would not end well for you.
That being said, I don't see the big deal. I know a few gay and lesbian people and their sexual preference doesn't define them. Thay are really cool people. Why exactly do you want to know all of these terms?

That's because remarks like this encourage it.xxhplinkxx wrote:This is a disaster in the making.
Homosexual, is the politically and scientifically correct term to use. To use any other term would be offensive to homosexuals except for the word gay or lesbian. For example calling a homosexual a faggot is just as offensive as calling an African American a nigger.
You can not categorized homosexuals; they are what they are because they choose to be. They're not born with it and it's not a birth defect; they choose to be that way. Same way with bisexuals and heterosexuals you can not categorize them either. I will say this however and I know I'll get my head bit off for saying this but we are mammals and just like any other mammal on this planet we reproduce sexually. To not be attracted to or mate with the opposite sex is unnatural but it certainly is not a crime. That's just my opinion and I really think that society has really influenced their choice to become a homosexual.

As for what you say about mammals, have you ever seen two male dogs humping eachother? It doesn't mean that it has anything to do with homosexuality, but animals mate and most animals don't really care what they mate with as long as it is their species.

Perhaps this is the very disaster xxhplinkxx was talking about... I'm just curious in what world people are capable of choosing who they are attracted to? In what world would millions of people decide "Hey, I want to be outcasted from society"? Society has become more tolerant of homosexuality in the media. Maybe it has caused people to be less fearful of coming out. It has absolutely nothing to do with encouragement. I really don't understand how people can still think homosexuality is a choice. It's just plain ignorant. Open your eyes. Do you choose what girl you are attracted to? No. You either are or you aren't. A lesbian doesn't sit there and say "instead of looking at Brad Pitt, I'm going to look at Angelina Jolie." It is not a conscious decision. In fact there is even sceintific data that essentially proves that homosexuality is not a choice. Are you aware that the hypothalimus in many gay males is smaller like a woman's than a straight males? The hypothalimus controls all natural bodily functions, including the sexual aspects. And in polls, 99% of homosexuals claim it isn't a choice. Open your eyes. You can not categorized homosexuals; they are what they are because they choose to be. Well I guess this is going to stay. I am not sure calling a gay person faggot is quite as bad as calling an African American nigger. I have both friends who are both gay and black. To be honest many of my gay friends have no problem being called faggot as long as it is not meant in a spiteful way. In fact many of them call each other that.
However, I would not dare call any of my black friends nigger.
A lot of it may be due to Canada's more relaxed attitudes towards gays and the fact they really dont have to worry about much discrimination. They are pretty free to live life out of the closet in both professional and personal lives here.
And on one other note - thank God for bisexual women.

most of my guy friends are gay and i asked them and they said, "Im gay, and that's it! call me a homo, a fairie, a gaywad, I don't care. I'm gay and I'm proud." just goes to show that more straight people are offended by gay slurs than the gay community themselves. kinda like the black vs african american debate. usually a black person will say that they are black. terms like the N word or faggot really shouldn't be used, but other than that, gay, homosexual, as long as it's not offensive all the gay people i know are open to it.

I don't think they're slurs. It's words gay people legitimately use. I use them fairly frequently, and it's not me desperately trying to classify everyone around me, it's just helps to establish otherwise unclear aspects. I don't think the OP is trying to "pigeon hole" anyone, but I'm not clear on his motives.
Regardless, I'm just curious why you (James) are doing this. Not to be devil's advocate, just wondering. I'd like to help, but I'm still not clear what you want.

Yes, they are on wikipedia and from my 25 year memory from my last high school biology class they look correct.
Well I am not entirely sure which one I am but certainly not Homo habilis

I really can't understand the need to label everyone.
I will say this, however. I can tell you, without a shadow of a doubt, that homosexuals do NOT wake up, one day, and decide that they will be gay/lesbian. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. You either are, or you are not. There's no decision to be made. The problem is that so many homosexuals feel the need to hide it, because they are afraid of the reaction of family, friends, co-workers, and society in general. Which is why you have homosexuals who marry those of the opposite sex, and have families. They are trying to conform to what society expects of them, and live in denial of who they are. This tends to end in disaster. However, just because there are homosexuals who try to change, then finally realize that they can't, doesn't mean that they've decided to be gay/lesbian. They have finally stopped trying to deny who they are.

Okay. First of all, I was serious. I meant nicknames, like, "oh is she a lipstick?", or "he's such a bear". I'm not trying to encourage offensive behaviour, and I definitely don't want offensive comments to e posted here, but I think that the people who have automatically dissed this thread, argument and topic of conversation, should just grow the fuck up. I actually started this thread because I knew that there'd be some intelligent debate, maybe among some of this forums gay, bi and people, but not rudeness directed at me just for asking a simple, and serious fucking question. I was not just opening this thread just for a disaster to be made, or to stir people up. I am gay, a young gay, and am not too knowledgable about the terms used around gays. As I am about the enter the gay scene in a year or too, I'd like to know about these terms, or nicknames. And for the record, a ton of you people are too politically correct. You can call me a fairy, I'll call you a fag, it doesn't matter, gay people use these terms, and it doesn't bother them, because they, rather WE are very open people and don't mind these terms. Loosen up a bit, geez. And I'm not trying to label everyone, I'm just trying to work out the correct terminology used among gays. I know that homosexuals are people, everyone is unique, blah blah blah, fuck, you all just keep saying the same things all the time with these threads, lets not label people, lets stop this, but the fact is that people do, on the singles scene at least, label people that way. And I for one would like to be right with the names, unlike you people who musn't go out and stay home all day reading forum messages. Anyone who actually wants to intelligently discuss the question at hand, for those who don't, goodbye and good riddance.
Please don't ban me.
