platinum editions

Post by Disney_Fanatic91 »

I don't know as much as most of you probably do because i just started collecting myself. So i was wondering, Are the PEs that were released awhile ago such as Beauty and the Beast going to be re-released as PEs because most of those old releases i've been trying to find do not have slipcovers as well as the Cinderella PE i bought. So i want to know if i'll be able to catch them again before they come up with a new line??
It would be greatly appreciated information from those of you who know.

Thank you.

Nobody knows. SW&TSD and B&TB are due for new DVD releases soon. Whether or not they will be released again under the platinum line remains to be seen. They will not be exactly the same as the original release though, so tracking the original releases down is something I reccomend doing. It took me less than a year (not using the internet) to get them all, but I wasn't looking for copies with slipcovers so it was easier.

Personally I don't see another PE release for them happening, but a lot of members here think other wise.

I to dont see them being released as platniums again... Personaly I would Love to see a "Diamond Series" or Something starting this year as Snow White Celebrates 70 Years (A Milestone I cant see Disney Really Missing) - 70th Anniversary Edition - Just has A Ring to It...

I think Disney is saving the "Diamond Edition's" for the next format. Though I too am hoping for another series like (and hopefully better than) the Platinum Line. Hopefully one with more titles.

I too can't see Disney not celebrating Snow White's 70th Anniversary. I'm really hoping for a 3 to 4 disc set (similar to Narnia's; only better) this December. It would be awesome if they could release it 70 years to the day but I doubt that would happen. If it happens I really want the set to include a documentary chronicling Disney feature animation with a segmet regarding every one of the DAC's. I doubt this will happen either, but I can dream can't I?

I really just don't want to see a "70th Anniversary Platinum Edition", which if SW gets another PE next year as many are speculating, you can pretty much garuntee will be it's title.

A 70th Anniversary Edition to SW would rule. I can't see them not doing anything for the movie on it's 70th Anniversary. A 3 or 4 disc set would be great.

Well, thank you all very much for your input. The only reason i wanted them in slipcovers is because all of the new releases are in slipcovers and i thought it would look more collectori-ish (since im just starting) if i had them all in slipcovers but i guess just having them is what counts for me and i could always hide the slipcovers away in safe keeping if i don't want them to look out of place. :]

I probably will end up tracking them all down on amazon or something like that. Would you mind telling me, Widdi, how you managed to track them down without using the internet?? Such as where you found them?

You should PM Escapay and ask him for his extra slipcovers. :D He just throws them away, anyway. :o

I usually find the older Platinums at the local new/used hole-in-the-wall CD/DVD store. I saw a Snow White Platinum there the other week, but they wanted $50 for it. If you find one, be prepared to crack open your wallet a little.

To me, 75th Anniversary has more of a ring to it! Don't you think? I doubt Disney will wait 5 more years to release it though.

I was just going to say that...70 is huge, but personally I'd hold out for 75 instead.

I'm like you dude I NEED Slipcovers on my Disney DVD Platinum Editions, it just gives an added layer to the prestige of the DVDs, even if it truly is a stupid cardboard sleeve.

I hope Snow White comes out again with an all new Disney Enhanced Theatre Mix - ...and as a really deep guilty pleasure a slip case...

Pawn Shops mostly. I found Snow White at a Value Village store for $4.99. Snow White doesn't have a slipcover by the way, so don't bother trying to find a copy that does.

Which ones are you looking for? I have Bambi, Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp and The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan Slipcovers. If you need any of those let me know and I'll gladly send them to you. They'd be of more use to you on your DVD's than to me sitting in the cabinent part of my enterainment center.

My Cinderella and The Lion King PEs don't have slipcovers, but it doesn't bother me. I got Cinderella for $6 on Black Friday and The Lion King was out of print when I found it. Both were new, just no slipcover.

I think at one time you could actually get slipcovers from Disney. I know there was a number to call that was posted in this forum at one time. I don't know if they still offer this service.

Also if you don't mind used DVDs, try looking at some EBGames and Gamestops. They usually have good prices on used Disney titles. I found my copy of Snow White there for $16.99. It looked new, and had all the inserts, etc... No scratches on the discs either, so I was pretty happy with that find. Of course your mileage may vary on this.

I really think that everyone should stop with this. Al, I think, doesn't want to be involved with everything about slipcovers. Sure he said it, but it doesn't need to be said every other day with fifty other people using it there after. Just tone it down a bit, he's going through a lot.

Bambi's isn't in the best shape (doesn't close anymore), but Cinderella and Lady and the Tramp are in pretty good shape. PM me and we'll sort the whole thing out.
