Peter Pan: Platinum Edition DVD Press Release and Discussion

We should start flooding Disney with phone calls DEMANDING the Christmas Show appear on Return to Neverland or we may never see it.
Can the 9 old men featurette fit on 101 Dalmaions, Jungle Book, or Pinocchio? I don't think they all worked on those films though, did they? Maybe Pinocchio would be the best bet. Just a thought. Let's start writing those letters now!

I was watching the trailers yesterday...I'm so excited about "The Aristocats" and "The Jungle Book"! But I have a question- On my DVD, the "Return to Never Land" trailer had a weird glow to it...is it like that on anyone else's DVD? All the other trailers that I watched looked fine.
And, do you think they'll put the Christmas Show on RtNL? I didn't double-dip on L&tTII, and I wasn't planning on it on the re-release of RtNL, but I might have to if they put substantial bonus features on it.

Thanx for clearing a lot of things up lol.goofystitch wrote:Did anybody else by the 3-disc set at Wal Mart? I thought the third disc would have more to do with Peter Pan than the Disney Fairies line. Out of the "80 minutes" of things to do on the DVD, only 3 of them had anything to do with Peter Pan. One was a treasure hunt game, which was ported over from the 2002 Special Edition. Then there was a storybook called "Neverland's New Hero" which was taken from the "Return to Neverland" DVD. And the third thing was a 2.5 minute making of the T-Squad music video, which lets you know that (surprise surprise) 3/4 members feel they are better at dancing than singing. The rest of the DVD? It's all about the fairies. In fact, even the menues involve the fairies, not Peter Pan. There are 4 stories, not read alongs but semi-animated tales spanning about 5 minutes each. Each one concentrates on a different fairy and uses artwork similar to that seen in the book that is available. You can watch about a minutes worth of information about each fairy, where they live, and what they like to do. This feature reads almost like a dating service hotline, but for fairies. There is a quiz to find out which fairy you are most like. One bonus feature in particular made me mad: a picture of a Tinker Bell doll informing you that the huge line of Disney Fairies merchandise is now readily available on store shelves. The funny thing is that it didn't specifically mention Wal Mart, even though the stores name appears all over the case letting you know that it is exclusive. I paid $19.99 for the 3-disc version. I think they were charging $16.99 for the 2-disc. It's really annoying. The Wal Mart 3rd disc for "Cars" had featurettes and stuff. Disney really should have made a store exclusive 3rd disc with at least the missing 9 0ld Men featurette, if not also with the Christmas show. So basically, if you were considdering buying the 3-disc set at Wal Mart, don't unless you are a.) very excited about the Disney Fairies and can't wait for the Tinker Bell movie, or b.) are buying it you a kid between 3-10 who has an interest in Disney Fairies. Otherwise, this 3rd disc is useless.
P.S: The story about Tinker Bell introduces a male fairy, something Disney has avoided showing in all previews for the film and merchendise.
I am still however, happy with my purchase. Peter Pan is on my top 10 favorites so that is really the reason why I bought the 3 Disc set, other than that I would have passed. I still like the 3rd disc no matter what. I love the making of video features as well.
Even though it was as short as the video lol.
T-Squad is an ok group, nothing to go crazy over. I would have rather seen another Disney Circle Of Stars do the video for it.
That would have been cooler!

I bought my copy at Target last night, and I have to say the picture was nicely restored. I have not watched any of my features on disc two yet, but I was upset that they did not include any trailers.
I looked at the upcoming platinums and I am happy that they will be releasing 101 Dalmatians next year. I will also pick up The Jungle Book when it comes out.

Can anyone take a picture of the discs? I know Disney is still using the translucent artwork to deter piracy (but at least it's not clear like the one for The Little Mermaid), but I want to get a good look at the disc artwork before I buy the DVD. I'll be getting it, because the 2002 DVD came out when I was still a VHS supporter and I didn't get a DVD player until late 2002 - early 2003.

To those who say the Platinum is one of the worst yet, I disagree 100%. To me the best thing about the Platinum editions, is the over the top beautiful restoration with the extras coming in second. The picture was STUNNING - my god I have a 1080p HD TV and wow - Pan looked like a classic movie, but the clairty and crispness was so great. Truly one of the treasures in the series.
For me the WORST is without a doubt The Little Mermaid...Lowry didn't do this one and you can tell, it's so murky and fuzzy on my TV and the surround sound doesn't sound quite as good as Pan, King, Aladdin ect. I LOVE the Little Mermaid and when I saw how fuzzy and distorted the picture was I was a tad disheartened...

Yeah that Disc Art Definitly blows both Cinderella's and The Little Mermaid's Disc art out of the water.
Anyways I just watched all of Peter Pan Platinum edition...It is one of the weaker platinums...But I liked it anyways. My favorite features are the story of TinkerBell and The Peter Pan that almost was.
I started to watch the Second Star to the Right T-Squad music video and clicked my menu button like 20 seconds later. I did like There never was a never land by Paige O'Hara. That was actually worth watching plus I really like Paige O'Hara.
The making of Peter Pan was kind of a let down...Because I already watched that like a million times on the old VHS I used to have. Its a satisfactory making of.
The Gallerys were great.
I give The Movie in general and the Restoration/Remastered sound an A+. I give the Platinum Edition status as a whole a B. Coulda done more. But its a good one which will enter my DVD player again and again.

I just saw the TV spot for Peter Pan in the UK, and they have dubbed over the voices! It sounds strange, but the new voice actors fit in really well though. But Peter himslef is dubbed in some parts and not others, and I think John and Hook remain the same. Very strange though!
And in fact, the trailer is on the UK site for Peter Pan:
